whoever said to only ice pimples can.. go jump off a cliff. i was never able to stop the clear ooze that came out of popped pimples until i tried a hot towel over it. icing it for a longer time did nothing.
ugh.
i have these weird pin sized pimples on my chin all trickling down which is kinda funny. they were on the verge of popping on their own or did so i had to finish it up. i hate popping pimples and rarely do it. i think those are from blankets hitting my face which happens a lot.
i'm cutting nuts and eggs out of my diet. oh and i lost 6 pounds. bad thing is i'm the last person who needs to lose weight. i'm now 117 and 5'7''. gross.
i'm just not hungry anymore.
something must be up because i don't have the urge to bite my nails. last time that happened i was clear for a long time. maybe it's a sign.
http://drbenkim.com/articles-acne.html
this is basically what i follow. if you search acne on the site it has more info.
1. Avoid the worst triggers of acne; pasteurized dairy products, fried and deep-fried foods, hydrogenated oils, sugar, salty snacks, preservatives like sulphates, and highly processed foods that contain gluten.
2. Eat mainly whole, unprocessed foods, with vegetables making up at least 50% of the total volume of your diet. Specifics of your ideal diet depend on a variety of factors, including your body type, ethnic background, health history, and current health status.
3. Ensure regular intake of healthy foods that contain vitamin A.
4. Get enough sleep to feel refreshed when you wake up. It is during deep, restful sleep that your body is able to most efficiently repair damaged skin.
5. Do not rub your acne with abrasive towels or loofahs. Aggressively rubbing your acne can cause the underlying infection to spread, which can result in new spots. Sometimes, abrasive rubbing can create enough irritation to cause an infection that leads to acne. Instead of rubbing your face dry after washing, make it a habit to pat dry or even air dry.
6. Use as little soap and make-up as possible. Using soap on a daily basis is only necessary if you work with gas, coal, or oil. For most people who donat wear make up, washing with cold water is enough to have clean and healthy skin. Washing with only cold water is what people have done through most of world history.
*i didn't know that. then i wouldn't be using any faces to tackle my acne? that's hard.
7. If your weather allows, expose your skin to sunshine each day, even if itas for a few minutes. Just be sure not to burn yourself. Natural sunlight has remarkable healing and recuperative powers for your skin.
8. Consider taking a high quality probiotic. Having lots of good bacteria living in your intestines will provide protection against toxins that can contribute to acne formation. Lots of good bacteria in your intestines is also helpful for your immune system, which plays a significant role in maintaining healthy skin.
9. If you are not seeing changes as quickly as you would like, consider doing a short water or juice fast, which can accelerate healing of your skin.

the big breakout i had at thanksgiving is finally going down. they all get big heads on them which then pop on their own and and get scabby trying to heal. i can't put neosporin on it because it contains white petroleum and that always makes a new pimple for me. grr.
i also don't know why i had these little pin sized zits covering my chin. they were painful.
by the way, i weighed myself and i'm 115. UGH
i tried out my glycolic peel 30% on the sides of my chin where i normally break out. it barely stung but i still took it off 30 seconds later. after a couple hours the pinkness went down and it's just dry and flaky as if i didn't use any lotion. not sure if i'll break out.. i hope i don't.
my skin has cleared up almost. maybe that huge healing pimple, one in the creases of my chin and on the tip of my chin.
no eggs or nuts this week. i did buy chicken for the first time i months and trying bear naked granola
Is Bear NakedAA gluten-free?
Based on numerous studies in the last several years, research shows that oats do not appear to be harmful to persons with gluten intolerance. The offending cereals that must be avoided are wheat, rye, barley and their derivative cereals.
Bear NakedAA Fruit & Nut is gluten- and wheat-free. However, Bear NakedAA Peak Protein, Bear NakedAA Banana Nut and Bear NakedAA Apple Cinnamon contain crisp rice, which is made from rice and barley malt. Since barley contains gluten, these products are not gluten-free.
yay because i bought fruit and nut.
i really want to start 2009 with lessend red marks.
jojoba oil works nicely. seban pads are coming in the mail. that's tricky thing with makeup. stop the oil and have some what dry skin on those parts or have an oil slick? i'll see.
FYI CHECK THE FIRST PAGE AND ENTRY FOR MY REGIMEN.
wow. everywhere i put the chemical peel is where i am horribly breaking out. typical. i knew that would happen and i even read about it. ugh. i wouldn't care as much if they weren't throbbing and painful even when i'm not touching them!
i am going to try a water and apple fast. if i can last one day that is...
i have noticed that i can go days without water which surely isn't good for my skin and body at all. greattt
i loveeeeee ice. icing my pimples helps a lot. not sure how long it takes out the redness but while it lasts i feel so much better.
again i am feeling lost on what to do. you'd think after 6 pages i would!
i'm starting to realize that maybe i should watch the doses of my vitamins because i'm sure i take TOO much. i had started feeling sick and getting headaches for a couple days and when i lowered my vitamins i felt a lot better especially with vitamin C.
vitamins also add up in cost which i hate.
i think the main vitamins i will continue to take are zinc and vitamin a. i get enough flaxseed from my perky o's cereal. if i can find a better way or brand of vitamin c i might start that up again.
i'm thinking of starting up turmeric also. i stopped it once i went through the bottles fast and they were too much money in the end. i might just buy a big bag of it online. not sure how it tastes! ha.
trying to stay positive by saying that i only have 17 pimples on my face right now. woo..
idk but i feel a little better knowing that a product is the reason i am breaking out and not something i can control anymore.

aw 🙁 it's really tricky, figuring out which products, supplements foods etc are problematic. I'm a big believer in the fewer the supplements the better. vitamin a and zinc are probably good bets. I think if you eat at least a couple of servings of fruit per day you will get your vitamin c. As for tumeric, I don't have any experience with it as a supplement. Why don't you try adding it to your foods. It has a nice flavor that goes well with stir fry.
Also I know that you want to go all natural, but have you considered topicals? I find that I need both topicals and to avoid dairy. Maaaaybe if i went on a really strict diet I wouldn't need the topicals, but it makes life a little easier. I like azelex (this is actually pretty natural, but found in wheat so if you need to avoid gluten it might be a problem...but are you sure you need to avoid gluten? It doesn't effect me--I've tried not having it for a couple of weeks) and clenia (less natural, sulfur based cream, but is very effective, at least for me).
Also, I can't be sure, but I think that drinking lemon water also helps. Ideally you'd drink 1/4-1/2 a lemon's juice in warm water with honey if you like in the morning before eating anything. However, I think it's ok to drink it whenever. right now i've been clear for a while, but i do have small breakouts each month and drinking the lemon water seemed to prevent it last month.
Also, even though I love to try new products, I often find that they cause problems. I think once you find a good routine it's best to stick to it and avoid the temptation. I'm always looking for new things for hyperpigmentation/uneven skin tone/scarring, but i usually end up paying for it when it try something new. I'd really like to find a good peel that doesn't irritate my skin or make me break out, i'll let you know if i find something good. good luck!
well, i'm not completely natural. that's more of my diet i guess. yes, i use BP on the pimples. sometimes honey and cinnamon. otherwise i don't use much else like SA because it burns me bad!
i actually never got an allergy test to see if i am allergic to gluten. i have just read a lot of articles on how gluten is an inflammatory not just for celiacs. i think my main problem are dairy, sugar and my panic attacks/stress but i like sticking to gluten free because the food tends to be more healthier.
i will try the lemon water. i'm also looking for hyperpigmentation help. that's the reason i am dealing with this current breakout from the chemical peel! ugh.
the pimples on my chin have gone away. of course there are still pimples. a new pimple i have i haven't put any BP on it and surprisingly isn't badly inflamed or painful which would happen a night after dabbing it.
i still have pimples in the crease of my chin which is annoying because they aren't coming to head.
i am going to try and avoid the microwave as much as possible. i use it to heat up vegetables and beans. guess i should switch over to a stove.
wow, i must say my PMS only lasted like one day. pms for me lasts a week and i feel completely depressed and.. not a pretty picture. for the past couple of months it was always hard controlling it since my birth control was messing up.
the texture of my skin is not doing so well for my standards. that chemical peel break out really messed me up and added so many red marks.
my dad is finally realizing that i will NOT eat junk food. i don't look down at him at all for his choices. in his line of work he's on the run and surrounded by fast food all day. so when he was trying to convince me that the fish fillets from mcdonalds are healthy, i only could cringe. i then looked up the ingredients online and if it was made at a restaurant freshly made it might be a different story.
i thought taco bell could maybe be a little bit healthier but i was wrong.
you can find the ingredients on their webpages. sorry, i don't feel like i should be eating something that contains an ANTI-FOAMING AGENT in it lol.
Fish Filet Patty: Pollock or Hoki, bleached wheat flour, water, modified corn starch, yellow corn flour, dextrose, salt, yeast, cellulose gum, natural flavoring (vegetable source). Cooked in partially hydrogenated vegetable oils, (may contain partially hydrogenated soybean oil and/or partially hydrogenated corn oil and/or partially hydrogenated canola oil and/or cottonseed oil and/or sunflower oil and/or corn oil). TBHQ and citric acid added to help preserve freshness. Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an anti-foaming agent.
just gross.
anyways,
yesterday i start drinking lemon water twice a day [always through a straw!]. i started my apple fast today also. i'm only going to do it for 3 days. i sleep with honey masks mixed with cinnamon including using lemon as an astringent. for dead skin i use honey mixed with sugar. after that comment bran88 made about topicals sparked something in me.
i haven't used bp for two nights and my pimples don't look as inflamed as they would be. i'll see how long i can keep it up.
why does dr. perricone say honey is bad to eat? is it because of the sugar? there are so many sites saying you should eat it!
i will be missing out on eating my weight in snacks and cookies this christmas like i see everyone else do, especially with those commercials they slap on the tv! haha, it almost convinced me to buy the panormeous pizza from pizza hut and ghiardela (sp) chocolate!
i did buy gluten free baking flour and will make cookies again like i have a couple weeks ago and dind't notice any flare ups. i'm going to make them without eggs and using apple sauce as a sub.
hopefully that works.
those cookies are so bland but since i'm the only one eating them it doesn't bother me. it's just soy milk, gluten free baking flour, apple sauce, brown sugar, cinnamon. i have cranberries so maybe i'll sneak a couple in there and see if it changes the taste.
if my phones starts to work , i can schedule an appointment and see if they can do blood tests on me.

hmm yeah i think people are anti-honey because of the sugar. Also there's an alkalizing/acidifying camp that says all sugars/honey are acidifying and that we should stay away from them for that reason since people are generally too acidic. Lemon and citrus and ACV for that matter are (counterintuitively) alkalizing. I have to admit that I have plenty of sugar in my diet, most of it is in the form of fruits, and I don't think it causes problems. Honey has a lot of health benefits (the darker the better). I'm not sure if this is true, but I've read that honey diluted in water acts as a potent antibacterial and antifungal (similar to garlic) and that for some reason diluting it in water makes it much more potent. I guess it kind of makes sense since honey applied topically is antibacterial. I also love honey masks by the way!
I'm glad you're trying the lemon water, keep us updated!

oh ok, this honey from full circle organic says 16 g. i'll be sure to look that up on acid.

I think having some honey is totally fine, but that's just my opinion. i'm pretty loose with my diet.
i ended my apple fast today. i started on monday morning and ending this evening because i was not going to starve on christmas eve! plus i was getting too weak and twitching a little like a crack addict from lack of real food.
i ate a gluten/flour free tortilla with salt free tomato sauce + rice cheese on top + kidney beans. i put that in the oven to get crispy and it was yummy.
i also ate a couple cookies i made. i actually made a big batch for christmas. it has: gluten free baking flour, apples (to sub eggs), soy milk, vanilla extract, smart butter, cinnamon, some honey, a little bit of brown sugar.
they aren't they great but some batches i put cranberries with the apples and organic dark chocolate.
it saddens me dark chocolate even organic 70% doesn't agree with my body. i ate a serving size yesterday and felt gross the rest of the day. i wonder if i'll break out from it.
oh and on this apple fast i didn't have a bowel movement. is that supposed to mean i didn't eat enough? i thought apples had "sooo" much fiber i'd be exploding lol. plus i drank a lot of water.
idk.
it weird how much water i can chug down now. i probably go through a gallon a day but i cut it in half because the grocery store isn't around the block to buy the water.
PICS
NOV 28 BEFORE CHEMICAL PEEL
that pisses me the hell off.
makeup after peel
never said makeup looked any better
and i can thank that chemical peel for EACH of those pimples. the ones on my chin are gone though.
yeah, that was sunday before i left and didn't have any time to redo it. very gross on hi-res. my makeup was doing some weird cakey thing. maybe it is the jojoba oil.
mineral makeup is NOT my friend. i always think liquid might cover better but i can never find one that has good ingredients in it AND yellow undertones.
UGH! this bread is disgusting. i am pissed off that i paid money for something that taste so stale and dry. at the grocery store that was the only bread left. i guess yeast is in bread for a reason .
grilled cheese sandwiches probably aren't a healthy meal to begin with even with rice cheese and smart butter. they surely don't taste the same as when i was a kid with real cheese, real butter and white bread.
i miss dairy. but i've always been lactose intolerant so it's not the same as being on a gluten free diet because i've never noticed any stomach problems with gluten.
i do have a couple new pimples. that's the thing with honey. it doesn't dry the zits out or really do much then calm it.
i think i know how to gain weight.
brown rice.
i googled it and it said it would help. good thing my palette is so bland that i think brown rice and smart butter actually tastes good.
some say brown rice is high GI but some say low or medium. if i don't break out in cystic acne then i'll keep it in my diet.
i haven't had an actual big pimple on my forehead in a long time. it's a rare thing but i know when i've over exfoliate i get these tiny little dots/blackheads on there. it normally goes away in a day or two.
my skin is looking better. i have a pimple on my chin still and pimples in the crevasse of my chin which are deep and don't think they'll come to head. i don't think you can notice them though.
i don't really wash my face anymore. it's more of using a cotton ball and rubbing the BP off from the night before and putting lemon water over it. then spot treating the oil during the day with rose water or more lemons.
-bp
-lemon
-aloe vera gel
-rose water
-zinc, a, b, e, chromium, probiotic
-drinking lemon water
i have maybe 2 big pimples left. phew. however my skin tone looks really dull and flaky. it also has more of those little dots which look horrible under makeup. it still is covering all my forehead and cheeks. very weird. i still believe it's from the over exfoliating because that's what happened before but just on my forehead. guess even honey and sugar is too rough for my skin! i haven't gotten any explosion from the dark chocolate and all that gluten free flour i used in my cookies i had on christmas. i swear i ate like 35 little cookies.
i'm going to start the apple fast again. DUN DUN DUN.
i think i'll be okay though. this time i bought 20 apples [same price for 10 apples like i did before but these are smaller so that's the only draw back]
this is what my shopping list consists of:
gluten free bread
rice cheese slices
gluten and wheat free tortillas
salt free tomato sauce
beans [the cheaper ones have sodium and goo all over it which i sadly buy]
perky o's cereal
soy milk
kiwis
apples
lemons
broccoli
green beans
water
quinoa pasta
brown rice
i'm thinking about making my own mayo for the first time. it supposedly takes:
1 egg
lemon juice
2 teaspoons of dijon mustard
salt and pepper
1 cup of extra virgin olive oil
i used to be in LOVE with miracle whip. it was sickening lol. when i was in grade school i would eat PLAIN miracle whip sandwiches with nothing else on it.
it sent a dagger through my heart reading high fructose corn syrup and other gross stuff on the label last time i checked it out.
i'm not a salad person. it's a shame. i would normally drench my salads in french dressing in order to get it down and french dressing has tons of nasty stuff in it too. maybe if i try it with cheese and turkey it'll work. sounds like a sandwich..
oh and i also bought green tea. i stopped drinking tea because i just didn't like it. this tea however has caffeine. so i'm a little weary.
finally, i'm almost clear after that chemical peel break out. i do have a giant pimple that turned into a cyst on my chin but that has gone down overnight. i also have another somewhat smaller pimple by my chin on my other side but it just popped so it'll be done.
the bumps on my forehead are going away with BP thankfully.
today will be the third and final day of my apple fast. well, i eat brown rice also with it because i feel gross eating all that sugar per meal. there are brown rice fasts online.
nothing like starting out 2009 with food after a fast haha.
speaking of time.. i started looking at this site in january 2008. a year has passed and i have grown so much in terms of acne like my diet, what i use on my skin and how to deal with red marks.
i got my air filter in the mail today . it's been running for a couple hours now. i can't tell if the air is any cleaner or smells different. in the morning when sunlight comes through my window i'll be able to tell because there is normally TONS of nasty "sparkles" in the air which is dead skin, dander, dust, etc.
my weight has dropped to 115. that was my weight in high school and was scary skinny. i never realized it though. i realize it now when my jeans don't fit and look laughable on me. also my face is sunken in and i look like death.
still need to get that blood test scheduled and i might be able to start eating more food groups.
this site: http://www.bellaonline.com is my favorite when it comes to learning about nutrition. i printed out like 80% of the nutrition info and put it into a folder i can flip through and check the content of foods. i have the scans of the perricone diet like inflammation food list and safe food list on the front page.
i think i've been living off brown rice and apples for a week now. because it's been awhile it's hard to jump back into my normal diet but hopefully the book i printed helps.
no pimples really. they're mostly healing. however my complexion is rough and dull. not sure how i can fix that with products.
hey jean,
glad to hear you're clearing up As for the dry/dull complexion, it might be the bp or lemon (applied topically). Both are pretty drying. if you're open to trying a new topical, you might want to give azelex (azelaic acid) a shot (it's the cream, not gel form). My skin was incredibly flaky from bp after which i tried all natual products, no standard topicals but I started breaking out. I also tried a toner with lemon balm in it and it made my skin flake again. Finally I switched to azelex and clenia and that works well, no flakes at all. I think you could even do azelex in the morning and bp at night if you want to and think bp is effective for you. the azelex is very moisturizing and good for acne.
so are you getting the ELISA test done? I'd like to do that as well. I'm pretty sure my only bad foods are dairy and nuts but it would be nice to have that confirmed. I think that there must be some high calorie foods out there that you can eat. I got a bit down in weight back when my diet was very restrictive so i just started putting olive oil on everything. i'm not sure if it helped or not if you find you're able to eat gluten, then that should help quite a bit.
I have a question: how long after the peel did you see a breakout? I'm just curious because i just did my first at home peel (40% lactic) yesterday morning. this morning things look fine, but i'm still nervous! hope you continue to do well!

heyy, thanks. yeah, i'm thinking it could be the lemon also. i have these little tiny dots that look sort of like a rash but no itching. must be too aggravated. azelex has to be prescribed? i never even heard of that being suggested by my derm. i'll think about it. my insurance doesn't cover it so i always have to pay $80 co pay!
hm, i'll remind myself to use olive oil more. oh i'm sure my weight would go up if i brought back gluten but that might be a trigger of mine.
thanks for the suggestions.
i broke out maybe two or three days after. it looked completely fine, barely shedding skin and then BAM! don't get nervous, you might make yourself break out by it lol.
yeah azelex is by prescription, but i get mine through my regular doctor not a dermatologist. I'm not sure how much it would cost without insurance though...with insurance I pay $25 for a bottle and it lasts me 3-4 months.
if you're getting little red dots i would try not using the lemon (topically) to see if they go away. I'm not sure how cold it is where you are, but winter is also harsh on the skin so that could be part of it. good luck!
