mike i have said this before. Don't let the water hit your face at all. What i did was wash my body then i would get out of the shower, bend down and hold my head at like a 45 degree angle facing downward so the water would hit the back of my head and my neck and the water would trickle out from the top of my head instead of down my face. Its not that hard to figure out, give it a try.
how's ur current condition looking? u still using water?
im on my 3rd day of this regimen, and so far satisfied. I am hardly flaking so far
I would recommend to anyone doing this to not immediately go from a bp regimen or topical to this. Your gonna have a crap load of flakes if you dont wash a few days after dropping topicals. I am responding fairly well to this because i have spent a week using just gentle cleaner, and moistorizor, then a week of just water, now to this. So basically what im saying is use at least water for a week or so after constantly using topicals or the flakes will be horrible.
i did this like 3 weeks ago on holiday and my skin cleared up really well so all the spots went but i was left with a few red marks so i put sudocrem on it to get rid of them, instead my acne came back. so i started the regimen again (not the hardcore one, just don't wash my face for about 5 to 10 days) and now my face looks like someones asshole but i've heard that this happens on the 10 day mark, has anyone experienced this? when does it go away and what did yours look like?
I'm really thinking about doing this but I have a few questions first.
First of all, I am a 15 year old girl, should I be doing this?
Right now I shower once every other day and then when I do shower I use Lever 2000 bar soap with an exfoliating rag.
I've only been doing that for about two days now.
I'm not really sure if my skin is easily irritated, I have oily skin and lots of blackheads everywhere, a lot of really rint bumps on my forehead, red marks, uneven skin tone, small not really noticable acne scars and every once in a while I get the occasional pimple, and it's not just one, but it comes in about three whenever I do get new breakouts.
But that could just be my period starting and hormones, I mean I am after all a teenager and still growing so do you think that it is wise to do this regimen or should I just stick with the one that I have been doing for the past two days, or should I just start using water and not really care what my face looks like?
These are older pictures of me, about a month old I will try to take better pictures in better lighting in the morning.

On the other hand, these pictures still do not show how bad the blackheads are or the bumps on my forehead, but at least you can see what my cheeks and the red marks look like.
I also have large pores on my cheeks, so I'm guessing they are filled with blackheads as well.
I also have alot of tiny little bumps all along my cheeks, but I'm not really worried about those, although I would like to get rid of them as well as everything else.
I also don't get any breakouts or anything on my jawline.
@ sunshine
im guessing this is your hormonal acne. I don't think doing this regimen will really work for you being that this regimen deals with the overuse of bp over the years and the irritation it causes which leads to acne. Since this is your hormonal phase i suggest trying dan's bp regimen. It worked for me when i was around your age.
If you really think it will work for you then try the no wash regimen its not like your gonna be putting crap all over your face and irritating it more. The thing is you have to stick to this regimen for 2 months which from what i have been reading not a lot of people can take because of the dead skin.
Stop using soap on your face when you wash just use water and don't use a washcloth to exfoliate either. i think the best way to exfoliate is when you get out of the shower and your face is still wet gently rub your face with your fingers in circle motions. Cleansers/soap/washcloths will only irritate your skin which will give you more acne.
Good luck! and btw your face is not bad at all. Your 15 and this is what happens around this age.
I've been on this regimen for three weeks now and although I noticed a slight difference at first, it doesn't seem to be working now.
I eat well, go to the gym a moderate amount and have not washed my face once (!) but my acne doesn't seem to budge.
I enjoy the fact that I don't have to spend 30 mins + a day applying all the products, but this regimen isn't worth it if the spots don't clear.
When did you guys notice a difference?
ps. I've got the driest skin around my chin - this also seems to be the place where I get fewer spots..
How old are ya man???
I started to notice a difference around 2 to 4 weeks into this. My acne would clear up a lot faster and it would be less irritated. I got the best results after i took the dead skin mask off which was about 2 months into the regimen.
im asking how old you are because maybe you are still in your hormonal acne phase? I was getting acne because i was definitely irritating my face much more than i should have been (excessive washing / applying bp).
If you are over the age of 20-21 or maybe even 19 i would say stick with it for another month because you should prob be over your hormonal acne, remove the dead skin mask and see what happens from there. Like i have said before, as for any regimen you have to stick with it for at least 2 months or more. doing this for 3 weeks its just not enough time to see results. Some may get the results in this little time but most of us wont.
The skin needs time to heal itself from all the crap we have been putting on it for years.
hey guys, i have done "water only" method before and it definitely was better than washing it with soap, etc. only reason i stopped was because of the "dead skin mask", which kept piling up and became unbearable. but my face has been horrible recently and i decided to give this another chance. this time i wont let water touch my face, which i havent done before. and if i do ill use cold water never hot. when the dead skin piles up again, ill just take it off gently and continue this regimen.
my face was never a problem until i decided to try a cleanser to wash at age 19 or so. thats when my face started getting red and irritated. i just turned 22 now and i experience redness in cheeks and might have seb derm. however, i noticed my redness disappearing using the water only method.
ive been using jojoba oil for the past 2 days, and yesterday night i washed it off with water in the shower (its not fully washed off i dont think since its thick). today i did not wash my face. should i worry about the jojoba oil on my face? or is it ok to start the "no washing regimen"?
and what do you think about fish oil? i dont take any vitamins but i started taking fish oil as it may help with dry skin.
I had to end it at three weeks because my acne was simply not clearing up at all!
Not only was I getting spots in brand new areas like my forehead and nose but I was getting a lot of whiteheads around my mouth and chin while on this regimen.
I understand that some of you are passionate about this regimen, and I can understand some of the logic behind the argument, but I simply couldn't bear going any further with it.
heres wat i found about acid mantle
Sebum, Sweat, Skin pH and Acid Mantle
Sebum is an oily secretion produced by sebacious glands, tiny ducts adjacent to hair follicles. Sebum is secreted into the follicle, from which it spreads over the hair and skin. The main role of sebum is to waterproof the skin and hair. Both excess and lack of sebum are undesirable. Excess sebum is associated with oily skin and acne. It is particularly common in adolescents as the increased levels of sex hormones stimulate sebum production. Lack of sebum, which is common in middle and older age, leads to skin dryness and accelerates wrinkle formation.
Sweat is a salty, watery solution produced by sweat glands, numerous microscopic channels opening onto the skin surface. As sebum and sweat mix up on the skin surface, they form a protective layer often referred to as the acid mantle . Acid mantle has a particular level of acidity characterized by pH from about 4 to 5.5. A pH of 7 is considered neutral, above 7 is alkaline, and below is acidic. The pH of acid in the human stomach, for example, is usually from 1 to 2, which is highly acidic. The skin, on the other hand, is mildly acidic. In addition to helping protect skin from "the elements" (such as wind or pollutants), acid mantle also inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria and fungi. If acid mantle is disrupted or loses its acidity, the skin becomes more prone to damage and infection. The loss of acid mantle is one of the side-effects of washing the skin with soaps or detergents of moderate or high strength.
i think you should of stuck it out gdog. Same happened for me around the same time. It got a little worse and then it started to get better. Others like me will all tell you that once you get past the first 2 months you will be happy you did this. Yea i get a pimple here and there but it sure beats the heck out of constantly putting crap all over your face.
For others reading these posts and thinking about doing this IT WILL get worse before it gets better and this regimen takes some time. This goes for any regimen even dan's regimen. Its not gonna magically get better in 3 weeks, and at about 4 to 5 weeks into this you will get a ton of dead skin which will discourage you but keep with it. Just think to yourself, its not natural to be putting crap all over your face and taking antibiotics. This is only preventing the inevitable... one day your gonna wanna stop doing these things so your gonna have to go cold turkey and just get off of everything sooner or later. I mean who wants to go into there 30's and even 40's doing these regimens where you can't eat this, have to wash with this, put this on your face twice a day, take this pill once a day. Its just crazy when you think about it.
Sooner the better to stop using all these regimens out there, just go cold turkey and ride it out. If your in your teens then a topical regimen is probably for you because your getting hormonal acne and that means this regimen is not for you. If you are older than 20 or 24 like i am i say it is time to get off topicals and give this regimen a shot.
If you do go through with this regimen for 2 to 3 months and you don't see any change at all and it still is getting worse than maybe this is not for you and you do indeed need a diff type of regimen. but don't give up on this regimen because it didn't work out after 2 to 3 weeks.
i would dab a little bit of moisturizer on the really bad spots and let it soak in, i didn't rub it in cause i was afraid it would take the dead skin mask off. After the moisturizer soaked in it did look a little better.
It was really hard for me having that dead skin mask i know how it is, im constantly getting looked at cause im a bartender.
Once you have had the dead skin mask leave it on for about 3 to 4 weeks cause under it is all healing skin. I was freaking out about the skin mask and decided to remove a little patch(maybe the size of a penny) in a really bad area on my check. Bad Idea. underneath the dead skin was red, really soft skin and i could tell it was like that because it was prob healing.
So i left it alone for another 2 weeks and decided that it prob had enough time to heal by now(this was about 3 1/2 weeks of having the dead skin mask and almost 2 months into regimen). I gently used the trimmer part of my electric razor and took the entire mask off by gently scrapping it off when it was turned on. The skin at first was a little red when i took it off so i washed my face for the first time since i started the regimen. after about an hour my skin returned to its natural color and i have been fine since.
Now i am about 3 months into this and i now wash my face once a day and i only splash water on for maybe 10 sec. I still get a little bit of dead skin but its nothing like the mask. I would gently exfoliate if off every few days by using circular motions with my fingers when i was in the shower. After i get out of the shower i have been using a tiny bit of moisturizer on my face (maybe the size of a pea)
. This helps a lot and i need this cause im irish and my skin is really dried out in the winter. I have tried not applying moisturizer at all but my skin would feel really tight and i hate that feeling.
Overall the dead skin has been becoming less and less as the weeks go by. I don't even have to exfoliate it off anymore it just comes off when i wash my face but i still moisturize.
i had it alllllll over except for my chin i used to never put bp there. Yea it was basically everywhere that i put bp on on a daily basis. the dead skin mask was the worst on my checks and the front of my face right next to my nose.
Dude and it looked bad. i mean my last week of it with it on i looked like my skin was really scaly and like i had some kind of skin disease. The good thing was is that you couldn't really notice it unless you looked real close. It also helped that i worked in a bar where the lights were dim and it was nighttime.
Don't worry man stick it out for that 3 1/2 weeks with it on then take the damn thing off. I recommend taking it off on a day you have no school or are off from work because like i said your face will be red for a few hours. You don't wanna take it off to early because the skin is healing underneath it and you might just have to start the entire process over and that would suck.
yea i was on the same boat as you, which was the reason i quit because i had no idea waht to do with the dead skin mask (it was all over face cheeks), but this time ill just take it off and continue
when you used a razor to scrape it off, was your skin wet or fully dry? i cant imagine using a razor on my cheeks
I think the theory is that if you wash with water too much or use a cleanser you are disrupting your skins natural acid mantle.
I have been following this regimen for about 2 weeks now. I had pretty much stopped using BP and was only using the cleanser to shave and BP for spot treatment. I was getting fed up because nothing was really changing and I felt that the cleanser was just irritating my skin.
Initially I noticed a big change. My face definitely looked better. However, after 2 weeks I feel like I am just back were I started. I am going to stick this out because I am tired of using BP and I feel that I shouldn't have to use BP anymore since I am 21.
My only concern with this regimen is that I have back and butt acne...and I don't really think this will help that. Anyone else who is doing this regimen have acne in places other than your face? How do you deal with it?
Thanks
Tim
i dont even have acne, just dry and irritated red skin from using soap, cleanser, etc. so basically im doing this so that my face can heal on its own (it will never heal if i keep using cleansers to wash away the acid mantle)
to mike:
1) restore your skin from the damage you've done from bp, cleansers. we were never meant to use all these chemicals to get rid of pimples, acne. our face is designed to heal on its own but we were misinformed i guess
2) it depends on the person and how much damage you've already done. but if u follow this regimen, your face will be covered in dead skin and become thick. so i guess when that falls off and the dead skin becomes less and less
3) you may want to use nothing for the first month or so, since water is drying and may hinder the process. but once your face gets stronger then you can use water with no problem.
hope that helps
is it okay to use moisturizer? i really want to use this moisturizer i have but i don't want to use anything else other than that. it's a shielding lotion.
i won't wash with water or nothin.
this is my first day and i am pretty excited.
the acne is a problem but what's even more of a problem is my dehydrated skin.
i can't stand it and i want it to go away lol
so i am praying this works
