most infections are caused by viral, bacterial, or fungal. Small flesh colored bumps can also mean HPV theres many strains for HPV, STD + warts. Small bumps on your forehead can be viral HPV, probably infection when you were younger playing, viral HPV never goes away, but you can build immunity to it, but will always be contagious. Flat warts can be found on your forehead, arms, etc. almost anywhere. Theres no cure for it, but theres constant treatment like saly. acid, or freeze them from a dermatologist. I mean if anti-fungal cream or antibacterial dont work, its probably a virus. my 2 cents in.

Gosh, I just ordered a bottle of Nizoral Shampoo and used it on my face, and guess what? Apparently, I'm allergic to that stuff and my face is now entirely swollen and red and itchy. I normally have tough skin, I don't even react strongly towards Dan's BP. So I was thinking maybe I've actually used too much of the shapoo. Basically, I squeezed out about two dollar coins worth of the stuff, worked it into a lather and then smeared it on my face like I would do with cleansers.

Yes, probably too much. SO anyone trying to use Nizoral Shampoo, don't use too much. Don't feel good. =(

its all.

Okay...I have tried just about all this. I have been diagnosed with Pitysporum folliculitis but not a whole lot is working. I've had it for years, thinking it was simply acne when I wasn't treating it properly the entire time. I have tried using antidandruff shampoos like Nizoral and Selsun Blue. I have used prescriptions from my dermatologist and even had oral medication for it. It seems like the only thing that worked was Accutane but my derm won't put me back on it. I'm thinking about quitting my birth control pills because I read that it actually triggers folliculitis. What else can I do? I don't even put on moisturizer because I read that it also triggers it. But what if my face is dry? It's cold! :( Someone help!

personally, I am throwing everything at this but the kitchen sink:

low-dose Accutane (I'm on a super-low maintenance dose for now)

Finacea (just started, hoping it'll keep the redness down on my cheeks where the bumps come up)

a slew of anti-fungal supplements from BioActive Nutrients

low-carb diet

wash with Head & Shoulders

topicals: Vivant mandelic acid, Vivant Spin Trap

I don't get many of these bumps, but the ones I do get are on my face and hard to hide ... they tend to pop up right along my cheekbones and cause redness there. I also get a few colorless ones on my forehead and jaw.

I think the antifungals are helping, but I'm just starting my 3rd week ....

hmm ive got something similar like you...

yh they r smal and flesh colour (seem to be whitheads i think too). a small cluster on the right side of my face, not too far up from my chin and another on the left. they r not rlly itchy, but on occasion.

(as well as this i also have some bacne, which ive been taking pills for)

is it worth going to a derm for soemthing to clear this up?

I dunno about the tea tree oil. I've been using it for weeks now and i feel as if it's made more clusters for me. I might try the Nizoral Shampoo. But the site says to only use it 2-3 times a week. Can you use it everyday.

I really need to look into this at every angle, because i have been starting to do the "no washing regimen". Just splashing with water.

hey,the symptoms kind of match mines, but i am not at all sure if it is fungus that i have or acne.

it would be really helpful for us if you could find a picture (on the net i guess) where the red spots look like fungus symptoms..thanks in advance

In general, I don't like BP, it can cause early signs of aging, dries out skin, and is not the best product when dealing with sensitive skin. To get rid of small, irritating bumps, try Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA). That's what I use and it seems to work pretty well and I have sensitive skin too. Well, I hope that answers your question! =3

I have sensitive skin and the bp is the only thing that works. BHAs burn like fire for me and DRIES me out to no end. My skin actually looks and feels younger - so why misinform people by saying it makes them look older? I have fewer lines on my face and my skin looks a lot better by the way. BP can be drying but nowhere near as bad as BHAs. My skin turned bright red and peeled on my chin and cheeks. Talk about painful recovery.

BP has never done that to me and I use the 2.5%. Please keep in mind that while people may have similar skin types that their skin may react differently from what you recommend. Always do a small test spot FIRST.

My forehead is COVERED in small bumps. I think it's folliculitus but I just don't know...

Can these develop from playing sports and sweating while wearing a tight fitted hat on? 'Cause I think that's why I got these. They're driving me crazy and I think they've spread around the rest of my face. :[

Someone help me, I'll post a picture tomorrow if someone would like to help judge. :/

Things that are working for me:

-- Vivant mandelic cleanser

-- Psoriasin gel (active ingredient is coal tar ... you find it in some medicated shampoos, but this gel formulation is much easier on my skin)

-- DermaDoctor Born to be Mild cleanser (active ingredient is zinc pyrithione)

-- Head & Shoulders (zinc pyrithione again)

-- Low-carb, low-sugar diet

With the cleansers and the gel, the trick is to rotate among the various treatments. After a few weeks, the fungus starts resisting treatment and you have to hit it with something else.

Head & Shoulders is too harsh for my face, but shampooing with it once a week or so definitely helps to keep the bumps away from my hairline.

Anti-fungal supplements didn't seem to help me at all. They're expensive and you have to take them several times a day ........ too high-maintenance for me!

From every pore around my mouth and nose there is pinhead sebum (1-2mm) coming out, literally. I also have some whiteheads in the same area. I was following a regimen consisting of retin a alternating with glycolic acid cream for 8 months, and skinoren for the last 4months when I decided to stop every toppical I was using, because every pore on my face was still containing some sebum (verry little) I couldn't get rid of, and it was very noticeable when I wore foundation. Along with these clogged pores I would still get some whiteheads/pustules once a week. I have to mention that a few years ago I started using Skinoren gel and got the same pinhead sebum as I have now when I basically use only a mild cleanser (Jhonson's head to toe baby wash) and a light moisturizer with hyaluronic acid, non-comedogenic. Those pinhead things disappeared when I stopped using Skinoren GEL; but I didn't experienced them when I was also using the retin a/ glycolic and Skinoren CREAM. My question is could these pinhead sebum coming out of every pore be Pityrosporum Folliculitis?

Ummm.....i don't know if this thread is still going but I think after reading all the posts I might have folliculious (sp?) what sucks is someone asked me if i might have this..on here...and i was like certain i didn't but now that most of acne is cleared i still have these tiny bumps around my eyes and temple regions that are not inflammed but above the skin, when i try to extract them is normally clear or white pus (gross i know) but retinA or AHA hasn't helped...damn it i guess i gotta go back to the derm..

Let me start off by saying wow this thread is amazing. Everybody here is in the same boat and really trying to help everybody else. I am in my late 20's and had some acne problems in high school that retinal a and erythromicin gel (maybe that's what they were called, 10 yrs ago. :) ) cleared up okay. Never had a lot of problems after that. But as long as I can remember (5-8 years back :) ) I've had the bumps on my forehead that don't go away for nothing and definately aren't acne. I can relate to JOEY T :comfort: because I always felt too, that my hats were somehow related. I stopped wearing hats a few years ago (ALWAYS wore hats after graduating high school). This fungus theory only makes sense because fungi like yeast infections come about because of tight clothes, sweat that is not dried and cleaned off, etc. Perhaps this is how I got it (not a yeast infection ;) ). Anywho I say this to say I am going to try some selson shampoo, tea tree oil, and perhaps some ketoconazole topically. I will let you know how it turns out.

JOEY T, have you found anything that works for you?

Special Thanks  to:
