Love, I posted a separate thread about this but I probably should have put it here...
First, his punch floating...can it be done with smaller shallow scars(not icepick) but small boxcar scars or pock marks?
After healing from punch method...is this permanent?
Then you would spot treat with dermabrasion to smooth everything. If after being dermabraded...and there are any fine little lines from where the dermabrasion stopped...can that be smoothed out with micro-dermabrasion?
Thank you !
Emma: I took it to mean width. I have some very small icepicks on my cheeks that don't really bother me but I hadn't heard about punch floats and Dr. Y had never mentioned them so I was curious and asked. The scar must be at least 1 mm b/c that's the smallest punch tool he uses. He said I would just have to depend on the dermabrasion to smooth them out. It's still too early for me to tell if there has been any impact on their appearance.
how much does dr. Y charge for punch float??? I have tiny icepick scars about 1mm which look like enlarged pores clustered from the base of my nose. Each cluster of icepick from e/ cheek is about the size of a quarter. I know dermabrasion will not do any good for these icepick so i wanted dr. y to punch float. I also have scars which are clustered on each of my temple like the icepick from the base of my nose and some boxcar. The cluster of scars on my temple is about the size of a dime. I don't mean 1 scar is the size of a quarter but tiny scars group together and when I put a quarter in that area the rest of my skin is ok. does dr. Y perform all the punch float needed in 1 day or do you have to go back and forth?????? I have 4 areas to be treated. Does he do Excision,, subcision, or grafting????
I'm scheduled for full face dermabrasion Dec. 28. with Dr. Y
I have a lot of shallow craters on the hollows of my cheeks. Dr. Y viewed my
photos and told me that I would not need punch floats, but though I would receive significant improvement from dermabrasion. He said he doesn't estimate percentage of improvement, however he thought I would be happy with the outcome.
Kiki, Poe, John Sydney, Annabelle, Monsoon, Waite.....This is a pretty big financial undertaking for me...I have chosen to stay home with my young children, and am always in frugal mode. I have to send my deposit tomorrow, but prior to doing so, I'd really appreciate a quick comment about how things are going for all of you.
Are you happy with your results? Can you quantify the results you received, (ie 50%; 75%; etc.). Do any of you regret the decision?
Thanks a million for your reply and warm blessings to you all!
Kiki, Did you have rolling scars or ice picks, or both? The punch floats were just for your ice picks, not rolling scars, right? According to your pics, your scars look 100% improved. Was that because of swelling or lighting? Any signs of the punch floats, or is that 100% improved?
Love,
How many punch floats did you get? Also, you said the tape covering the floats disintegrated at day 5. I am acne free, by am using topicals to stay that way. After those 5 days, or a week, do you know if it's alright to start the topicals again or is more time needed? Thanks.

Hi everyone,
Sorry for not posting in a bit. I'm currently in Seattle right now, drove all the way here from Indianapolis so I had no access to the internet.. Today marks day 30 for me.. My skin looks okay... it still has lots of scars but the improvement from the dermabrasion is still there.. The only thing bugging me is the discoloration of my skin.. not too much but you can see the darker patches.. I also have some icepicks I would like to have punch-elevated before I have my 2nd dermabrasion done.. Don't get me wrong though, I still am very happy I had this done.. My skin was just really bad before I had it done and now it's okay.. I still think I had at least a 50 % improvement. The thing the bugs me the most are the scars on my nose.. I really don't know how to improve it so I guess that's why I'm still feeling down..
For those of you who are of darker skin and are concerned about the discoloration I mentioned.. it's really not too bad.. I believe it will fade eventually and I am trying to accelerate the fading process so I'm not hopeless about it. I will try to take some pictures soon and post them up so you can see what I'm talking about. I do think that a 2nd dermabrasion(with punch-floats) will totally help me with all my other scars besides my noses'.. So I really have only a little discoloration and some icepicks and boxcars left to fix.. My nose scarring I will do some research on to see what kind of procedures I can do to fix it.. Take care all and good luck to all of you having or thinking of having dermabrasion done
Poe
Wildcard,
Today is my 8th weeks since I have dermabrasion. I have alot of scars as I have mentioned earlier. You ask if I am happy with the result? It's really hard to answer that. In some way I am happy but in some way I expected alot more. Perhaps my skin looks so good in the first 5 week. I was disappointed when the swelling went down. I have most improvement from hypertrophics scars but for shallow scars, it's hard to judge if there is improvement. Even some mild scars on my temple, I dont see any improvement. My mom asked if I see any improvement. I couldnt really answer her honestly and it made me question my decision to spent so much money on this procedure. Im thankful for having my parent who paid for this, but I cant help but feel like a little waste of money esp. my parent work hard for it. I would say my improvement is 30% overall. Am I glad I did it considering how much it cost? No
Moonsoon I am glad you are honest about your feelings regarding dermabrasion. One of the things I always tried to emphasize about dermabrasion was it took me multiple procedures to really see some major results. I remember after my first dermabrasion feeling the sting of disappointment when some of my scarring returned after the swelling. My doctor did let me know this would happen and I would be looking at more than one dermabrasion. Major scar revision takes a lot of time and in some cases, a lot of money. Hang in there; many of us have been where you are standing. I wish you luck on whatever steps you take in the future.
Do you have any current skin pictures?
Monsoon,
Thanks so much for your honesty. I'm so sorry that you didn't get greater improvement. It is such an expensive procedure, and I'm doing it as a last resort. If it doesn't work, I think I'll put this all behind me and move on. I have tried many other treatments like TCA, 15 microderms, Smoothbeam, topicals, etc...
I'm hoping dermabrasion will yield me significant improvement as Dr. Y stated. Did the doctor give you an idea of how much improvement to expect? It is my
understanding that the collagen remodeling continues for several months, I sure hope this is the case for you. Please keep us updated. Blessings to you.
Wildcard,
the doctor didnt give me the percentage as he mention improvement in one's eyes is all relative. He might think I have a really good improvement while I might disagree.
I didnt really want to write my previous post yet. I thought to myself it's too prematurely to give a conclusion regarding dermabrasion since I knew before hand that collagen will continue to fill up several months after the procedure. Since you, wildcard, asked if I have regrets. I told you my feeling on dermabrasion right now. Perhaps I might not be so disappointed if it's cheaper. I really wanted to have this one procedure where I can have a result I can live with. I didnt want perfection but enough so it (my scars) doesnt bother me. I thought all the appraisal around Dr. Yarborough would guarantee me this realistic result. It hasnt reach my expectation. I have to wait at least a year to see my final stand on dermabrasion. All in all, my view might or might not remain the same one year from now.
Right now Im currently a student so money is a factor. However, if I see myself down the road where money isnt a factor anymore, and no better treatment is available, I would do it again.
Hmmm. Thanks for your honesty, Monsoon. Remember, though, that dermabrasion also involves a lot of collagen remodeling after the initial procedure, and after the re-epithelialization. I think things will improve... It did take a while for my smoothbeams to take effect. (and yes, I know the non-ablative lasers are quite differenent from all this).
Meet Pete,
How did you feel overall about dermabrasion. Did you feel the improvements were significant enough to make the process and downtime worthwhile? What % improvement did you see after your first dermabrasion (I realize this is a very subjective question)..., but I'm curious anyway.
I did find that smoothbeam worked for me, however I feel that I'm not going to see the same result as with dermabrasion. I need an overall resurfacing to smooth out the dents in my face. Did you think dermabrasion helped with shallow scarring?
