Hi, while I was checking for more details on the collagen growth cycle as DMJ reminded me, I came across Sarah's post on the hairs on scar.
"Scar tissue has no or very limited metabolic activity (no blood supply etc).
Miconeedling restores or partially restores the metabolic activity in the scar. It triggers re-vascularisation (new blood vessels) and as soon as there is a blood supply, the scar starts to behave more like "normal" skin and there is a big chance it will improve in appearance."
Do you notice any growth of tiny hair on your scars after some time?
I was quite concerned about blood supply underneath the scars but quite happy to know that dermaroll can build new blood capillaries beneath the scars and thus will improve the skin.
Since I've been dermarolling, my skin has never looked or felt better. Don't know about the hair re-growth though. I'm female and facial hair isn't something I'm too keen on!
Hi DJM,
How did you decide on Edelstein (in T.O.), what were your comparisons? Would you mind telling me who your medical aesthetician is? I live in the area and have been researching on few places, but haven't decided which ones to go for consultation. There aren't many online reviews to help :S
Are you doing maintenance at home with the 0.2mm genuine derma roller during the breaks? I got the home kit today from a clinic, my feeling is that I would like to warm my skin to the experience of micro needling before going in for the treatment that MAY be aggressive for my sensitive skin.
Thanks for sharing your journey, it's super inspiring!

So sorry it's taken me so long to reply! Not sure how I missed this.
I do the .2mm maintenance treatments at home too. I find that I get way fewer pimples because of it. I think it's because it is basically exfoliating the skin. This size of needle doesn't help with scars much.
I've been giving a lot of thought to my latest update. In the past week I've had a bit of a change of heart on my dermarolling treatments and I think I'm not as pleased with the results as I thought I was.
Had my 4th dermaroller treatment. On my newest scar, I think I've had about a 30-40% improvement (but I wonder if I'm being generous). On my older boxcar scars, I've seen no change. I think they are too tethered for the dermaroller to have any impact. My skin does feel good and it looks good (i.e. clear) and I've enjoyed the treatments but I have to be honest, I'm disappointed that my scars aren't better. Maybe my expectations were too high? I will continue to update this thread. I'm also scheduled for subcision + filler in the new year and will start a new thread to document that experience. Thanks everyone!
I haven't read all of the replies here, sorry! Doing a run-by-reply to let people know I'm still around. Glad that this thread is still going too!
I am 1 year and 5 months out from my first Dermastamp treatment and I can tell you all right now that it does get better, the hard work does pay off, the money is worth it! You just have to go all in and not give up, I can't stress this enough. There will be days when you are feeling ugly, days when you are feeling awesome and then eventually the roller coaster eases. My life has changed so much in the last year that I hardly recognise my past self. I was a shell of a person and now I am more outgoing, have moved into my first home, am in a serious relationship (also a first for me), can bring myself to look in a mirror under all sorts of lighting... sometimes you need to step back and judge your progress in other ways than just how your skin looks.
I always thought that I had to find that one special treatment that would cure it all but what I've really found is that my personal courage is the biggest tool under my belt. So to everyone who is going through Dermastamp and eDermastamp treatments all I can say is hang in there, be strong, listen to your esthetician and don't be afraid to ask questions!
I'm not done with my skin, and I'm sure there are other treatments that can yield more results on top of my skin needling (which I'm currently researching). But, if I can do this, so can you. xxx
Quirky fox, im glad you are back. wow you get 70% improvements after 5 derma roll sessions? i'm very impressed. As for me, I kinda made a mistake but not entirely sure if its a mistake. After my 3rd derma roll session, i did a Obagi blue peel (medium peel). Well, my face is now very even tone which is very good as I'm a fair skin type. However, I'm still unsure why my forehead has all open pores. This reminded me of the past retin-A dryness and causing pores to enlarge issue. I'm very despair but hopefully the pores will close in once they are hydrated again.
As for the 3rd derma roll session... how should i put it... My scars are still there... but something is changing.... you might have asked me what... but i couldn't give you an answer straight. The skin is tightened which obviously scars look better. Ah- ha, i know what's the answer. My depressed scars are still there but somehow my face is becoming "fuller" each time after the session (after swelling past, around 1 week after actual roll). Something is growing from within. There are certain depressed scars, they are starting to combine into one. Not one big scar but like a fluffy piece of skin thats something is trying to grow from bottom.
I'm scheduled for my 4th session soon. I will give the doctor excuses to stretch the derma roll into 5 weeks between sessions. She likes to do it every 3-4 weeks.
What I'm not happy now is my pores. Quick history - my skin was super dehydrated from 6 months of retina-A application in hope to grow collagen from beneath. Open pores, bad texture, super mummified dryness, lines were created due to retin-A. Then i went through 3 derma rolls, 2 rf sublative (the doctor wants me to do these too), and 1 obagi blue peel. Before the last obagi peel, skin was hydrated, pores seem to be minimised, lines seem to be minimised, bad texture gone. It was good feeling that improvements seem to be coming here and then.
But after the peel, which already has been 2 weeks now, things are a bit disoriented..... the bad things are pores enlarged on forehead, a bit of bad texture has returned but seem to be under control if hydrated nicely. the good things are..., lines created from retina-A are gone, tone is very uniform, scars are not that red anymore. a healthy look ... but i am worried about the open pores again...
So it's been about 4 weeks since by 4th treatment. I was feeling down on the whole dermaroller thing in my last post but I have to say, now that I'm not paying as much attention to my right cheek (my energy is focused on my left cheek..has subcision + filler for tethered scars last Mon), I think I see more improvement. I would say I'm at about 50% since I started. This is really in the scar I am most focused on which is fairly new (< 1yr). I have mildly atrophic picking scars too but they haven't really budged. I think I'll just have to find a better way to apply make up for those ones. Or do I dare explore the world of lasers? Not sure....

fresh start i have done alot of research into the dermaroller topicals are important everyday make sure you are using a good vitiman c i would be happy to recommend you the one i use most of the ones in the market are crap because they become inactive also look into leds there was a guy here a few years ago that used leds with his dermaroller and he believed it made a big difference compared to not using it good luck
Well, i only have isolated scars though plus im just a student so i got no money to keep doing this treatments.
No choice for people like me
Can't i just buy a good dermastamp?
If they offered us home use lasers would you consider them to be the same? I doubt it.
Home treatments are not the way to go. Ever. The Dermaroller (genuine) has been studied in depth as to how big the barrel should be, how long the needles should be, how many needles are required (a precise 192), how long to wait between sessions, the rolling technique and the after-care products.
All home rollers are cheap copies that will never give you the same results as a genuine Dermaroller treatment. Even the genuine Dermaroller's home roller is not intended for scarring but for product penetration and nothing else.
You need numbing cream so that you're not in pain, the right length needle (1.5mm for scarring), the genuine Dermaroller and a technician who has been trained to use it. It might be your face, but you're not the one with the knowledge to know how much pressure to put behind the roller.
My esthetician has shown me photos of some of the skin she has treated where people have tried to use home rollers... one in particular was very scary and involved a Staph infection. Even if you think the roller, your face and area is sterile, it may not be. If it sounds like I am trying to scare you off home treatments, then you are correct. I shudder when I hear of people treating themselves.
Yes, it's sad that it costs so much but if I were in your position I would save up and get proper treatments rather than waste my hard earned money on home treatments that will likely do nothing. But, I am not you so in the end the decision to treat yourself is up to you. Just be wise about your choices!
quirky fox please give us a update have you looked into leds as well whilist using your dermaroller
Hello! Update you say? Well, I'm happy to report that my skin is getting better and better each month. It's slow yes, but I'm seeing results. The biggest thing is that I'm no longer obsessing over my skin. I think that's the biggest indicator of how far I've come. I'm in a serious relationship now (something I honestly thought would never happen given how low my self esteem used to be) and am more social and outgoing. I no longer view myself as ugly (still not perfect but who really wants that?) and I'm less stressed/anxious.
As for my skin, my scars are still improving. I've been having Dermastamp treatments for the past 6 months and plan to have another soon as well as 3 maintenance treatments per year from now on.
No, I've not tried LED's with my treatment. I guess in my case I didn't consider it as I've been seeing incredible results with skin needling.
Hoping everything is going well with others on the board. I haven't been around much due to the fact that I'M LIVING MY LIFE NOW!
hi quirky glad you are happy at last it gives me hope. I Just had my first genuine dermaroller treatment last week i hope i also get amazing results as well. Would you consider maybe posting before and after pics it would help so many people here in the future i am sure. Also what are your thoughts on chemical peels in between treatment like glycolic lactic jesseners etc. I would really honestly look into a led as well quirky lmaar on this post swears by them just a thought. All the best
The pressure is strong I had numbing cream on seek to get the genuine dermaroller done byva proffesional theres no way in hell would I have been able to do this treatment on my skin remember topicalls as well eat healthy etc good luck
Quirky I cant quote you but did you use anny special topicals after ? And will the dermaroller help with my hyperpigmentation ?
Hi all, I realise I'm late to the game in this thread but I had dermarolling done for 4 sessions (with a few derma stamps for deep pits) by a professional (who was a sever acne sufferer himself) and to be honest I didn't see any improvement whatsoever and at £150 a pop I couldn't justify continuing it really. I bought my own (From same person) and continued to use it for a year every 2 months but I just can't see any benefit at all.
The theory seems sound but I guess my skin just doesn't respond to it and looking sunburnt for a few days after is embarrassing.
I think it does plump up the skin but only temporarily.

whereabouts did you get your dermarolling done and what type of scars do you have
I have icepick pitting on both cheeks. My right side is worse than my left side partially die to some sagging caused by steroid cream. Pretty horrible looking when exposed to lighting form above or below. I went to a beauty specialist that is a friend of the family and he had suffered from severe pitting as well and recommended the derma roller.
I bought one myself and used it properly for about a year but I didn't see much difference. Funnily enough I started a weekly lemon juice (freshly squeezed) and sugar exfoliation routine and followed up with Aloe vera gel + moisturising and it seems to be getting more results than the derma roller in terms of colour tone and a little better texture.
A good diet free from refined sugars/carbohydrates and alcohol also helps but the weathered look that pitting gives you doesn't seem to ever go away!

No one on this forum, besides Quirky Fox, has tried Genuine Derma Roller treatments? Really?
I have for about 6 treatments. I tried two different very expensive Harley Street clinics, they were supposed to be one of the best (after doing lots of review reading) but I haven't seen good results besides they were so aggressive on some occasions blood was flowing down to my neck. Also treatments were incredibly painful even with numbing cream (they used genuine dermarollers).
I then decided to study the techniques did lots of reading about rollers, stamps watched videos, read some more and started rolling and stamping myself. I recently started getting some results. I can very confidently say that I can roll and stamp much better than those aestheticians.

For QuirkyFox or anyone who has tried the Genuine Dermaroller -
I actually found the Genuine Dermaroller at 1.5-2.0 mm for sale in Japanese drug/beauty stores. I'm not thinking of trying it home but I'm curious to know what you think of the topicals, like the Lipopeptides, HA serum and moisturizer. Are you using the ones recommended for the The Dermaroller? If so, do you like them?

Inspired the only 2 scientifically proved topicals to work for dermarolling are retin a and vit c just my opinion but everything would be a waste maybe except cooper peptides
