Hello,
After lurking in here for a few days. I decided to share my situation with you guys, hoping I could get some help.
I am a 32 year old male, I've had acne since I was 13, my skin has cleared up about 2 or 3 years ago. I still get the occasional pimple but nothing dramatic.
It left some nasty scars on both my cheeks and my chin. Luckily nothing on my nose, forehead or temples.
I've been able to make peace with the scars, but seeing my face under direct lighting often reminds me of the harsh reality.
I have done some research online and found out about the different types of acne scars, I think I have 3 types of atrophic scars (ice pick, boxcar and rolling). Maybe you guys can tell me if I'm correct or not.
I've also found out about the treatments available. The idea of doing TCA CROSS and subcision+filler started to grow in me. I think this combination might give good results. Maybe doing a laser later might help too. I don't really have unrealistic expectations, honestly I'd be happy with a 60 to 70% improvement.
What do you think would be the best course of action to treat these scars based on the picture ?
You definitely have several types of issues. Atrophy (volume loss) and sharper type icepicks or boxcars. Some people would say gamble on TCA cross for some but I'm really not a fan of it as I saw it widen/deepen in person + read poor stories. I would definitely look into subcision (and/or filler) for the atrophic spots. I would ponder or look into any sort of punch excision if some spots are too deep to rectify. A phenol type of treatment might also be worth looking into (like Dr. Rullan).
Basically, there's a combination of stuff that might be applicable, but those are just some of the top things you should get some advice with. I definitely think it can be improved quite a bit but it requires a experienced doctor and making sure you're only sold things that are educated risks like the above.
I think your plan of CROSS plus subcision plus maybe a little filler and all of that maybe followed by laser sounds totally sound.
Just make sure you get a good person and trust them and see lots of before and afters and stuff. Trust your gut.
If you click on the links in "Where to get it" section of this page you can get some advice and links on how to find someone good.
1. Healthy skin grafts for deep acne scars
2.Surgical dermabrasion with tungsten bur handled manually, so that the pressure of the same can be varied
I suggest you look for a plastic surgeon who has the ability to perform this method
