Hi everyone. Miss Shady--I am still doing very well. I posted about a week ago that I noticed a big "boost" at around the the 3 month mark. Dr. Y told me to expect thhis, but I guess I didn't quite believe him all the way. I have not been taking phots of myself and I'm sure I wouldn't have the nerve to post them if I had, but I can tell you that I am veru very pleased I had this done. It doesn't work miracles--I still have scarring. BUT, it is so much softer and so much less noticable--it's really the only thing I've tried that has had measurable, evenr dramatic results. I am pondering going back again for one more next summer, but we'll see. I continue to see improvement each week, so I am vowing not to make that decision until my improvement plateaus.

Sunblock,

That's funny that Dr. Y's office would say that because I had no problem being dropped off right in front of the hospital. It is true that the majority of people who take the shuttle are going to the hotels either downtown or in the French Quarter, but I had no problem getting to Dr. Y's office. Just remember you're going to the Baptist hospital (either the Napoleon St or the Clara St entrance), because there are several in town.

best of luck next week!

Hi all,

Dr.Berman in California told me that if a person has

many icepick/box/rolling scars in oneplace (ex. cheeks, nose)

then Punch grafts are the best treatment (not Punch floats).

Punch Grafts will get rid of scars 100%.

After Punch grafts they would dermabrade the skin.

This has work wonders for acne scars on nose.

I was wondering if anybody here had the treatment.

Please let me know. Thanks.

Darn, I missed yur last reply Leo. I ended up taking a cab b/c I as nearly late. That was not a good experience either. The driver had no idea where Napoleon Ave. was and the map I brought that I printed from the internet was no good b/c the driver couldn't read! But, somehow I made it there before my appointment at 11:00. Thanks for your post.

I had 20 punch floats done. The rest of my scars are shallow ice pick types. It was very pleasing meeting with Cassandra and Dr. Y. He mentioned this board and I talked to them about it b/c he does not have the access. ( I read that a good doctor never advertises themselves and that's the type or person he is!!) I said the last person who had dermabrasion that I know of on the board was Misty and they were like "oh, yes!... very sweet woman". I said I would have never had gotten there without her help and Poe's. Yes, he remembered you guys. You guys helped me gain the ambition to actually travel to one of the best! Much thanks to Leo and Kiki also. I just mentioned Poe b/c I am of asian decent also.

It's Baptist-affiliated --I think it's called Baptist Memorial Hospital. Hope that helps.

Sunblock-- So glad to know that things went so well. Please keep us posted.

Good luck to everyone else going out there.

Turtlebug,

It's very common for Drug Reps to give away Restylane to physicians.

LOVE,

At first, I imagined it was something along those lines, but the doctor is very uncooperative and won't give me the information Medicis needs to confirm. Anyone would be doubting their doc if they developed a bad reaction and then, in the process of trying to find out why, their doctor became defensive, unresponsive, then communicated via his attorney. By not answering my questions or Medicis' questions to confirm the product is highly suspect. Sorry if you didn't understand that part.

oldguy,

Dr. Berman wasn't holding clinical trials for Restylane. This was confirmed by the FDA.

It's funny -- you both "sound" so sure of yourself in your statements. I know you both post here a lot but... =oP Believe me, I've done my research for all the possible scenarios and if I had the time (and my own thread instead of stealing someone else's.. sorry!) I would have relayed every detail in my first post.

By the way, thanks for trying to find an answer but if any of the above were even remotely true, Dr. Berman would have simply told me and provided the info. End of Story. In fact, I asked him again for the like the millionth time last week. Instead, he just doesn't answer, even when I confronted him with a letter from the Associate Director of Regulatory Affairs, Medicis stating that the filler could not have been Restylane (for specific reasons). It has been a long year of investigative phone calls and letters to Dr. Berman, his attorney, the FDA and Medicis so I don't make the accusation lightly. I have written evidence from the FDA and Medicis. There are many details that I won't go on about since it would create a post even longer than this, but if anyone has any more *facts* to provide or any questions, I'll be happy to respond. =oP

The reaction I had was like little bug bites at every injection site -- small, round and red -- and it lasted for approx 3 months. Ugh, you can imagine what that looked like. Also, the filler was (and still is, after all this time) visibly lumpy tho this was most likely his poor technique. Since that time, there has been distinct pigmentation change at the site of the injections compared to adjacent skin and one of the pigmented lumps has increased into a dime sized scar-like area. It's my hope that the filler will eventually be absorbed by the skin, but it has been a year now so I'm not terribly optimistic. Although Medicis claims that this is not consistent with the use of Restylane, I recently saw a highly respected Plastic Surgeon who says he refuses to use Restylane in his office because he's seen reactions similar to mine.

So, this has been my own personal experience in all it's honest glory. Many will not have the reactions that I've had (to whatever it was I was injected with). Disregard it or file it in the back of your mind -- sup to you -- but I know that, as thorough as I am, I need to be so definitely sure of my next derm/plastic surgeon. Dr. Y sounds very trustworthy and I am seriously considering a consultation with him. Oh, and truly sorry for getting off topic but when I came across Dr. Berman's name, I just had to relay my own personal experience. I hope it helps someone just as discovering this board has helped me. =oP

Does anyone know how long after surgery can you go outside with sunscreen for an extended period of time during the day without getting hyperpigmented? You think it would be okay to be exposed to sun rays 4-5 hours per day WITH a very protective sunscreen just 3 months after the procedure? Maybe throw in a hat? Reason I ask is that 3 months from the date I am considering having dermabrasion, I had been planning a trip to Copacabana and wasn't sure if this was a great idea. But this opportunity to go might not come up for a long time. So I am struggling with the decision. And I really don't want to put off getting this done much longer.

Hello. This is my first post. I'd like to say this board is very wonderful and supportive. I want to thank everyone who posted info about dermabrasion and the before and after pics. Those pics show great results and that's the reason I'm booking an appointment with Dr. Y.

November 29th is the date. I have before pics. I will post them along with after pics and my daily progress for the first 7 days, then weekly for 5 weeks, then monthly for 11 months. I am totally convinced that this procedure is long due and needed for my face. Trust me, I have deep scars. I had learned to live with them for so many years, and now I have enough money and feel that I want to look better. I'm not vain. After seeing my pics, you'd see the reason why it's needed. Wish me luck.

Male, Asian

29

Battled with acne for years

Acne under control

Deep scars and many

Remedy: Full face dermabrasion, followed by a cheek dermabrasion 1 year after the full face dermab.

Goal: Reduce pigmentation and appearance of scars.

LeafsFan,

There are 2 other Asian patients who recently had dermabrasions with Dr.Y; Poe and Moonsoon.

Hey guys,

i'm probably going for dermabrasion sometime next year, i got a call yesterday from a former Dr.Y patient, he was mexican and he had olive skin tone( i have a lighter tone) but i needed some medium skin tone opinions and experience. Well he has already had 2 and had no complications, the man was astonished and praised Dr.Y as the best thing that ever happened to his face, he will do a 3rd one soon too.

He told me that it takes around 6 months for total regular skin tone to come back, i'm talking about 100% normal. He didn't have punch floats but he estimated his first dermabration yielded %65 percent improvement and second one 85-90%, he had mild to moderate scarring.

He told me about the sun too, no direct sun for almost a year, i mean sunbathing or whatnot, sucks for me cause i surf everyday but i'll start going 3-4 months after in the afternoon with sunblock.

I'm almost set just need to make my appointment, i would suggest to people to do a consultation first before actually scheduling dermabrasion, or talk to Dr.Y and send pictures in.

I plan on flying over to New Orleans to get a full face dermabrasion, in April/May of next year, i have not called him up yet to enquire as i basically know all i need to know, plus i dont have the money for the deposit yet, my main concern though is that i might need 2 or 3 dermabrasions, and there is no way in hell i could afford that! NO WAY! my mum is taking out a bank loan to pay for all of this, i stay in the United Kingdom, so the approx amount of money i will need for the whole trip is ‚£5000, which is about $9000, there is the flights, the hotel, the cab fair's, food, and the acctual cost of the procedure itself, so i just hope that i am really happy with the results of one dermabrasion. My scarring is fairly shallow and i dont really have much of it, so i just pray to god 1 dermabrasion will be all i need. eusa_pray.gif

Turtlebug,

Thanks for informing me about Dr.Berman. Yes, he is in Palo Alto ,CA.

I normally consult about 3 to 4 Doctors before I decide on a treatment.

I'm sorry for what happened to you. Take care.

Hi Miss Shady,

I plan to have dermabrasion in March/April. It would be nice to meet someone from this board.

Even though I have found a lot of useful information on this board, I do plan to write to him as I want him to know, in advance, the details re: my scarring and what I have done to help reduce it.

Is anyone else planning to go there in March/April? I will be coming from Los Angeles and planning on staying there for at least a week.

Kiki:

Thanks for the info. You are always helpful. eusa_angel.gif I just ordered some of that sunscreen online. I think I am also going to look into hyperbaric oxygen therapy after the dermabrasion...it is supposed to speed up the recovery and healing process (in theory). And hopefully, with extreme caution, I can go on my beach trip.

Cheers,

Dan

Miss Shady you don't need to have another derma immediately the year after, you could save up for going in again in a year or two, i'm sure you'll be happy with your first and then if you decide to get another at least you can enjoy your present improved skin smile.gif
