Morris,

Since we're both in the same area, are there any Docs you would recommend?  I'd appreciate any suggestions.  smile.gif  I plan on having a consultation with Dr. Y very soon, but it'd be nice to have a good, local derm to discuss my scars with as well.

Dan,

Dr. James Fulton James Fulton (derm who co-created Benzyl Peroxide and Retin A) uses the hyperbaric technique following dermabrasion. When I saw him, it was around $7000.

Kiki, Is this the same Dr. Fulton you're referring to?

Dan,

Dr. James Fulton James Fulton (derm who co-created Benzyl Peroxide and Retin A) uses the hyperbaric technique following dermabrasion. I consulted with him and the only reason I didn't choose him was he only did dermabrasion with Co2 laser at the same time, dual technique in 1 procedure....and I've had Co2 with negative results. But, he pioneered using the 02 chamber after resurfacing and he might be a good person to speak with about the proper way to have it done. His cost for the dual procedure including 5 days 02 treatment, when I saw him, was around $7000.

I dont like that sound of Dermbrasion and C02 laser on my face at the same time, NO WAY! i wouldnt go near laser treatment for acne scarring, although i suppose Dr Fulton does sound like a clever man, but i think i'll stick to Dr Yarborough!

Amnesiac yeah i have thought about that, but i doubt very much that Dr Y will still be working in 2007, and i dont want to go to anyone other than him sad.gif But you never know, i might be extremly happy with just one dermabrasion.

A comment and a couple of questions. When I consulted w/Dr. Y I asked him about Hyperbaric O2 and he said that he wasn't aware of any of his patients that had if after a dermabrasion. I was curious about this too.

Has anyone used Amino Plex spray after a resurfacing procedure? Although it's not the same as an O2 chamber, it may speed healing? I'm just curious if it's safe and it works? I'd think you'd have to have two of the same procedures done and use the stuff after one of the treatments to truly find out?

Kiki, thanks for posting that sunscreen link. I'm curious on how it 'goes on,' and looks after it's applied. I mean is it thick, does it blend well, turn invisible after being on for awhile?

I use neutragena 30spf sensetive skin and like it pretty well. As a comparison I think the 45spf 'oil free' goes on and looks shiny afterwards-not my favorite. Therefore, I wanted to pick up some of the 45 spf (dry) to see how that works.

Thanks, hope your skin is continuing to improve. Have you booked your second surgery?

Hi LeafsFan,

Congrats on your decision. There are 2 other Asian patients who recently had dermabrasions with Dr.Y; Poe and Moonsoon.

Have you considered having any Punch Floats in the weeks prior to your dermabrasion? Or, do you not have any icepick scarring?

Hey Craig! I too use Neutrogena 45 and it's not my favorite in terms of how it goes on. But I want at least 45 and I trust Neutrogena products so I stuck with it. Now maybe I'll try the one Kiki recommended.

Anyway, I don't know anything about the oxygen, but I did use amino-plex after my dermabrasion and I liked it. I didn't start using it until after about 5-7 days, and of course without a control run to compare it to, I don't know how I would've healed without it, but I do think it did help. It's expensive, so that's a factor. But in my opinion, topicals work better in healing than they do in simple scar remodeling, so I used quite a bit of it in the healing stages, because I didn't think it would make much difference after I had already healed up (if that makes any sense).

I think you can buy it through Richard at Loganwood for a decent price.

Hope that helps. Hey, did you have a chance to reschedule your procedure yet?

best,

You don't have to get all defensive, I'm sure he's a great man. His name just clicked when you mentioned him in your post. I remember researching microdroplet silicone injections a couple years back and found something in his profile that made me want to go to Dr. Orentreich almost 3,000 mi. away, even though I'm in CA, as is Dr. Fulton. I'm sure "one" or even two accusations in a 40 year span would seem somewhat suspicious, but losing license privaleges in LA, FL, and NY, and being threatened by the CA medical board is something else. He did study at Tulane University, so maybe Dr. Yarborough can attest to his greatness. The disciplinary actions may all just be frivolous, and I do credit him with co-developing the products you mentioned.

Yes, that's him.

Q: Where did Retin A come from?

A: Dr. James Fulton

He developed tretinion (Retin A) for the University of Pennsylvania in 1969.

Q: Where did Benzoyl Peroxide come from?

A: Dr. James Fulton

He developed benzoyl peroxide gel (Panoxyl) for the University of Miami in 1975.

Q: Where did Topical Erthromycin come from?

A: Dr. James Fulton

He developed topical erthromycin (E-Gel) for the University of Miami in 1975.

Q: Who is now developing the new Topical A propionate?

A: Dr. James Fulton.

I remember researching his background too. He's 64 years old and has been in practice for at least 30+ years. As far as I know, he's only had 1 complaint since 1970 and it has not been proven that he did anything wrong yet, only an "allegation." The other case does not reveal the accusation, but it's not filed by a patient, it was filed by the Board, and he only had to pay a nominal fee to clear that up.

1 "yet to be proven" accusation by a patient in his entire career...not too shabby.

Kiki

The ScreenSeS goes on well, dries clear; doesn't give you that "chalky" look.

Craig,

I think you asked earlier about hotels in early November as I have been trying to desperately find one reasonable with me flying in and taxi fares. But if you look up on expedia.com or some website with new orleans hotels and pick one that might be a few miles farther than the ones on St. Charles it actually evens out cheaper with taxi fares included rather than paying $500 for 3 nights.

I use DDF (doctor's dermatologic formula) sunblock in spf 30. I love it b/c it looks good under my make up but I will probably up a notch to 45 spf or 60 spf after my dermabrasion. Tough winds on the east coast here during winter!

Kiki, thanks for that run down on the sunscreen. I might get some eusa_think.gif

I still want to pick up some of that Neutra (dry spf 45) formula. I'm curious on how that goes on.

Sunblock, thanks for that info on hotels. I got tired of looking and ended up changing my dates from Nov to Jan. It actually worked out better as airfair was cheaper too. Oddly enough there must be another convention going on in January as Hampton and Clarion are over $120 a night. I did find a place on St. Chuck's though smile.gif

Hey I'm glad your reporting back on your punch floats and things seem to be healing well. Good luck to you when do you go back for your derm?

Oh yeah, Misty if your out there, come back soon. You have a 'cult like' following on these boards and everyone (including myself) repespects your opinion. Plus the pics are nice too eusa_angel.gif

Are dermabrasion results really temporary??

Everyday i feel there is no hope for these damn scars, i am guessing that they are vastly improved but you wish to remove them completely wich can be done if money is available, after 3 dermabrasions your face should be almost flawless.

I am going for full face next year and spot treatment a year after.

Are you going for spot treatment Kiki?

Amnesiac i feel the exact same way as you, at times i feel like nothig on this earth could ever help my scarring, plus i just know that i am going to need more than one dermabrasion, i'm guessing about 3, but i'll never have the money for 3!! plus i want Dr Yarborough to do all 3 of them, i dont want anyone other than Dr Y going near my face. but obviously he will be retired by the time i need my 2nd and 3rd full face dermabrasion. AAAAAARGH! its so frustrating!!! eusa_wall.gifeusa_wall.gif

Wow, If I can count the number of scars on my face I would not bother with another dermabrasion. Kiki, your skin looks extremely smooth and I don't think I can see the 4 scars. Hope you're not too critical of yourself.

I sent in my pictures for Dr. Y to see. I can see your point about a face-to-face consultation so he could see the possibility of doing floats. But I reason that I will need at least one dermabrasion so the first one is to just to get most of the minor scars dermbraded, and the major ones reduced and looking smoother. The major ones will be individually taken care of, if needed. Right now, I have too many scars, one laying on top of another and there's no point to do punch floats. However, if I'm happy with the outcome of the first dermabrasion, I will not do another. Small scarring gives a person a bit of character, my uncle always say. smile.gif

If you get your 2nd and 3rd dermabrasion within 1 yr of your first, ie. 1st in Dec. of 04, 2nd in June, 3rd in Dec. of 05, you could make it happen with Dr. Y.

I am hoping that I only have to do this one time. And since I know you cannot cure it but improve it I atleast want to be satisfied enough to be able to look in the mirror around others without freaking out b/c of lighting and finally putting this research behind me!

Kiki, do y ou feel that your socail life and perhaps your happiness is better since the dermabrasion? I do like the way your skin looks and would say that it proved me that I can actually go through with this. I am only taking two weeks exactly off after my derm. To Poe, or anyone else, did you feel comfortable around others after two weeks? Poe, since your asian, I just thought your opinion could help me out... a little worried about the hypopigment thing. I have not had the best week since my punches. I look like a chocolate chip cookie with extra chocolate chips and yes even with makeup. I have around four that have scabbed out of the surface. Sounds funny but it really sucks.

Just been sitting at home watching the baseball games. I feel that with all this prepping and stuff I should be happy and feel it was worth it in the end.

My hotel is going to be $75 a night. I will stay 4 nights, only 3 after derm.

My scarring is really not that bad, but to me it is, i know that with one and some spot dermabrasion done later(cheaper) i will be satisfied, i just want this over that's why i'm currently working my @ss off, i'll have the $6,000 in about 3 1/2 months so maybe on feb. march april i'll be going in to finally put this to rest.

Does anyone know if i should not take vit e before derma? how much before?

I am taking them because my doctor prescriped it with vit A, b-complex and C too.

Thanks
