The grandpa stuff is pretty heavy duty, but it really works on dandruff. The ACV I used to do, then forgot about, but was reminded by this thread - so thanks!
Do you give yourself a scalp massage daily? I do that and it seems to help my scalp. I used to get really bad dandruff. Especially during cold weather. Now, I massage my scalp, then I brush my scalp gently with a paddle brush before I hop in the shower. That really helps to loosen up dead skin cells. Also, giving my hair a break every other day when it comes to products helps too.
Yup - then I let the pine tar soap sit for 30 sec. or so - whenever I slack off it comes back. I comb my hair with a wooden comb while the ACV is in. Sometimes I'll put a little olive or jojoba on the ends. You'd think my hair would be a horrid frizzy mess - it's actually better than it's ever been. Odd.
Just wanted to throw this in here for those of you who color your hair (like me!) or suffering dryness from meds like Accutane. The best shampoos for your hair are those without sulfates. I highly recommend the Deva Care line. My best friend bleaches her hair pretty often and dyes it pink and it looks silky, shiny and not even close to brittle and dry. Deva Care's No Poo is awesome.
I don't know about that Grandpa stuff, but ACV is great. I do a weekly rinse (Thanks to the lovely tips in this thread) to remove build-up. It's great!told ya..ACV FTW!!!!!!
Jai, your hair looks really great in your avatar.
Oh yes, you and her both! FIERCE!
thank you both!!!

oh yes - sulfate free poo's are the BEST if you're going to use shampoo for cleansing.....
I'm obsessed with Bed Head's Control Freak Conditioner!! It smells amazing (so fruity and delicious) and makes my hair silky smooth. I leave it in my hair for 5 minutes while showering and my hair comes out soo soft.
I also use Redken Heat Glide for when I straighten my hair, really good!

I recommend the Joico K-Pak intensive conditioner. This stuff is very creamy and has a wonderful scent. It is very expensive and I use another conditioner before it in the shower to detangle. I apply the Joico K-Pak after my hair has been conditioned and detangled and I think it moisturizes and protects the hair. IMO, the first conditioning is important because I use less of the K-Pak (which is 22.00 CAD)
I am a conditioner lover and Aussie makes a great one.
Recently, I ordered a free sample of Aveeno Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner. I tried them tonight, and they actually are great. They smell great, and left my hair feeling soft and clean. I'd say it was worth it. I'll try it again another day and see if I still like it.
You can go to www.aveeno.com to order a FREE sample.
I've heard aloe vera makes a great hair gel. I've never tried it because a situation in which I'd want gel in my hair has yet to arise. But for those that do...
It sure does. It also makes a good deep-moisturizing treatment when added to some heated (15 seconds!) non-silicone conditioner.

why thank u!!!! do you have a sally's beauty supply in canada? if so, they have a GVP (Generic Value Products) version that's less than $10 and it's the EXACT same thing...fragrance included.....
I don't know how many times I have to stress this to people: STOP USING PANTENE!
Why?? Is it true it makes your hair fall out?
I stopped using shampoo altogether because my hair was so dry and it hasn't got any better! and now when I do use shampoo I have to use the tiniest bit or I can really tell it's dried it out even worse. Had some DevaCurl No-Poo testers arrive in the post today though, so hopefully theyre going to be my answer

It is really harsh on your hair. It promotes shine, yet it just mimics it. It doesn't really do much for my hair other than make it really brittle and tangly.
Yeah, just a bit of shampoo is good. Then again I like a lather. lol
I've made a hobby out of donating my hair to Lock's of Love - I'm very fortunate to be blessed with fast growing hair so why not give to a good cause right?
Anyways, I always try to keep my hair in tip-top shape for this. My tips are, which may not work for some, but the key is less is more: don't dye hair, very minimal use of products, decreased heat - if you blow dry your hair then don't straightened it to, or vice versa, and limit your heat usage to as much as you can -air drying is always best.
Product wise: Biolage > if you are willing to pay the money & a great cheap deep conditioner is Garnier Fructis Fortifying Deep Conditioner > I have tried so many other conditioners and this one is truly amazing for the price! Deep condition at least once a week, possibly two. And don't wash your hair everyday, I do every other day and if you can sometimes go more than do that.
A new fave shampoo & conditioner is John Frieda Root Awakening = so soft
I though I'd ask a question about pomade, since this is the official hair-care and styling thread
What is a good pomade to use? I use Crew pomade at the moment and my only concern is that it doesn't come off at night. Sometimes I remember to was off my hair at night and sometimes I don't. I just rinse my hair with water at night to remove the Crew. Is that alright? If not, should I be using a water-based pomade/wax? Recommendations and answers please. Thanks!
