What does this mean? 70%?! Residual?! Huh?!

serious question
My theory is that hyperpigmentation starts to become more apparent once we start moving our faces due to blood rush.

"Hi! Yes I forgot to reply! Sorry! Thats fine. I have 70% TCA so I will use that for any residual scars then we can do a full face with 30% after if you want.We can do it when I see you next no probs.Catherine."What does this mean? 70%?! Residual?! Huh?!
She probably means 70% for tca cross on any ice pick and the 30% full face peel.but she dosnt want to be doung tca cross and peel in 1 sitting.at these trengths it requires a month inbetween for healing.
@Quadboyi dont believe i have any ice pick scarring? And if i do its not my concern whatsoever.
do you think I'd be ok going in for a full face of 30% or should I ask for 25% to begin with? In your experiences, how long have you had to wait to be able to leave the house (and in my case, wear makeup)?
Makeup wont work on a 25% peel as your skin is shedding,it peel quite literaly (see my thread on tca peel?) you will have at least to wait minimum of 5 days but realisticly its more like 7 days process.
if you had tca peel before and healed fine then 25% sounds good,at least you are effecting the skin and if lucky you might get a mild stimulation of collagen.it will do your previous subscion work some good as your face will swell and stimulate collagen to a certain degree.
realy you should look at doing this yourself as you will more likely need plenty of them.
I think either 25% or 30% are fine, as you will be doing it with a doctor. If you were doing it alone, I would say 25% I think it is good that you are trying out the TCA peels with a doctor first. If you choose to do more yourself at home later, you will be educated on how it should look and what to expect so there are no scares. Quadboy is sooooo brave!
Most guides say to keep the area clean with some kind of antibacterial or burn cream for the first few days, then move onto an emollient like aquaphor or vaseline for a few more days, then a good moisturizer following. Always wear sunscreen too! @91baby
I agree with Petsme. That's what I've seen in most recommendations too - keep it moist. You may also want to sleep with your head elevated and ice your face (not directly touching skin) to help with swelling. I'd suggest using an old, but clean pillowcase because ointment, Aquafor, and Vaseline are messy and stain. Your doctor should give you after-care instructions, but here's an after-care guide from Johns Hopkins that looks helpful.

Sleeping as much as possible will make it heal faster. I can 95% peel in 4-5 days with TCA 35% if I sleep 12 hours a day. You must drink lots of water and eat right. I try to get plenty of protien and vitamin C. You must keep your skin moist. if you leave it dry it will crack and bleed from eating, yawning and even smiling. Leaving it dry can make it rip off too soon and will cause you to scab over or repeal. i tried it dry and it took 2 weeks to heal with just TCA 25%. Get in and out of hot showers as quickly as possible. DO NOT run the water over your face. Water dehydrates you. I take a benadryl to help with how badly you will itch. You will most likely need to take this and a sleep aid bc the itching and aquaphor on your face will make sleeping very uncomfy. I take half a wal-som from walgreens. YOU MUST SLEEP and YOU MUST STAY HEAVILY MOISTURIZED. Do not peel any skin off yourself. DO NOT!!!
Thanks so much everyone! I bought vaseline and i have a moisturiser but im worried it might break me out. Can anyone recommend a really good moisturiser thats sold in aus?
im going to do it myself tonight ive decided.. when my doc mentioned 70% tca (im assuming for cross) it kind of freaked me out as i don't have ice pick scarring?! So im thinking maybe i should just save my money and give it a go. My only problem is that i have 30% strength and i have no idea how to dilute to 25% haha, if anyone can help me with this that would be great??
also, any tips on how to keep busy while im waiting to be able to leave the house again? Binging on facebook is so bad for me and my mindset right now so im going to want to steer clear of social media and i dont really have any good books.. and theres only so much tv i can watch haha!
@Petsme thanks for your help im psyching myself out reading horror stories about tca peels ARGH.. maybe its best to do this one at 18% then jump to 25%. Could you please help me with this ratio?? Sorry to be a pain im so bad with maths and dont want to burn myself! Haha
Oh and when you say drops.. i dont know how to make it a drop? The vial doesnt have a dropper thingo.. could you possibly tell me the ratio using a teaspoon? thanks so much!
Hello for 18% the ratio would be 1 : .67. i realize that is a really awkward ratio, so sizing up it would be the same thing as doing 6 teaspoons of TCA to 4 teaspoons of water would give you whole numbers
if that's too much, just calculate the new amount by multiplying the water (.67) by how many teaspoons of tca youre doing. It won't give a whole number but you can kinda eye it @91baby
Thanks @Petsme i appreciate that! I will probably end up doing more like a 20% but i will let everyone know. I know not to expect anything but you've gotta start somewhere, right? Heres some pics to show different angles of my face before i peel. I wont update day by day as there's probably no need to with a 20% but as time goes on and i peel more and more i will be updating pics

My skin is super sensitive and most moisturizers break me out. I was nervous about using vaseline, but it didn't break me out. I've also had good success with La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume. I think you can get it in Australia.
@motherofmsthanks! Are you saying vaseline is an ok moisturiser for the whole peeling process? So use antibacterial cream for the first 2 days and then just move on to vaseline? And then just back to sunscreen and moisturiser as per normal? I use la roche-posay liquid sunscreen, but it would be good to find a sunscreen that is also a moisturiser so i don't have to apply 2 different things as it makes my skin sticky!
@91baby I'm sorry. I don't know. I was just mentioning that vaseline doesn't break me out. I've also had good experiences with most La Roche-Posay products. I hope someone else will be able to help you with when to use what after your treatment.
Your skin is looking really good!
Do you have Biafine emulsion in Australia? I use this throughout the healing process during my peels and it works well. It isnt as thick and greasy as Aquaphor but still does a good job of moisturizing the skin. I also apply it after my skin has finished peeling and it is very soothing on my sensitized, freshly-peeled skin.
Thanks @UpliftingCat i ended up getting bepantham which is what my doc uses on me after subcision.
just did the peel, id say from my ratio it was probably a 20%. Definitely stung a little more but nothing unbearable. Only did cheeks. None of the scarred skin frosted but a nom scarred section did slightly! Annoying.. i didn't expect any frosting at all but if there was going to be any i would have hoped for it to be on scarred skin. Oh well! Im slathered in bepantham and off to bed
You should be applying tca in layers, apply and leave for few mins to neutralise then apply again and repeat each step till you achieve a frost and resly you should hurt, not just sting,it should be painfull for around a min till it neutralises.what you did will not do much,it is more likely a superficial peel which might cause reddening that will tone your skin like makeup but not a great deal more.
you might have taken the leap of faith to get you going but if you want to achieve anything strong you must go,pain you must feel and frosting is part of the process.
watch all the vids and read up and see the pics.where change was required, results were needed the tca was strong and the skin frosts!
i did a 3 layer spot peel on 1 scar as a test and i estimate the strength i used was around 40%+,no kidding,it was 100% which is more likely 80%-90% and i just diluted to 50%,it hurt, not too bad as it was a small area but it frosted and i did 3 layers.the skin now is 2 days and it is scabbing, not just light brown but darkish, the skin was red raw and sore looking within an hour of applying,it still is but its healing now so i see how it gos at day 5.
but this is what is needed,we dont want to damage ourselves but we want to treat our conditions and improve our skin and to do this we got to go strong and wake our skin up and get it motivated!
but you achieved your first peel? Congrats all the same, now look after skin and peel and heal!
