Poe, KiKi, JohnSydney, Misty and others who have had dermabrasion have you seen any "tightening" of your skin at all? the opposite?
I can't tell if my skin is saggy, or jsut being pulled to look saggy by all the scarring, or if the collagen is just gone due to many years of horrible cystic acne. From Poe's remarks, it seems that maybe there is some intial tightening but it fades with swelling?
Here's a link to Pete's experience with dermabrasion and other modalities.
portlandboy23,
I know how you feel. I had two cysts when I was younger on one side of my face. Now, at 28, that side of my face appears to be sagging and I hate it. The rolling scars also give it a sagging appearance.
The other side of my face was not subject to the cysts and it looks nice and firm even with the mild scarring that I do have in that area.
I am hoping that dermabrasion will help with the rolling scars and the scars left by the two cysts. If it does not, then I am going to try fillers, which a doctor actually recommended. But I want dermabrasion first to help with my scarring which looks a little bit similar to POEs.
I am glad to know that I am not the only one who feels that way about the sagging appearance of scars. I plan to get dermabrasion in March with Dr. Y. I can't wait.
Well i'm guessing results depend on the severity of the scars and the person performing the procedure. I have taken some pictures that i will be sending him and then posting here so you guys have an idea of my scars, i have one rolling on the right side of my face but on the left some shallow boxcars, i mean when i do a TCA peel the dissapear almost completely so that gives you an idea, i know that in my case dermabration will yield the results i expect as in Kiki's results for example i saw the before pics from the punch floats and her scars were not that bad, that's why she got the results she got.
I agree with animegirle, for those with severe or moderate scarring this is not a one shot thing, it takes more than one time like her experience.
I'm not trying to convince anyone of doing this, i am still not sure myself, but we all know there is no miracle cure for anything in life, why should scars be any different.
Keep your hopes high and set your priorities, then you will know what to do.
-cheers

Hi Everybody,
I just wanted to say that I am seeing Dr. Y on Nov. 22nd and have scheduled a dermabrasion for Dec. 13th.
It will be a 14 hour drive for me or I might take some other form of transportation, but I am hoping it will be worth it.
I am kind of anxious, excited, worried, and hopeful.
If anyone will be in New Orleans at the same time, please let me know. It would be so nice to hang out with someone who can understand and relate
Good luck everyone!

Poe, and the rest :
How are you?
May I ask about elaborating on the hyperpigmentation? We both have asian skin and I want to know if the dark areas are really noticeable. Are they? Are they scattered too? Does it cover a large area much like a big birthmark? Dr Y says it'll last for 4 months right? What could we do to let them fade fast?
dolmal,
I cant really answer that. In some area, it's too splotchy so it make it worst than before. In other area, it's better. I think if all the splotchiness go away, it will a big improvement in skintone.
falnhart,
The pix is @ week 5. I'm at week 8. The swelling has gone down alot! I post that pix because thats the most recent taken I have at the moment and I want to answer, dolmal, or any Asian question on how red their face after dermabrasion. That pix it's not intended to capture the severity of my scars as it's still swelling. I would love if thats the permanent result I have. Sadly, some scars return just as severe as before.
GoldRex,
He did TCA peel. I'm not sure how strong it's. I'm sure u can find the info from love or poe post. It's still now noticable what area is dermabed and whats not.
I don't get it,
Is it bc the dermabrasion didn't go deep enough that the scars are still the same? Or maybe if the doc cannot go deep enough to actually wipe out a scar entirely it heals back to the scar.
Moonsoon,
how bad were/are your scars from severity to mild? From your before pic it just looked like you had hypertrophic scars, you know the ones that are raised and not a lot of indents. Would you consider doing dermabrasion again? Or go for something else?
Even though I am already schedualed for dermabrasion with Dr. Y, I just want to be able to heal correctly bc I may not have a lot of healing time and maybe this won't be the right time for me. I hope Dr. Y will be around a few more years for everyone.
I am considering more smoothbeam treatments before doing dermabrasion but I definatley want dermabrasion to be the last thing for my face treatment. Smoothbeam has helped with some scars look smaller but I end up breaking out dramatically afterwards. It is either look red for a couple of months or have acne!!
Moonsoon, your skin looks much smoother. Hope the splotchiness will go soon. The collagen repairment will kick in later on. At that time, some scars will be re-filled. Thanks a lot for posting the picture. It takes a lot of courages. It definitely helps me and many people surfing in this forum.

Hello,
Well, I jumped on the bandwagon and scheduled an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Y. I am sorta bummed out, though, because the next available appointment was early to mid October. I wish now that I hadn't procrastinated in calling! I had no idea it would be such a wait! Everyone here seems to have scheduled both an appointment for a consultation AND a dermabrasion and/or punch floats at the same time they call. How is that possible unless Dr. Y has had a chance to assess your skin? After being put on hold for over 5 minutes, the receptionist finally returned and asked what my consultation would be in reference to? I stated simply "about possibly having dermabrasion," and she was like, "With Dr. Y?" To which I replied, "yes," of course. I'm guessing that Dr. Y shares an office with another doc who performs dermabrasion?
Anyhow, my concern is, should I have scheduled an appointment to have a dermabrasion right then and there? I have a myriad of ice pick scars, so I shall definitely require punch floats as well - which, I know, should precede the dermabrasion. What to do? What to do? I am stressing out like now nobody's business. I mean, once I see him, there may not be any available appointments to have these procedures until next year! I'm in grad school, so my schedule is not at all flexible Aaaoe only holidays and such. How long until, once you had your consultation, were you able to schedule surgery? Please, any information you can provide would be enormously appreciated! TIA for your time!
^ Hi there,
I scheduled my consult with Dr. Y at the same time I was having the punch float procedure. I knew that I would need the punch floats to treat my ice pick scarring. I also scheduled my dermabrasion for 3 weeks post float, so everything would be locked into his schedule. He does book up rather quickly! Good Luck.
hiya confetti! i actually having scheduled my dermabrasion, but i have scheduled my punch floats. i wouldnt worry about not scheduling them at the same time. dr Y knows the importance of dermabrading freshly floated/excised skin. i feel sure he will make sure u get an appointment in the 3-6 week time frame. hope that helps
Misty and SadCaroline,
Thank you guys so much for your replies! I truly appreciate it! Well, in my state of panic, I telephoned Dr. Y's office again (Just for the record, those guys are short staffed! I was put on hold five times!) and scheduled dates for both my punch floats and dermabrasion. The receptionist (Stephanie, I believe was her name) stated that I had to have my dermabrasion 4-6 weeks after the punch floats Å as opposed to a minimum of 3 weeks which I've often read here? Do you think 3 weeks would be more effective? I scheduled my dermabrasion for about 4 weeks after my punch floats. Sorry, I must sound like a total nutcase...ha ha. I've just been so terribly stressed out about this stuff lately. To top it off, the receptionist stated that I would have to mail them a $2,000 down payment on the double, so as to reserve my spot. Is this normal? So far in advance?
Another concern is, what if once I consult with Dr. Y, he determines that, instead of (or in addition to) punch floats, I actually require subcision or something else. I have a myriad of ice picks, but another scar on my cheek (not ice pick) is so massive, that subcision may have to be performed. I guess it's this whole pre-maturity aspect that's driving me nuts. I mean, at least I have these two dates booked Å regardless of what will be done Å right? Okay, "Breathe in, breathe out..."
