I must be stupid..But I dont understand how the hell one gets the needle out??? I have bought the BD micro fine 5mm. Anybody?
I took me a while to figure it out too!
If you look inside the rim, theres actually 2 pieces of plastic. I use a knife to seperate and lift the inside plastic out. The needle that you use on your face is actually on the other side, protected by the purple plastic piece. It's easy once you get used to it.
Hope that makes sense.

you can also use tweezers and pull it out holding onto the needle with the tweezers..
Lemarr - you mentioned how you used to have AMVC ... How did you stop this scaring ? i think i might have it and im getting worried now. Do you think Terproline will prevent the scars from forming .. or make it worse .. im thinkin about buying it. I think you also mentioned how Omega 3 might be the cause ... the thing is i have never supplemented with Omeage 3 or Vit A and i have only taken around 40mg in total or accutane (5mg a day for like 8 days then stoped) in my life around 1 and half years ago. I woke up this morning with a red mark about 1 cm long and few mm wide, it looks depressed from certain angles so im thinking this is spontanoues scaring.
Okay, I read this entire thread plus some others. I have a couple scars (shallow, rolling, about a cm in diameter) on my cheeks that I intend to treat (needling). I still have acne, but it is completely under control via my retinoid and light therapy. Would it be okay to treat these two scars now, or should this treatment really only be used after one has outgrown acne? I'd like to get rid of these couple scars now rather than 5-8 years down the road (I'm assuming I'll outgrow acne by then).
If I did pursue treatment, I assume I could use my retinoid on the treated areas starting maybe 2-3 days after treatment? Also, I assume I could use my retinoid epiduo (contains benzoyl peroxide) in combination with the terprolene as long as I alternated applying them every 12 hours?
Thank you.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you *might* never outgrow your acne. There are many adults of all ages that still have acne long after most people typically stop getting it... I would say treat it now - newer scar tissue is easier to heal than old scar tissue. Good luck!
Okay, I think I'm going to go through with it, tackling my worst scar first. A few questions though:
1.) Is bactroban applied to the treated area the first night only? Are any disinfection techniques used after the first night of treatment?
2.) Should I apply zinc oxide sunblock over the treated area the first morning after, or will this cause irritation?
3.) Is it okay to apply a retinoid (epiduo - contains benzoyl peroxide) to the treated area 12 hours after needling?
Thanks for the help!
Hi, is it ok to use dermaroller if you dont have deep scaring? I'm not sure what my scarring is called but i have hyperpigmentation and some minor indentaions that aren't a big deal. How do I prevent it from making my indentaions worse? because i heard from some ppl it made theirs worse.
I mainy just want to get rid of acne spots that are like these red spots all over my face form having acne but im hesitant because i do have mild indentations so i dont want to create a problem.
Can you give me advice?
for most people, dermarolling either improves their scars or has no affect whatsoever. Some claim that their scars ended up worst from needling/dermarolling. everyone skin heals/react differently from dermarolling and other scar treatments so its hard to say.
if you really want to see how your skin reacts, i suggest doing a 'test spot' somewhere where its not really noticeable and small to see how your skin reacts. good luck.
.5 is good for hyperpigmentation and red marks, but in my opinion, retin-a is even better.
yes, you pretty much just insert the needle into the skin-however long the needle length is.
if your scarring is mild, i really suggest retin A or AHA 10% lotion (alpha hydroxy acid). those two work wonders for red marks and hyperpigmentation.
I'm scared to put harmful chemicals on my skin since it would get absorbed into my system (even if its only trace amount) It took me a long time of being a raw vegan to clear lots of toxins out of my ststem.
But i will research about retin A for my red marks.
Does dermarolling help with pore size?? i have open pores and if it can make deep scarring go away it can make open/scarred pores go away too right?

Hey yvonnelilly, good to see another raw vegan here!
I am looking at possibly dermarolling in the near future as well. From what I have read it can help diminish large scarred pores (I have these as well).
As far as topicals, I feel the same way that you do...I won't use chemicals of any kind on my face, which includes retin-a. You might want to look into Rosehip Seed Oil - it contains a natural, gentle form of tretinoin (retin-a) and has pretty good research behind it to back up it's use to treat hyperpigmentation and scarring. You can find it organically grown from many sources, and it's inexpensive. Also you might want to look into MSM lotions as well which can be great for healing scars and red marks...
Good luck!
yvonne,
I have no personal experience from using a dermaroller, just self needling. But you should try a test spot with the dermaroller before embarking on your whole face. It is from my understanding that the dermaroller will not harm healthy tissue, AS LONG AS the needle length is very short, and the frequency at which you roll is spaced out, i.e. not every day, and not even every single week perhaps.
About chemicals, I agree with you. We do not know the effects of puncturing the skin and then applying chemicals that were originally not meant to be placed over open skin. In the long run, we don't know what those effects could entail. Though I am sure there are some that are safer. I just stick with simple vitamin c and aloe vera. But I haven't researched this enough either.
Retin-A should definitely not be placed over your skin right after dermarolling. Retin-A does quite a lot of things on the top of your skin on its own. It makes you more prone to scarring as well, at least for myself and many many other people. It is actually what caused much of my scarring. But not everyone is the same.
forgive me I haven't read all of this thread, so I'm not sure if this is mentioned elsewhere....
but why are people recommending 5-10 minutes?
after a little bit of research I can't find anyone who recommends 5-10 minutes. From my research I have found that generally 20-60 minutes is advised.
[Removed]
this study states 40 minutes provides quicker and better results than 20 minutes.
Could anyone explain the procedure step by step? I am a little lost.
I do not have time going through all the posts now, anyone here at acne.org that follow 'lamars' tips, and saw result?
Lastly, where can this all be ordered from?
Please take time to answer my questions, since this really looked like it could help me, and that would mean the world to me. I am willing to invest money into this.
I am little worried about all the creams that needs to be applied? Since couldn't that aggrevate acne?
If I was to order a dermaroller would this be correct one? - http://www.dr-roller.eu/dermarollers/15mm-...-dr-roller.html
Is EMLA necessary or will it hurt too much without? Can the cream cause acne or irritation to the skin?
Could I just have the dermaroller in a bowl of normal ispropyl alcohol 60%?
SHould anything else be applied to the skin before the EMLA or after?
I know you guys encourage the LED screens along, but I wanna try with just the dermaroller.
edit: the topical applied after a dermaroll, is it to prevent outbreak of acne or just to help the skin heal? SInce I took accutane 6 months ago, what topicals do you recommend?
Can someone please post up somewhere to get needles and other equipment required to do the neddling process please?
I would be very careful when doing this ...you risk damaging your skin further.

So what leds are people using?
I ordered a tri setup red, yellow and ir from the led man.
And another tri setup with red,ir and blue from elixa.
I still have active acne, controlled with BP . But im very much a picker and now that im back in college after the summer and sitting at a desk all day, i find my subconscious picking gets way worse.
Will the blue led work or active acne?
