Been put off Accutane for a while now but finally decided to take the plunge started my first dose of 30mg today aswell as some steroids i was prescribed to help combat the side effects and also taking some biotin / vitamin e to help with the hair and skin problems I may occur.
Any advice? Im pretty sure I could take any of the side effects on the chin except the hair loss which is what scares me. So any advice on products to use? My hair usually is quite oily which I'm guessing is a good thing as it drys your hair out but I do tend to use a lot of hair product daily which often drys my hair out.
So any tips on moisturises, conditioners and anything else I will need?
Would be awesome if you guys could help me out.
Thank you.
Ya im on my second month I have a few suggestions.
I started getting dandruff which I never had before because my scalp got dried out, so head and shoulders has helped with that.
Dr. Dan's lip balm, its chap stick on crack. I had to ask for it at the pharmacy to get it, no prescription needed, thats just where they kept it.
I havent been taking any vitamin e or biotin supplements but I should, I've noticed my hair sheds more than I'm used to. Not too bad though.
I felt the same way as you, where I was so fed up with having acne all the time that I didn't give a flying **** about what short term side effects I got as long as it worked. I did notice I started to feel different mentally, I would say a little depressed. I'm also very fatigued, probably because it made me a little depressed. Now the tricky thing is I'm aware it is a side effect of the drug and no I'm not going to kill myself. I feel like if I say something to the derm about it they are going to want to take me off or lower my dose and I'll be right back where I started, depressed with bad skin. So thats something to look out for. My joints are also aching, I think the only thing to do for that is to drink a lot of water or lower your dose, which I don't really want to do.
I get nose bleeds, not sure if there is anything to do about that. I guess everyone doesn't have an initial breakout from accutane but mine is still occuring and is horrid. I think it depends on how deep your acne is in your skin how long you will break out maybe. So be prepared that could happen I guess.
About drinking, I've been pretty good about not drinking on accutane but I did drink pretty good once, and when I woke up my body felt very damaged, not like a normal night of drinking at all. So I guess there is some truth to why they tell you not to drink. So i guess if you are going to drink, don't take your pill that day or maybe the day before as well.
For moisturizers I use cetaphil, I think anything non-cameogenic or whatever that word is that means it won't plug up your pores.
Overall I would say it's a little tougher to manage then I thought it would be, mainly because of the bad breakout I got and the lack of energy, but totally still manageable and if my skin isn't fixed by the end of this I am going to be pretty pissed.
good luck my friend. Also don't forget to take your pill with fat because it's fat soluble. I eat it with my bacon and eggs in the morning, which is nice.
