Omigosh, so WaterWater can I just tell you that you are freaking hilarious.
I just started reading your posts on here tonight, and I LOVED your idea of not washing your face from the first post, even when everyone else was thinking you were crazy.
It's so true, though, like what did they do in the Bible times? Did they have ProActiv or Neutrogena? Did they even have zits? Does anyone not in America even have zits? Okay, probably they do. I don't know. I need to get out more, but anyway, I LOVE your idea, and I really want to try it, only, I'm an actress, and it's scary for me to try things out when I'm in the middle of filming, which I pretty much always am. But then also, all the things I do try to keep my face clear, don't work anyway, so I'm pretty sure it's frustrating for directors anyway, so yeah.
And I'm not THAT that bad acne-wise. I used to be WAY worse in grade school and partly in high school, but I've been on Accutane twice at the end of high school and beg. of college, and it did WONDERS, I LOVED it. But now that I'm a beginning actress, I don't have insurance, and can't even afford the antibiotics I've been living off since sixth grade, (which bee-tee-dub, is probably a good thing).
So anyway, as of four months ago, I've been off of EVERYTHING pills-wise, which has felt like the healthiest thing to do, and I'm now taking a probiotic (which I guess is a pill, but seriously at first, I was taking that and fish oil and two kinds of multi-vitamins because I was going CRAZY holistic or whatever you want to call it, but my stomach and digestive system were like, REJECT REJECT, so I stopped).
So yeah. But going off everything, face-washing and topical-applying-wise also sounds like a good choice, and I'm definitely thinking about it.
But yeah, I just LOVE your writing style, and I cracked up at my computer like three times just now.
Oh, and speaking of simplifying by not taking antibiotics and not washing your face, another thing you can do is NOT think about acne. If you don't think about it or worry about it or look at yourself in the mirror a hundred times a day, it tends to go away. Once again, though, this is difficult to do in the movie industry... Sheesh.
Sometimes I do want to rip my face off, and I see other people who are on Accutane because they're under their parents insurance, and I'm like seriously jealous of them. Even as I'm watching them put on chapstick every two seconds.
But yeah. Keep writing WaterWater. You're the next David Sedaris.
Oh, and is just using water on your face okay for this experiment? Like a quick splash? 'Cause I don't think I could do just nothing, esp. if I'm taking a shower, that would be hard. I would need like a hair cap for my face or something.
@tbc
too bad, he's not around anymore. we are now hailing him as a legend though he might never know it. About water, imo it's a no-no. It will only prolong the horrible phase of this recovery.
Anyway, you shouldn't do this while filming. Continue what keeps your very-mild acne at bay and enjoy life! Once you find a 2 month vacation then its the time to give this a shot. Good luck on your career! Btw, in what country are you an upcoming actress? It's quite interesting to have some rare personalities here.
I have found this topic, and other related ones, very enlightening!
After reading this thread I realised that this 'common sense' method made perfect sense and deserved a try.
I have been fighting acne since I was 17 (I'm now 21) and have tried antibiotics, over-the-counter topicals, Dan's BP regimen and more 'natural' regimens like Ibuprofen gel and Tea Tree Oil. Over these four years my acne has gone through cycles of getting much better, but then would inevitably get worse again..
I then also thought about my friends and people who are my age who don't have acne. They don't do strict and ridiculous regimes twice a day and yet they stay perfectly clear. I realise that I must be naturally inclined somewhat to having spots, but I have now realised - like others - that the topicals were ruining my skin. Dan's BP was especially harsh on my skin and yet I went on with his regimen for c. 6 months!
So, I have now taken on this 'regimen', if indeed it can be called that. I'm not going to wash my face, in fact I'm not going to touch it at all (this is how topicals are in part flawed - since you have to irritate your skin to apply them!). I'm on the fourth day and I can already see my skin partly improving. While I haven't noticed a drastic improvement in the number of spots I've got, the overall complexion of my face is much better, and my old spots are healing nicely.
I have faith in this regimen, and am already enjoying the liberating experience of not having to spend about 30 minutes a day washing and applying stuff to my face!
I'll post here weekly in future to update my status.
& what regimen are u talking about??
Not washing your face,or dans regimen?
I'm talking about this regimen, hence why I posted in this thread!
i'm moderately skeptical to try out this regimen ,
but i'm kinda confident that it must work to a certain degree because our skin should be able to heal itself without all the chemicals that we're throwing on it ,
and it doesn't really make me feel good knowing that i have to wake up 20 mins earlier just to dry out my skin and slather on moisturizer and have my face looking like a red beet . LOL
oddly though i think i may have indiscriminately done this regimen because i used to have alot of blackheads on my chest area , but eventually i just stopped washing that area and now my chest is looking pretty much normal , though my back acne is just as bad as my face , lots of redness .
anyways i think i'd be willing to join in on this regimen . start with day one right now as i've just got out of the shower LOL
HEy guys, I've been doing this regimen on and off for a while, but now is the time that I actually wanna stick with it. Couple of questions if y'all don't mind (I apologize if these were previously answered)
Are we supposed to just not wash our face forever even with water? Or is there a certain time where we should reintroduce just water back in? If so, is tap water okay to reintroduce back in or does it need to be filtered? I also wanted to know if we do succeed with this regimen, do you guys think it will be a "permanent" fix if we start reintroducing things back in (I'm not talking like creams and facewashes....just water) or will bringing back things just ruin everything that we accomplished? so sorry for these questions- and i sure did use the word reintroduce a lot!!
There will be a certain time to reintroduce water. And I suggest distilled over tap water. I'm on my day 35+-40 something and gonna introduce water soon since I'm pretty much cleared up. Gonna report on you guys once I do.
And yeah, this is a lifetime fix as long as you don't repeat your mistakes in the past.
For me and based on the experience of others, it's bad.
wapak, thanks for your reply...i know you help a lot of people and that means a lot. be careful- i've heard that distilled water over time is not a good thing (i rmr rreading that a couple of timeS)?? and thanks, yeah please keep us updated when you do bring water back in; i'm so happy that you are clear!!!
day 63 of regimen
yea listen to wapak, i say introduce water around day 40-45. Only wash your face once a day with cold water. This is of course after removing the dead skin mask which should be done around the same time but if you wanna keep it on for longer then all the power to ya. Your skin will be a little red after removing the dead skin but in a few hours it will return to its natural color.
If your skin is still drying out use a little moisturizer right after you wash your face. I have been doing this and my skin is fine. I hope to stop using moisturizer altogether in another month to two months.
Good luck to all you new guys doing this. If you have any questions just ask and i will try and get back to ya.
I'm not sure about that but as far as I know, drinking distilled only water all the time is the bad thing, not the washing with it. If your tap water does not cause you to break out then that's great. Trial and error is the way to know.
Good luck to all!
I'm having problems from the water touching my face in the shower!! I try sooo hard, but a lil bit always comes. I'm not sure if that is going to be a problem for this regimen.....then i feel like i need to wipe away that water that hit me and rinse with filtered water (i know, probably a bad move but i only do it when water hits me (which is a lot)...so preventing that would be great! maybe using a cup...but that would take forever to shower in, haha. Do you guys just let it hit you if it hits you and let it be or do y'all do something about it?
in your opinion, do y'all think this is a regimen that can handle anything that used to break us out before or should we still leave those out after we are fixed with this?
Wapak-Yeah i knew it was drinking of the distilled water being bad.....but isn't there some amount of water that we wash with absorbed in? (i don't know if this is true...i'm asking...not telling haha)
Ratsoff-really glad things are also working for you and thanks for your help; you and wapak said approx the same day to reintroduce the water.
mike i have said this before. Don't let the water hit your face at all. What i did was wash my body then i would get out of the shower, bend down and hold my head at like a 45 degree angle facing downward so the water would hit the back of my head and my neck and the water would trickle out from the top of my head instead of down my face. Its not that hard to figure out, give it a try.
I do the exact same thing with RatsOff though I don't wash my hair everyday so only once or twice a week I do that.
If water get's down to my face, I pat it with a towel. About the handling of things, of course topicals will remain a no-no for us. But if your pertaining to foods, then it's up to you to see if they really break you out after you cleared your acne with this regimen. Trial and error is the way, introduce them one by one and give some time to see if your skin reacts. I don't eat too many processed food so I haven't found a food that causes me to have a breakout.
About the water, yeah the skin absorbs what it comes into contact too. I guess distilled is won't be the first option then. Try tap water first, if that doesn't break you out then good. If it breaks you out then try other type of water like filtered water or distilled water.
so i've just reached the verge of day 4 ,
and i think that i'm extremely happy with the results i've been getting .
i cheated on the first day and splashed my face with water after some serious exercise , but i don't think that changed much .
overall my skin is a little bit flakey , but in all the right places , namely where i had a couple cystic marks healing on my cheek.
i'm actually surprised that going into this , i had a couple active whiteheads , but now they've dried up and are beginning to heal .
imagine that ! my pimples are healing without using any sort of topical medication, its lovely just knowing that my skin is repairing itself without me trying to throw on some type of acne medication that'll probably hurt me more in the long run .
overall i think that if i stuck with this routine for another couple weeks , i'm gonna see some great results !
also great news , the complexion of my skin is actually great and not red whatsoever anymore , which I feel makes my face look even nicer because you can't even notice half of my whiteheads because the rest of my skin is glowing .
kinda bothersome though , i went to my grandmothers house and all my relatives kept talking about my skin about how i should go to the dermatologist / get more sleep to heal my skin ..
even though i see them every week and this time i saw them i felt like my skin was getting much better , even if most of my cysts / clogged pores had become actives , at least i know that they'll fade within a matter of days .
thanks so much for the insight i gained from this topic !
i think i'd take dead skin over acne anyday , as loong as i know that my skin is attempting to heal itself and it'll be better in the long run , then im perfectly fine with anything .
and besides , underneath that dead skin will be some nice skin soon enough !
i think i just feel good knowing that my body is trying to heal itself , so i don't hold my skin up high on a pedestal anymore like when i did when i was using bp or other regiments, in the hopes that my skin would get better immediately and just saw more acne come up time and time again
Well its been about a month and a half of doing this and here's my conclusion. My acne isn't from irritation. I enjoy the freedom from washing and topicals but the fact is i'm getting cyst-like pimples which are uncommon for me. My diet is very healthy, limited grains and no soda or alcohol. My next move is to investigate fungal and viral causes. Fungal seems to make some sense. BP has antifungal properties so it could have kept a fungus partially at bay but never fully killing it. Just a guess. Seeing as i'm 23 and still have acne...i've been wrong before.
Never did experience this dead skin mask everyone is talking about. My skin is dicked up.
Plus I get pimples on my scalp and i wash my hair with only water every few days. Very minimal irritation going on there yet still. Gotta be something else going on here.
Then check this out: [Edited link out]
so the dead skin on my face got to be too much for me ,
so i did i dead sea skin peel (very gentle exfoliation , just rub in a circular motion on your face and the dead skin clumps up on your face and you just rise it off , its a jel-base so for the most part i dont think it took too much from my skin)
i rinsed it off with tap water
big no-no i'm aware , but i don't picture myself sticking with this regimen for over one month
i think im going to modify this regimen for myself , and only wash my face with water every 3-4 days and moisturize at these times .
the no wash thing does make alot of sense , but i can't see myself sticking with it when i have to go to school everyday , i'm just going to attempt other holistic / dietary methods and be very gently with my skin and we'll see where that lands me
Hey dude, your doing great! After your exfoliation/rinsing, try not to do anything again. The dead skin will be less and less until you won't get them anymore. Don't wash routinely yet and no moisturizing or else you get the oiliness back. About other holistic method, I guess you need to check the link I posted above and that should do.
