Hi All,

I'm here for a short moment to make a return from the dead smile.gif

Sorry I haven't been here in a while, I became overwhelmed with my work and had a move in between and relationship issues, etc... (ugh, life).

Anyway,

I wanted to give a little update here, I thought it would also be a good thing if I took a break from the board and let some time pass to assess the results more accurately.

As you may know, my dermabrasion was on Dec. 20, 2004.

As of today I still maintain significant improvement on my right side of my face, I would have to say a very good improvement of say 60-70%.  Many people come up to me and when talking about my dermabrasion people will say "I notice a great deal of improvement on this side", etc...

As for my left side which had the most significant ice pick and hill and valley type scarring, it is improved but not nearly as significant.  Initially this appeared to have been improved better.  My tone has come back to normal 100% everywhere.

I have 1 hypertrophic scar from the procedure which I'm not happy with and will see Dr. Y when I go back to Louisiana to see family at some point this year.  It's small but looks like a zit constantly.  It's also a bit painful.  It's where a punch float did not heal properly. (cheek)

As for my dark colored areas (flat mole growths - how gross) on the side of my head and face near my left temple and eye area, 100% gone with no sign of return - to me, the dermabrasion was worth it for that reason alone.

All scars have been softened everywhere.  Some are gone completely.

My overall texture has improved significantly.  People still comment on that.  I feel it could be much better, but I suppose it has received vast improvement.

I don't think I'll have another Dermabrasion, unless Dr. Y feels I'd really benefit from it (only to rid the hypertrophic scar created by this process).

It's kinda a weird thing actually, it is still crusting regularly, after like 5 months.

I had been wanting dermabrasion since I was 16 and finally got it last Christmas.  It was a gift to myself I had been waiting a long time for.  While the results could have been better (wishes of course), I feel I did benefit well from this procedure and do not regret having it done at all.

I believe it was more traumatic than I was anticipating.  The process is intense in my eyes.

I would recommend this procedure WITH punch floats to anyone with acne scarring.

I hope everyone is healing well from their dermabrasions and again I'm sorry for not popping my head in here sooner.

Cheers,

Chris - Portlandboy23

I forgot to ask earlier - dermpatron, since Dr. Y floated stuff you didn't think he initially could - how are things that aren't round floated since the tool is round? Thanks!

Hey Portlandboy! Thanks for checking in w/your progress; I'm glad that things are looking much better for you.

I had my derm w/Dr. Y on January 3rd so it's been 5 months for me; overall I would say I've gotten about 30-40% improvement...better in some areas than others.....definitely an improvement from before. One of the floats I had done on a deep scar didn't stay flush w/the surface; it seems to have sunken in and is now about 50% improved. I'm going to wait a full year before I decide if I want to go for another one. I've read that several people felt the procedure was intense and traumatic; my experience seemed quite easy. I took the the pain meds for the first 3 days (and ordered room service so I didn't have to go out!); that seemed to make a big difference for me.....just kind of floated through the whole process. The only thing that really drove me crazy was the itching for a whole month afterwards wacko.gif !

Leo...

did you had any excisions or punch excisions done with Y?

does he do this procedures too or he only do dermabrasion

was ur scars superficial or kinda deep...into the dermal layer?

were they pigmented or of natural skin colour

my scars few of them are deep so i was wondering if dermbrasion would do any good

nice to hear that you are healing well..

in addition to drinking lots of water keep off from refined

sugar.

low sugar assist in healing

Dermpaton,

You said you r goin on a cruise. Would you say you are happier with the punch floats at this stage, than the scar that was there previously? Is it ok to get sun exposure after punch floats? I know it is not after the dermabrasion.

Hi there everybody. Sorry Tom Tom for not responding earlier--it's been a crazy month for me. Actually, I just returned from New Orleans and my second forehead dermabrasion with Dr. Y and Cassandra. I'm not going to write quite the travelogue that I did last year (which began this thread 62 pages ago!), but I will say that I am really excited with my decision to go back there. It was so great to see them both again--I just love both of them. I could gush more about them, but I'll just stop that right now.

Most striking was when Cassandra showed me my before pics from last year. I do not keep pics of myself because, well, I just don't, so although I knew I had experienced really profound improvement, I was still shocked to see my face one year ago. "Wow" is all I can say. Unfortunately for me, I had accumulated a few new smaller scars over the past few months (due to picking, not to acne) which were not quite healed yet, so my skin was not looking as good as it had been--I really wanted to show them both how great my skin looked as of about April (minus the new scars), but even through the new ones, they could both see the great improvement. Actually, I was quite worried about the new scars and whether they would interfere with the dermabrasion. Some were actually just a week old, which, even for Dr. Y's method of early scar intervention, is bit young. But, he just said that he'd go light over those areas and that they may re-open, and that may look worse at first, but that they too would gradually fill back in. That did happen--the really new scars did unearth to a certain extent, and Cassandra assured me not to freak out about them because they did indeed look quite a bit worse, but I trust both of them so much, that I really (to my surprise) didn't obsess or freak out about them too much. Now I can already see that they are filling in nicely.

Otherwise, I am definitely healing faster from this derm than from the last. I didn't swell or ooze as much, I wasn't as tired after it, and my skin seems to be re-epithelializing (is that the right word?) much faster than the last time (except for the few smaller new scars). I don't know if he didn't have to go as deep (my bigger, surgical scars were so much shallower that I just think he didn't need to penetrate quite so much), or what, but I also think my attitude has a lot to do with it. I was so much more confident this time and I knew what to expect and that made all of the difference. Anyway, that's all I'll say for now, but will update later. I'm trying to give myself some distance from this board for mental health reasons, so forgive me if I don't update as often, but I'll do my best.

Best to everyone,

Hey Leo:

Welcome back from your dermabrasion. Hope you are doing well. I'm happy to hear that the 2nd one was easier than the 1st. Sounds likes Dr. Y is solidly booked for dermabrasions all summer. I hope to go back in the fall for #2.

Later

Wondering what type of skin tone are you, and whether or not you can see the demarcation between your jawline and neck. I am approx. 5 months post derm (Also had my derm with Dr. Y), I am Type IV skin tone. Information will be very much appreciative.

Thank you,

Just wondering how everyone's results have been faring.

I had my derm with Dr. Y in March so I am at the six month mark. I have been very pleased with my results.

Hi,

I had my dermabrasion with Dr. Y in July... now 2 months. I really feel that it did more damage than good. Maybe too early to tell but I'm having severe hyperpigmentation that even heavy concealer makeup cannot cover. My jawline color does not match my neck whatsoever... which was expected because the new skin has not seen sunlight yet.

I'm hoping that as a few more months pass, the coloration will improve. As of this moment, I am NOT pleased with the results... extra scarring, enlarged pores, dark patches of skin, jawline terrible looking, all in all, I had pretty good texture and minimal scarring before this procedure!

My own greed has led me to this awful situation!!

Hi, HopefulSkin

Similar to what you discribe I have too, Extra scarring due to new breakouts, and of course jawline (Demarcation line). I been using some the herbal methods in preventing new breakouts. I use Lemon juice and Olive oil been working OK, minimum breakouts (Small Acne) vs. big zits. I also started seeing an accupuncturest, becuase since I had Dermabrasion from Dr. Y I been getting Cystic acne on my neck, So far it has helped me heal quicker. The Accupuncturest said she had clients who had worst acne than me come in and clear up. I'm going on my second week hopefully, my anxiety and stress level goes down. The skin tone being different is really givng me a bummer and I ahve been post dermabrasion almost 5 months. Hope things work out.

Can you guys describe what the demarcation line is? Is it difference in color or color and texture or is it even a difference in elevation?

Not sure a summary will help. Dr. Yarborough no longer does dermabrasion
