Hi everyone! So I started getting occasional breakouts in high school then my freshman year of college (five years ago) I got acne it seemed over night. I have been prescribed multiple rounds of antibiotics and they would only work for 6 months to a year and then it would seem like my acne came back with vengeance. April of 2016 I was prescribed spiro and it has been an absolute God send. My skin has been basically clear since august of last year. I get occasional breakouts like once a month but it's tolerated. Now fast forward to today. I'm getting married in June next year and we want to start having babies soon after so I discussed with my dermatologist how I was terrified of going off spiro when I'm trying to get pregnant and then having to worry about terrible skin. She suggested accutane since it's more of a cure instead of a treatment. She also stated that about 85% of patients don't have any acne return. As an acne sufferer I know ALL of the risks but I also know all of the anxiety I face every day knowing spiro is just a temporary solution and I don't want to have to this medication forever. So anyone whose had a similar experience or words of encouragement it would be so so appreciated.

also, did also like to state that I use clindamycin solution, benzoyl peroxide, niece trentinoin topically

I wouldn't do it. I was in a similar situation to you. Spironolactone cleared me, but I still broke out so my derm told me Accutane was the only way to fix that. At first it was going well, but after the 3rd month and up until now, my skin has been horrible. I got scars and indented lines and bad texture everywhere. I didn't have any of this before. I didn't even have acne anymore during my whole 5 month course. So just don't do it.

How long have you been on spiro? And did you just stop taking the accutane. Did it help?

You stop all other acne treatments while on Accutane. I was on spiro from 7/11/2016 to the end of January 2017. It took that long to work. Stopped Accutane close to 3 weeks ago, and my skin is getting worse and worse (texture, scars, random shallow indented lines). Seriously, don't even consider it.
