Hey everyone! Just for some general info im a female, 18, 128 lbs and about 5'6.
Ive always had acne prone skin for the longest time, but it was always very
mild, no more than 3-4 pimples at a time. Both my parents had super severe acne so basically i knew i was doomed at some point. Three months ago i developed little tiny pimples all over my forhead and corners of my chin (not severe at all though, not cystic or anything like that) I saw my dermatologist and she prescribed me Doryx 200 mg a day and Tazorac/Aczone. I started doing her regimen and wow my skin broke out so bad on my chin and forhead with huge ugly whiteheads. I called my derm immediatey and said i wanted accutane because it worked miracles for my moms acne. So i made an appt. However, i kept doing her regimen, and a month later my skin is looking so much better! I am left with a bunch of red marks and a couple active pimples on my forhead and chin still. I went to see her yesterday because i still had an appt scheduled to talk about accutane. She told me that since i will be heading off to college soon, that I should still do accutane so my acne is completely gone and wont come back, since she said antibiotics can only work temporarily. I Have to wait 30 days but im going to do accutane, 60mg a day for four months. Im just worried because if this regimen im on keeps working then by the time i start accutane ill have little to no pimples. Is it worth it? Should i do accutane even if i barely have acne left so it doesnt come back? Help!!!
The number of people on this board getting prescribed this stuff really disturbs me. It's a horrible drug. I would have to have some outrageously severe acne going on to even consider it. Aside from the horror stories on here, I know someone that was on Accutane twice (the results are NOT permanent) and wishes they never did it...the health problems they have suffered as a result are very real and very permanent. I would urge you to do some research and make an informed decision before you start taking it.
