i dont know about AVC i have tried it before and it gave me little bumps on some red scars and aroudn the face (or atleast i think it did) and it didnt really help with the red marks

.. but i will try the baking soda ... emm it is ok to just do the baking soda part? and skip the AVC? but then woudlnt the skin be unbalanced?

and i will also try the egg mask cant wait biggrin.gif

thx

and also i have read that ppl break out because they dont use an acne cream? i dont either... so will i break out? :\

Can this regime fade the brown marks? Coz most of my red marks have turned into brown marks. And I have tried this regime for 5 days, but I don't see any improvement on my brown marks. cry.gif

Please advise.

Can ACV be applied to the back to fade the spots? Have anyone tried it and what's the result?

Gene Genie I'm very happy that you're seeing good results with my own take on the baking soda / ACV / egg-lemon mask as included in my own program.

Please note that I've actually modified the egg-lemon mask method in my program: I've changed it from just the egg white to the whole egg, for the following reason.

Egg whites are very rich in the protein albumin which has an incredible pore-tightening effect. Everyone wants minimized pores, but the downside to constant use of the mask is that many of those who use it consistently clear temporarily but then experience even more severe acne than before, sometimes cystic. This would appear to be a result of the mask tightening the pores while sebum production remains at the same high, acnegenic level as before. So with time the mask risks triggering an even more severe breakout. There was a thread here a while ago about people freaking out about the egg mask for exactly that reason.

The way to get around it is the way I have modified it in my program. Simply use the whole egg, yolk included. You are diluting the white with the yolk so you do not get quite as much of the pore-tightening effect, but it still DOES tighten your pores AND what's more the yolk is rich in carotenoids and vitamin A which are also VERY good for your skin.

So please make a note of this change to the egg-lemon mask in my program. Alternatively, you could alternate nights with the white-lemon versus the whole egg-lemon, but this is untested and could still result in the negative effects seen by many previous users of the white-lemon method on this board. To be safe while still manintaining the powerful effect, I've changed it to the whole egg. This seems to be VERY good still as the yolk also has benefits as part of a mask. The fresh-squeezed lemon juice is of course still included.

The pH of the skin's surface, rather than neutral, is actually in the range of 4.5-6.5, with an average pH of 5.5, and is therefore slightly acidic. The topmost layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum, has what is called an acid mantle, and overwashing, especially with soap, imbalances the acid mantle and overdries the skin, potentially triggering breakouts. This is why moisturizing is important after showering, to keep the skin moisturized while the acid mantle naturally reforms in the hours after washing. The basic baking soda exfoliant that is then rinsed off followed by the acidic ACV then rinsed off may or may not counterbalance for a slightly acidic vs neutral overall pH effect on the skin, but what matters is that after using both the skin is rinsed and then moisturized with a good non-comedogenic moisturizer, preferably one with all-natural ingredients and based on either aloe vera, emu oil or jojoba oil. Doing this enables the baking soda to gently exfoliate while mildly dissolving dirt, grease and flaking off dead surface skin cells, the ACV to gently but effectively dissolve sebum impactions within pores and dead surface skin cells, and after rinsing off and then moisturizing, you let the baking soda and ACV both do their thing without overly disrupting the acid mantle because the moisturizer lets the acid mantle naturally reform in its own time.

I hope you continue to see great results Gene Genie! I occasionally make changes to parts of the program when I hear back from people about what does or doesn't work or what's just too confusing!

Thank you so much Gene Genie (I'm a serious Bowie fan myself). Acting and writing are really my thing-- I only got into nutrition and dermatology out of interest in my own skin's health and then health in general. Now it's kind of weird because I have friends coming to me with their problems before and sometimes even instead of going to a dermatologist-- even though I tell them to at least talk to a dermatologist first, not to be brushed off with a useless antibiotic prescription mind you but to really have a TALK and force the dermatologist to do a REAL assessment and help them understand what's going on and what they can do. Unfortunately the vast majority of dermatologists are absolutely terrible at doing anything other than just making the patient uncomfortable, self-conscious, and they just throw a futile and often counterproductive antibiotic at them for a few months of clearing and then worse breakouts then before. It's a profession that could do so much..,. but its practictioners in actuality often do more harm than good. Some things I suggest really help, but I also believe that some people really do need to take serious measures in some cases, and that this sometimes needs to take the form of either anti-androgens or Accutane. My interest is more a hobby really, but it's great to know my ideas and methods make some practical sense for other people as well. Thank you for giving my program a try and I wish you the best of continued success. eusa_angel.gif

I just recently started using the baking soda mixed with my cleanser in the morning and evening and then applying ACV and leaving it on, applying BP and moisturizer. Do you really have to rinse it off after 10 minutes before going on to the next steps? What's the dif? BTW I have really oily skin and dryness is usually not a problem for me. thanks!

Hi all! I came across this fabulous site today and read this thread in one ago, and woah, I'm definitely intrigued! I had very bad breakout (coupled with hyper sensitive skin due to medicine prescribed by doc) two months ago which left me with angry red marks, especially on my nose (which I'm told is hard to heal sad.gif ). The acne problem was solved with very expensive visits to Leonard Drake and using Dermalogica. And while I'm very pleased with Dermalogica products, they are expensive, and none of the products I'm using now actually address the problem of red marks. So upon stumbling onto this thread about dirt-cheap beauty regime, I went out immediately to get some baking soda and hopped on the bandwagon.

I can't say I've spotted any results yet as I've only tried the BS and lime+water minutes ago (will try the egg mask tomorrow morning so that I can have the rest for breakfast biggrin.gif), but I'll try to update you guys about it. So far, I've to say that the baking soda hasn't given me any problem (and note I've very sensitive skin!). It's nice to use, gentle, and my skin felt thoroughly cleansed. Lime+water (I modified it, 'cos I don't think I can stand the smell of ACV) also feels all right on my sensitive skin. So for those of you who've experienced redness or unpleasant stinging effects from initial use of BS or ACV, I suspect your skin must be really sensitive or have been highly sensitised by your current skincare regime. In that case, it may be better to build up the skin tolerance first by using gentle products specifically for sensitve skin (with gentle moves on the skin too!) before embarking on this one. It may take some time for sensitised skin to stablise (mine took about 2 months), but the patience will pay off. I don't think it's advisable to hop on this regime - however effective it may be - when your skin is not ready for it.

Thanks for the info jit76. I will definitely stop using the BS and ACV twice a day and start washing the ACV off after 10 min or so.

is it okay to use the whole egg for the mask including the yolk. antony's thread on his regimen calls for the whole egg and not just the white.

Good god. For those of you (like me) who were just using Baking Soda and ACV without the egg... STOP.

Use that damn egg!

I used the BS + ACV for a while, and saw very minimal results. I stopped after two weeks, and now almost a month later, I decided to revitalize this, only using egg this time...

Mother of pearl, 5 days later, my shallow red-marks are almost GONE, my very light scars are filled-in and my face is baby-ass smooth. It's amazing. USE THAT EGG.

Did I mention the egg feels really funky and cool when it dries?

Someone (who sounded like they knew their stuff) posted earlier saying that the yolks could break you out. I've never been brave enough to use the yolk as well as the white, if fact if any yolk gets into my mixture, I through it away and start another one.
