About a month ago, against my better judgement, I had cortisone injected into a pimple that probably would have healed by now. My doctor only used one shot and let me know that she would use a lower dose because of my concerns regarding atrophy. Well it didn't work! Last week I noticed that the skin around the injection site has lightened in color (I am am African American so it is quite noticeable) and a dent has formed. The skin also feels quite thin...and a little weird.
Will this go away?? Do saline injuections work? Will my color come back?? What are your experiences??? I am really scared......PLEASE HELP!!!!
your situation is very common. It's happend to me a couple times. Both times the skin filled back in and the discoloration went away, but it took around a year-year and a half. I don't knw anything about saline injections but if you are that worried about it I'm sure there are things you can do to make it heal faster.
I've never had this problem personally, but here's a thread with info. about the saline injections. It's kind of old, but should prove useful. http://www.acne.org/messageboard/cortisone...ortisone+saline
Now that i think about it i got these type of pimples befre too. They feel like you can move your skin and inside its all like empty right and its really dark. Im sorry that this happened but everytime this happened to me i would get a ugly deppressed scar after it healed i hope it doesnt happen to you honestly.
Thanks for your reply. Were your "dimples" deep dents or more shallow. A year is a long time! I am hoping that because mine is not deep (although still noticeable) it will not take that long.
they were pretty shallow, not really too noticeable by the eye, but you could feel the "dip" in the skin.
Hi everyone
Less than a week ago, I received a cortisone shot (my first time) for a painful inflamed spot on my chin.
I've noticed that the area has indeed sunken in a bit, to the point that I can feel it if I put the tip of my pinky inside. It's not HORRIBLE (I actually prefer it to the cyst), but it does bother me quite a lot. It's not terribly discolored, but you can notice a shadow. I'll be really depressed if it gets any deeper. It's more wide than deep right now.
Has this happened to anyone else? Did it A) Get any worse as time went by? B) respond to any treatments?
I'm really hoping I can resolve this, or at least temporarily make it better while it works to resolve itself.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP. ANY IDEAS, ANYTHING?
It's not super deep, so I think it would respond quite well to some sort of treatment (verses something very deep)
Had a cortisone injection about a month ago... about two weeks ago noticed a dent beginning to form... Looks like it's gotten slightly deeper. I take solodyn and didn't know if that increases the effect of the shot. And more importantly is it going to get worse or better. I'm also a very self conscious person and so i am freaking out. I typically never get them. It's the second one I've had and they were a month apart in the same area.... My thought was too much was in my chin in that area.
But can some one please tell me how soon this will get better and if it will get any worse?
HELP!

That's pretty much my timing too. Tomorrow will be a month since I got the injection but I only noticed the dent a little more than 2 weeks ago. It was the first and only shot I had in that area for a pimple, not a major cyst. I'm freaking out too. I'm very OCD about my skin. Everytime I look in the mirror, the first thing I see is the dent. Mine is near the lower corner of my mouth.
What I've been doing myself is eating more thing with vitamin C and protein. I know it sounds stupid, but not enough protein can affect wound healing. And Vitamin C is needed to produce collagen. I don't know if it will actually help, but I'm going to try.
Hey all, I am a 20 y.o. female who has been on Accutane twice before with great success. This past April ( about a year and two months after my second course) I began to get hormonal cystic acne again. Started with just one cyst, but it left a big scar so I decided to do something about it. After a lot of research, I decided to try my luck at Spironolactone as it was used with such great success to treat hormonal acne, which I had. Big mistake. I broke out horribly on my chin and the area of skin along my eyebrow. I stopped the drug after three weeks and was still getting consistent cystic breakouts along the skin between my eyebrows (this is a problem area for me, i am also scar-prone) and within a few weeks I had several cortisone injections in that area to prevent scarring. At first I noticed that one of the spots was kind of red and a little sensitive, but I didn't think anything of it.
Now it's been about three months since I've had the injections, and there is a row of about three spots in that area that is slightly pinker than the surrounding skin, thinner, very sensitive, giving my skin a slightly dented appearance. It feels like the muscle is weaker there somehow, and it hurts to apply pressure there. I'm terrified that I've caused permanent damage to my skin just trying to treat it. I know that it's already been about three months but is it possible that this will heal over time? I am on Accutane now so I know that could affect the healing process.
Please help!
I got a dent from an injection in July, and it took two months for it to fill in though I do still have a pinprick of a hole maybe from the needle. I'm sure yours will fill in, but I have read Accutane can slow the healing process. So maybe it will just take a little longer. When I was worried about mine, I had read it can take 6-12 months for them to fill in.

I too am in the same boat, unfortunately. I had an injection in my cheek, right on the apple of my cheek, the week before my wedding. The good news is for my wedding the cyst (which would have for sure been giant) was flat and not noticeable. The bad news is it's 5 months later, and it's still there. It's annoying because at this point my skin is perfect besides the 1 dent, so to me that makes it really noticeable. Anyways so I have an appt with the Derm for next Weds. I had this happen once before and she tried the saline injection thing. She acted really skeptical but was nice and did it for free. That one eventually went away, I would say after 5-6 months. Which makes me worried since it's already been that long... Anyways I digress. Good luck guys and I hope yours goes away. I feel your pain.
Cortisone is not good long term. It will not get rid of the root cause of cyst; the cyst can come back; it can scar and injecting steroids into your skin isnt going to do the general health of your skin any good.
I would advise trying ten percent BP on cystic acne before resorting to steroid injections.
There are pix in this thread:
http://www.acne.org/messageboard/dent-cort...t&p=2722370
it all depends on the dose that is administered. I have one on my hip/butt that is the size of a quarter. Hoping to get it filled in eventually.
Thanks for the replies!
Went to my dermatologist and he said the acne is really out of control. Might be from a staph infection. So he's giving me antibiotics while we wait for the test results... My face is disgusting right now, full of bumps on both sides and its like crusty dry.

Did you have a culture done? Did the doctor use a swab on your skin to test for bacteria, etc? Good luck with getting this figured out.
Yeah the nurse did. Still waiting for the test results!
Does anyone know if schools allow people with staph to come in? Since I've heard its contagious
Depends on the kind of staph and what it's resistant to (if anything). Everyone has staph on their bodies. It's just a part of you and your body. Don't freak!
Staph, not sure if it can cause food poisoning but it's possible. I'd have to look it up. It is however a common skin and skin structure infection and mucous membrane infection as well. A healthy person generally doesn't get a staph infection as the immune system fights it off.
Hello fellow dent sufferers,
I see the last post here was in Sept 2010 and I am curious to know how anyone's injection dents look today. I am concerned about one myself on my chin and am panicking to hear some good news. My dermatologist suggests messaging the dent area but I really want to do something more. I saw some vitamin c powder at Ulta that is suppose to "hasten" collagen growth but not sure if it is worth the money. (It was called Turbo Booster C Powder by Philosophy.) I am considering buying it just to feel like I am helping it to heal. I did call the dermatologist back (after a month) and she did not mention anything about saline injections but perhaps if she saw the size of it she could suggest something more than just message.
If anyone can give me an update of how your dents are healing I could possibly feel some relief for my problem area, or have a better time frame as of now I've had this dent for 2 months and I see no improvement at all. I am 45 years old and really worried about collagen reproducing. A hole in my chin is the last thing I need at my age.
i have the opposite problem i have had 2 huge cyst on the sides of my nose both treated with cortisone injections. they didnt leave indention instead it left me with two bumps on the side. which my derm said was scar tissue.idk what to do to flatten them .im using Kelo-Cote just started using it last week dont see and results yet..
