Well making my own educated decision after careful consideration - I decided to purchase the Leds - red/infrared and yellow. The Led man is making them custom for me so that I can get coverage over my entire face in onw sitting since I have a substantial amount of scars scattered on both cheeks, forehead and temple. I had my second self needling session of individual needling on Friday using the diabetic needles and this time I covered a larger area and did the needling more agressively. So for most parts I hit it was actually the 1st time they were needled. I can't wait to receive my led lights to speed up the process. I have to say my family has not been supportive and even said they would be looking for results and if they don't see them they will say I told you so. My family has been very unsupportive ever since I spent $1200.00 on the co2 laser treatment I had almost 10 years ago. I wish I hadn't even told them about the leds and stuff, but it was a substantial investment for me because I needed alot of leds for entire facial coverage so I had to explain the extra expense. Anyway, this just adds a little more pressure to the mix to get results when I really shouldn't have anymore pressure then what is already on me. Well enough venting... I just wanted everyone to know that I think this is a good idea and ultimately I have confidence in Mark Lamar and Erynn's success and based on my own research was already going to do the needling based on many successful stories the LED lights only add a chance for a more positive outcome. At this point I am very hopeful. Oh yeah, I have increased my vitamin C intake to 2-3 grams per day and continue to take vitamins for the skin, hair and nails including biosil - a collegan producer.

Good luck dude, Consider doing some dermarolling aswell to add some skin tightening effects. Be pretty agressive with ur needling!!

do i have to continue rolling on a yearly basis? it's been 7 months now since i first started. i'm going to continue again around april or may for another year. and i might stop after that. is this ok? i understand you dont have to do it on a yearly basis for scars, but if you're doing it for wrinkles then you'd have to.

I make as many puncture wounds in the scar as I can until the scar is swollen and I can know longer make out the scar..hit as much area of the scar with the needle as you can..I see blood when I know I made a proper puncture most of the time. clear it off and continue making puncture all over the scar from top to bottom from side to side..

So i have a half moon like indented scar on my cheek: i just take the Microfine Pen Needles 5mm 31g 100s from this site: http://www.westons.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Pen_Needles_137.html

and insert it into the scar going about 1.5mm to 2mm deep , take the needle back out and just repeat the process over the whole area of the scar? I just have 3 more questions:

1: do you use anaesthetic like the EMLA cream?

2: as long as i do not go deeper than 3mm i cannot do any permanent damage can i? e.g. making the scar deeper.

3: do you insert the needle at an angle or just straight into the scarred area?

This is the LED grow light that i have bought for 12.50 + 10 postage.

They are similar in the nanometer wavelengths at 650nm and if this light isn't helping to improving my scars then it is something else bc they are getting better.

I also have an old Phillips UV/IR sunlamp i bought some 20 years ago for my acne which im using but only the setting for the IR,not the UV setting.

those are the correct needles.. yup, just make as many punctures in the scar going from about 1.5mm to 3mm in depth..these needles puncture the skin very easly because of there size..once you do it you will see its not very hard to do...I put a little alcohol on the area I treat.. no numbing cream for this..going beyond 3mm is when the pain would start..so chances are you would not do this..you wont make any permanent damage unless you really went crazy with the needle which you wont do.. how do I know you wont?? because you are asking alot of questions which means you are not looking to do this incorrectly..have some faith in yourself..you will do fine.. 🙂 you can go in at an angle..I do all of the above..the scar has a center and sides..I needle the center of the scar first and work my way around the scar's sides ect..keep us posted how it goes. being you have one scar you are treating you are a great chance for great success..

Thanks very much for the help. i have ordered the needles. I also have scarred pores on my nose and either 2 very minor ice picks or 2 very deep sets of scarred pores (looks like the nike tick)on my temple. for these type of scars do i just insert the needle into the holes/pores and not the area around it? Also because of the thinness of the skin on the nose and temple in comparison with the cheek do you go not go as deep?

the thin skinned area's like the forehead respond well to lesser depth..I have not treated my nose so I dont want to speak on something I have not done..I treat my scared pores the same way..

Hey everyone I just came across this post and I really like the whole idea of LED's. I even went ahead and bought the red/infared and yellow lights. The whole concept makes sense to me. However I came across a question on Realself.com and the docs on this response really don't think it has much effect on scarring. Why do you guys think that docs don't think to highly of LEDs? Take a look at it.

Lamarr,

Why do you think that most doctors don't think that LED lights are that helpful. Like the above post I put up where someone was wondering if LED lights would help after laser resurfacing. I think the idea of using them makes sense and makes a lot of sense after laser resurfacing as well as needling.

I dont think it really makes your scars look more pitted..just redness which lasts about a week.

Doctors are very stuck in their ways, unless they have clinical evidence of something working they believe it will not work. Plenty of clinics now use light therapy, if you search around people get good results from them. I agree the lights won't do much for pitted scarring on their own btw. It is when you combine them with laser, dermaroller subscission, peels etc that they work as we want them too.

You can't rely on doctors for our 'cosmetic' problems. they just don't give these issues enough concentration and thus lack the know-how.

Lamarr,

How long do you think one should wait after having laser resurfacing done to begin needling scars. I had the Total FX laser done and am wanting to needle the deeper scars when the healing is done. I was thinking to wait 2 -3 months and that would probably be enough for my skin and collagen to be ready for needling. What do you think?

2-3 months should be enough time imo. How are the results from the FX? are you using leds to aid healing?

Yeah I was thinking 2-3 months too. I had the Total FX only a week ago so the results are not something I can see yet. I had the Fraxel Re:Pair done back in summer with so so results. I wanted to give the Total FX a try, the way the laser penetrates is different than the Re:Pair and being that Lumenis is the pioneer of co2 laser, I thought I'd try it out. After this I am done with lasers for my scars. I am going to try out your idea of needling and led lights, I hope it helps. I just have a few deeper rolling scars that really bother me. I am currently using the led lights after my laser treatments to help out, I use them at night.

hey just thought i'd let everyone know i began derma rolling about 2 months ago and i'm on my 2nd session and i just got the lightstim anti aging light for my 2nd treatment and its very powerful! it has red/infrared and amber lights so it has the whole package and i've been hearinga lot of good results from people so thats why i got it. I am also using finacea for a topical like retina/terproline morning and night. So i'll let u guys know how my results are in a couple more months or weeks if things improve quickly! the doctor whos professional dermaroling my face said he only needs to do about 3 treatments to see results in 6 months and hes only using a 1mm (but definitely bruises the face and leaves blood spots) and he thinks this is his best treatment he has over all his lasers and such. i just ordered my needles and wondering how often i should needle a scar?

i believe the poster is talking about the anti-aging lightstim, which is popular on the eds forum. i have ledman's red/infra and amber but have considered upgrading to this unit too.

Lamarr,

Hey you may have answered this already, but I'll ask again. You say you have been doing the roller, needling, and LED for over a year. How many times did you have the rolling done? and how many times have you self-needled your scars? If your waiting 2-3 months in between sessions. I was thinking then you probably needled your scars about 6 or so times now.

I have needled most scars individually about 4 times ish. Dermaroller i have had 6 times i think yes. It has been longer than a year now and i've lost track of numbers if i'm honest...

Remember to get small blood clotts (almost liek small blood blisters) when you are doing the dermaroller and needling, i believe that is key to success.

When you expose these small clotts to the light therapy you stimulate the stem cells which have been recruited. These are what re model the scar.
