Hi, I rarely post much on these boards these days.
I saw Dr. Chu some 3-4 years ago on three different occasions. I saw him privately and he gave me subcision, TCA cross and dermaroller on my first visit to him and he did exactly the same on the other two times I went to see him.
I travelled from Eastern Scotland to see him so maybe that was why he treated me on my first visit. He's quite considerate and I found that he went out of his way to help me.

Ha! I am getting the same procedures done in one session in august. I also travel and I really hope that I won't be very swollen and bruised on my return flight on the forth day.I hope the Arnika helps in that matter.
Do you mind me asking how it turned out for you? I see it's been 3- 4 years since you underwent the procedures... Were you satisfied with the results? Any tipps?

Hi marumi.
If you get subcision, dermaroller and TCA cross then you can expect swollen, red cheeks and scabs/crusts that last between 4-8 days. I travelled home on the same days that I had treatment but I couldn't care less, I wore a baseball cap and and kept my head down and just got on with it.
You won't look as bad by day 4 but you'll still have the 'hamster cheeks' appearance that subcision gives with all the swelling and your skin will still be quite red. You'll have some scabs from the TCA cross too.
With regards to any improvements I got with Dr Chu, I did see small improvements but as these procedures require more than a few sessions, I was prepared for that. Since seeing Dr Chu I've had other procedures performed by a plastic surgeon including dermabrasion (manual), fat transfer (x2) and punch excisions. My skin has improved quite a lot since I first started out some 6 years ago.
You'll need some patience and don't expect miracles after one round of treatment. You'll have days when you think that your skin hasn't improved at all but things do get better, try to think positive.
Thanks for the reply Dazarooni!!
I am glad you have achieved good improvement with your skin so far. It gives hope to many of us.
I am well aware that I wouldn't get the wow effect after the procedures. After having done Erbium laser (big mistake) and dermarolling 5x with moderate results of maybe 20-25% improvement I don't set my hopes too high.
But Dr Chu streched out my scars and most of them dissappeared, which means rolling scars. Hope they respond well to the subcision. Age is on my side too. He said he would do one session and then see if multiple sessions would be necessary. The difficult part would be finding the time to have them done, as you say that it can take up to 8 days to recover.
Subcision is a good treatment for rolling scars, it's definitely one of the best.
I found that I was presentable by day 7 but I just think it depends on how aggressive Dr. Chu is with the dermaroller and TCA Cross treatments.
A good camouflage concealer helps such as Dermablend.
I've seen Dr Chu 3 times- very nice guy, very pleasant, gave me TCA Cross, dermaroller and Subcision each time and the price I was charged was a fraction of what it would have cost elsewhere.
Subcision did help with some of my rolling scars. However I did get a thin linear scar as he was a little careless with the needle but this cleared over time.
i just done TCA with dr chu and after it was done i saw white frosting of course, but when i got home an hour later i dont see any frosting or scabs? is this how its suppose to be? its look like nothing has been done to my pitted scars such as boxcars and icepicks!
my scars look the same as if nothing had been done to them.......
im oriental if that helps (chinese), i dont see anything, it look like nothing been done, when do the scabs form and what colour is it? im a little worried i paid for consultation and tca cross for no reason!
Hi acne201111, with TCA Cross it takes a few days for scabs to form, the scabs are brownish normally, I think it just depends really.
Right now you have nothing to worry about, just wait 2-3 days and you should notice some scabs.

thats good to hear sdazarooni thanks for not having me worried, i would like to see scabs on my face so i know its done correctly! always good to hear from you my man!
can i have a shower and wash my face in it? or can i only rinse my face lightly every day
Hi acne201111, I'm oriental too and Dr Chu said that TCA is very effective for oriental skin because it was originally tested on Korean skin, and seeing as im only 25 this should increase my chances of good results.
Did you only have TCA cross or did he do dermaroller aswel? Also how much was the treatment?
He offered to do the treatment for my on during my consultation but because i had work the next day, i had to arrange it for a different day (4th Aug).
he said i had boxcar scars and rolling scars, but those rolling can be done with dermaroller but i had a few active acne around the forehead so he subscribed me with some cream to control and get rid of it for my next visit,
he did TCA on me of course as i said and it cost a whooping A182
how much did will/or your cost?
i asked the lady at the payment counter how much will the next one cost and she said it will be A117 because its only treatment. more expensive first time around because of consultation.
you could still go to work with TCA CROSS although u will see quite a few brown bits on where he fills in the scars in but i dont see any scabs yet......... as for dermaroller it was a good idea you delayed it as your face could bruise up going to work lol
Hello!
I am writing from Sweden. thank you for sharing your experiences, it is difficult to know what really works, so this really helps.
I've done four emtarix manipulations to facilitate rolling scars without any results, and now I have decided to do either Subcision or punch excision.
I wonder how you got through the dr.chu? do you have any mail or similar?
thanks

Once the scabs form I'd cease all contact with the face in the off chance that you knock some scabs off too early.
Dr. Chu told me I didn't have to use anything, just let the scabs form and fall off by themselves.

You were lucky, you actually got TCA cross for FREE, cos i was charged £182 for the consultation alone. When i went to pay for my consultation the lady showed me the prices and from i remember the TCA was only £97, but i could be wrong. Dr chu told me that if i chose to do dermaroller along with TCA he would throw in the TCA for free, but overall all it would still cost a whopping £250. the payment lady actually told me it would cost more cos of the EMLA cream they would be using at £5 per tub.
Dr chu didnt notice my rolling scars until i mentioned it so im gona give the dermaroller a miss with him but do plan on doing it myself at home.
I asked him to rate my scars on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the worst, and he said that my scars were 2 . Im very pleased with that and i also believe him cos this is a guy who wants my money but at the same time telling me my scars are mild
EMLA cream is a numbing cream that has local anaesthetic.
If you have dermaroller with Dr. Chu but no subcision, you'll get EMLA cream.
If you have dermaroller and subcision you'll get a local anaesthetic injected into your cheeks and no EMLA cream.
You don't need anything for TCA cross only.

Interesting. Despite that I am having done all in one session rolling, tca cross and subcision I am getting only the Emla cream, not the local anaesthetic. Maybe I should call their office.
What I wanted to ask you Dazarooni is if you had any issues with any kind of lumps after the subcision-temporary or permanent. There is no doubt in my mind about the skills of Dr. Chu, but still I am a bit apprehensive about these possible lumps.
