I've always had very concentrated, persistent acne right on my cheeks. Was on doxycycline for about 2 years and it did nothing. New derm prescribed accutane in March, and while it has cleared quite a bit my skin is still red, irritated, and very uneven and discoloured in texture. Im so frustrated because I feel like this was my final option:( I feel so angry!!! Will my skin ever be totally clear ??

Hi meghanpr, Is this your first course of Accutane?what dose are you on?I was on my first course for 8 months before I cleared so you probably still have a few months left on Accutane. If you do a full course and you find you are still breaking out afterwards you could always consider a second course (some people need a second course to get completelyclear) You also have the option of hormonal acne treatments such a spironolactone etc but I would not give up on the Accutane just yet as it's still early days for you. Also it's normal to have uneven, red skin when on it, this does go back to normal when you finish your course. Also I would highly recommend starting a topical as soon as you finish your course, after my second course I started onretin-a .25% (topical Accutane) straight away and think that was the difference in me remaining clear the second time. Hope this helps:)
