I think the before pic is prior to the dermabrasion and dermarolling. That's why the improvement looks so amazing for just one treatment. I don't think the picture is from soon after rolling. The micro swelling isn't that significant. In fact, I really didn't have any after my first treatment.
I'm almost 6 weeks out from my first treatment.
Results? A few people have commented that my face has a new 'glow' to it. My makeup goes on a lot more smoothly than it ever did before. My scars? No change.
Even though I know that it's going to take a lot more than 6 weeks and one treatment, I still can't help but be a bit disappointed. Hope I'm spending my money wisely...especially since I signed up for five treatments!

How much?
What length is the needle?
Also, you need to make sure you are eating well for maximum benefit.
Also, topicals might hinder your healing. I heard copper peptides should not be used when dermarolling. Vitamin e also hinders healing when applied to open wounds.
And.... It's only people who heal fast and good enough that are able to see results early. Usually it takes 10 months of treatment to see results.
If you dont mind, may i ask your age?
Had my second dermaroller treatment the other day. Trying to stay patient and positive because so far, I don't see any change in my scars. My skin does feel pretty good though and I've noticed that I'm not getting hormonal acne which might have something to do with the home rolling (.2mm) I do. My esthetician was more aggressive this time so there was some real blood when she stamped my scars. Otherwise, it was the same as the first time - sunburnt face, dry, tight feeling. I'm not peeling nearly as much as I did the first time though. I think the home rolling is helping slough off the dead epidermal cells. Will report back in 6-8 weeks!
Question for you Quirky Fox....
Given my scarring is mild to moderate, my esthetician has speculated that 3 treatments will likely suffice. Of course, she never made any promises...this is just what she estimated when I pressured her for an answer (my bad, I know!).
Anyhow, the office is doing a promo right now - Buy 3, Get 1 Free + 3 free glycolic peels. They've never done it before and It seems like too good a deal to pass up. However, it is a lot of money to dish out up front, espcially when it's too early to see any results from my first treatment (which was almost 3 weeks ago now). Plus, it would get me 5 treatments, 2 of which I might not even need (although I suppose I could always use them for maintenance purposes).
What do you think? Should I go for it? I know you said that you started seeing results after the 3rd treatment. Did the 4th and 5th provide significantly more visible improvement on the scars?
Thanks!!!!!
Oh man, how did I miss this post?! Sorry!
3? No... aim for 5. At three that was when I was only just starting to see the huge improvement! Yes, yes, yes! The fourth and fifth treatments gave me the most dramatic results by far. I promise I'm not bluffing you here. 5 treatments spaced at least 7 weeks apart... you'll see a new you.
And you don't have to stop there. I just had my first eDermastamp treatment which is amazing (will tell you more if you're interested). My long term skin care goal is three Dermaroller treatments a year - for maintenance and to further improve scarring (and wrinkles... when I start getting them, or should I say IF! ). The eDermastamp is giving the Dermaroller a run for its money in my books though. It's made by the same company, cheaper and can penetrate deeper.

Hooray! So glad you've gone for it. I'm excited for you. Do not lose hope and stick to your post needling skin care routine. What you put on your face is just as important as the skin needling treatments. It's only upwards and onwards from here!
In 6-8 weeks I'll also be able to report on my progress with the eDermastamp!
No one on this forum, besides Quirky Fox, has tried Genuine Derma Roller treatments? Really?
Also, this is sad right?! Goes to show you how polluted the market is with all of the cheap Dermaroller copies and people attempting home treatments. I get it, people want to save money, but if you're serious about treating your skin you pay for what you get. Home treatments though? Waste of time and money... plus not to mention the risks! It's like attempting to do surgery on your busted appendix using a spoon and a packet of frozen peas for pain relief. Not going to work and you might wind up in more trouble than what you had to begin with. People expect miracles from inferior devices and home treatments then get frustrated when they don't work. There's a reason they don't work...
Again, good luck and keep us posted!
It's also very hard to find a professional in the US anyway who provides these treatments - and they are expensive.
I use a 0.5mm dermastamp every 10 days or so, I'm a nut about hygine and keeping things sterilzed - I've been at it for several months and I have definitely seen improvement. But you have to stay with it, for many months...so many people give up.
For those of you who have had it done professionally, what topicals do you use after? That can have a big impact- PLEASE SHARE.
Me personally I use super CP serum right after the rolling and I'm now layering topical pure MSM on about 15 minutes after that. No downtime with the 0.5 mm stamp for me, just that night I'm red with pin point bleeding- next day is always great with the microswelling!

Yes, it can be difficult to find dermarolling in North America. I live in Toronto (largest city in Canada) and only found 4 places that offered the treatments!
Post-rolling it's only hyaluronic acid for me - both after my professional rolls (1.5mm) and home rolls (.2mm). I was told to never apply a Vit C or A serum immediately after a deep roll as it could burn your skin.
Also, sunscreen. So important. I use Oclipse sunscreen + primer. It's stupid expensive ($75!) but it feels so amazing on my skin that for me, the splurge is worth it.
Curious, what would you use to avoid the risk of infection during the healing process? Do professionals recommend anything?
The holes close up fairly quickly. I can't remember how long it takes after a deep roll but it's a matter of hours; not days or weeks. The risk of infection is very low if you keep your face clean (i.e. free of makeup, harsh products, etc). After a roll, I just wash my face with tepid water and keep applying hyaluronic acid serum which is very nourishing for the skin. Once the holes have closed the work takes place in the dermis which is protected by the epidermal layer.
what brand of hyraulonic acid, is it OTC? thanks all for being so willing to share!
I use Swiss Clinical. I get it from the esthetician. It's expensive ($100 bottle) but if you only use it post-rolling, it will last a long time. Of course, there are probably a lot cheaper options out there. Maybe check out Makeup Alley? They'll likely have some recos.

Hey, i saw you're from Canada. From who are you getting this treatments from? And what is the price range?

6 weeks since my last Dermaroller treatment. My skin has never looked better...but the scars are still there. Ugly as ever. Not giving up hope yet though.
You paid $500 per treatment or for a package of treatments?
Dont worry, you'll see some improvements soon! I wish you luck!

I don't go to the cheapest place around but for me, the relationship is key. I need to really trust the person poking needles in my face!
Hi, I'm joining in this thread as I see your posts are quite recent and have regular follow up.
I have read so much on dermarolling on many forums but only decided to join in here.
As a quick intro, I'm from Singapore and have 2 dermarolling done so far. Also had one rf sublative treatment done. It's from a recognized medical center.
The thing about my package is kinda weird. 5 dermarolls and 5 rf sublative treatments in the package. My lady doctor have 8-10 years of experience in treating acne scars and she feels a combination of these 2 techniques produce the best effect based on her experience.
Her post topical treatments include vit C followed by hydron pore refining and then spf50 sunblock. These are for the morning. At night, it will be retin A plus their recovery gel which is basically made of castor, rosehip oils for recovery. These are only applied 3 days after dermarolling.
She's using a 2mm roller on me and she did mention, no pain no gain. So there's always blood coming out after the procedures.
I only have 2 complains so far. She likes to do dermarolling with only 4 weeks spaced apart which I have informed her many online patients advised its 6-8 weeks between. And the second complaint is retin A makes my pores bigger. I hate it but I have to endure for collagen growth.

The space between treatments depends on alot of factors. Mostly on how long the needle used is, how agressive, your type of skin.
As stated in owndoc.com by Sarah Vaughter, males have thicker skin than women so generally, men can have their microneedling sessions nearer each other than a woman.
I'd be careful about retin A though. Retin A isn't ABSOLUTELY neccessary and if it is causing some problems you might want to use it less or remove from your regimen.
Hi quirky fox and djm, thanks for your info. I'm joining this forum because of you 2
Oh DJM, my first dermaroller procedure done by the medical professional just happened to be about the same time as you, I think.

Welcome! Glad you joined. My hope is that this thread will give different experiences/perspectives on professional dermarolling. It's something I found lacking when I was doing my own research.
I find it odd that your treatments are only 4 weeks apart when you consider the collagen growth cycle. I wonder why your practitioner is taking this approach. Please keep us posted on your progress. Good luck!
Hi, while I was checking for more details on the collagen growth cycle as DMJ reminded me, I came across Sarah's post on the hairs on scar.
"Scar tissue has no or very limited metabolic activity (no blood supply etc).
Miconeedling restores or partially restores the metabolic activity in the scar. It triggers re-vascularisation (new blood vessels) and as soon as there is a blood supply, the scar starts to behave more like "normal" skin and there is a big chance it will improve in appearance."
Do you notice any growth of tiny hair on your scars after some time?
I was quite concerned about blood supply underneath the scars but quite happy to know that dermaroll can build new blood capillaries beneath the scars and thus will improve the skin.
