Hey, I haven't posted here before so I'm sorry if this comes up all the time!
I'm currently taking Isotretinoin 35mg daily and I'm on week 12 now. I had mild-moderate acne (in my opinion) and so far I've had really positive results. After my last checkup, I found out that it's a 16 week course which surprised me - my total dosage will be about 3900mg... about 60mg/kg which is a lot less than I'd expected.
I'm worried it'll come back after I finish treatment - why not take the usual cumulative dose now, just to make sure it's not coming back? I haven't had the best experience with my derm - I don't think he ever looked at my skin in detail and just gave me some accutane 'guide book'. I know they get through loads of patients, but still...
So I guess I'm wondering, is it usual to be given a lower dose even for more mild acne, or should it really be in the 120mg/kg area? Should I push for a longer treatment to reach a higher final dosage... or shutup and listen to my derm?! Like I said, great results so far but I'm worried I could relapse 4 weeks left feels like no time at all!
thats wise of you to learn about the drug yourself and be involved in your own treatment...
I agree I would expect that dosage to be doubled over the long term. But, we did not go to medical school and do not know as much as the derms do.
Best option is make an appointment with a second derm and go ask them what they think. If you like the second derm better, you can just go on ipledge and switch over prescribers and have them take care of your bloodwork and apps for the rest of it.
But yes that does seem odd to me that your derm wants to give you only 60mg/kg. Thats like half of the "target" cum dosage.
