Hi Derp,

Yeah, a lot of people here perfer homiopathic treatements for some reason. I just got off of a cycle of accutane, and it is highly effective. The only side effect that I experienced was severe dryness, and of course things related to it such as nosebleeds. I find it a little odd that your dermatologist told you not to use something to hydrate your skin, as mine made it very clear that I should. You will at very least need lip gloss, my lips became so dry, they often bled.

You guys have strangely large dosages of accutane compared to me as well, I was 175 pounds when I started and it's usually based on weight. As for what you should eat, it actually shouldn't matter too much anymore. They made changes to the molecule to make your stomach absorb it better regardless of what's on your stomach, however I suppose it couldn't hurt. I was actually bodybuilding at the time of my treatment, so I was on a low carb diet, and I think that helped keep my liver healthy though.

Kimber, you live in a cold climate, so I highly suggest that you do make sure your skin is well hydrated. I didn't experience any peeling while on Accutane to be honest. Another thing to keep in mind, while on Accutane your skin is also very vunerable to UV, so I really suggest using sun-screen. This will help with the hyperpigmentation also known as dark spots, it will prevent sun damage, so on and so forth. My dermatologist recommended Helioplex in a oral form in combination with sun screen to protect the skin.

Derp: Here in Europe we are told to use the La Roche Possay Effaclar H moisturiser, which is supposed to be good for dehydrated skin due to Medical treatment. I'm using this for daytime at the moment, but have to use something else at night while it doesn't give enough hydration. Somedays I'm also using a serum for dry skin underneath it.. Have read good reviews from others on dofferent creams from La Roche Posay for sensitive skin, and the Avene-Products. both should be great at sensitive skin. I'm very dehydrated even before this Cure, and the Winter has finally arrived here in Scandinavia, which gives Cold weather outside, and dry, hot air inside..not the best for dry skin.

Jayesbro: Which dosage where you put on? Did you stay on the same amount of mg the whole time?

My derm said that some years ago skin doctors adviced acne sufferers to not use any kind of cream to mosture thes skin. I was told than when I went on antibiotics 10 years ago, both oral and on the skin, and became soooooo dry. She said she was not surprised by my story, while today they recommend to moisturize, especially when doing this treatment. And as she said to me; this time you may use creams with fat, which was a no go before this treatment. So I have ordered the Decleor serum for dry to extra dry skin-a rich oil, and hope this will be good somehow.

Day 16: Very little has changed. Still freezing, thirsty at all times, waiting for my skin to turn absolutely crazy (I guess the two cysts I'm suddenly having can't be all of the IB?). And somehow I feel like all of my social life contains lots of alcohol. People get so strange when I tell them I'm not having any wine, or at least only a glass. Even my mother was like "oh, so what ARE you going to drink on Christmas Eve" . Would ahve been easier to be pregnant I think, since I'm not to keen to tell EVERYONE about this treatment.

LOL!

It is crazy the more u tell people u cant drink or cant drink to much they want to stick a funnel in your mouth!

I had 3 martinis over t-day and was fine..what am I really expecting to happen? get more red or drunk faster?

BUT tonight i have a friends hubby bday bash so I plan to have a drink or 2 or 3

so my friend is suggested skip accutane all together today?

does that make any sense?

only took 20 yesterday and was going to take 20 today...would it make any crazy sense to take after the party?

I shouldnt be home very late..we are older with kids..so a couple hours is all a big birthday bash turns out to be

I think we are to avoid alcohol because Accutane is heavy on the liver, and so is alcohol. But my derm said it's okey to have a glass of wine or two for dinner (I asked, and she actually said she thought the no-alcohol policy is to avoid people from getting drunk while on this treatment). Have read about those getting drunk faster though, but since you have had a few drinks already you know you're not reacting differently, so then you should be good :) And dod rink more water inbetween the drinks, have read that people say they become even more dry the day after.

regarding not taking the meds; you have the medication in your body anyway, so can't imagine it being such a difference after all? But perhaps take 20 mg instead of 40 just to be on the safe side?

Gosh, today I'm simply addicted to my lip balm. It's 99% fat, and still it's just melting.

Went out last night and definitely got drunker faster/off less alcohol than I normally would. Maybe a positive on a student budget though haha?

Had my second nose bleed today. Also realised my skin looks really greasy after its been washed, only lasts about 5 minutes though. Kind of strange.

Kim, are you sure your rose turned red because of the 40 mg? I mean, I don't think our body reacts so quickly or does it? It took me a couple days before noticing any effect when I started so I find it strange. I have been on 30 mg for 26 days now and some days my nose would turn red, some other days, it is my forehead that would. Most days, nothing turns red though. So I'm under the impression it was a coincidence? But I am no specialist...

While for me it's not enough alone, and therefor my skin gets dry. Strange how different we react to this.

Thats so odd u mentioned forehead

I should clarify since i started tane (cant remember when it exactly hit) but my nose/forehead only have been a little red..I wasnt surprised and didnt think much of it..assumed side effect, wasnt surprised

The first time I took 40mg rather quickly i noticed my nose BRIGHT red but by the next morning it went down a bit and was back 'normal' red.

So when I took 40mg again the following night again I noticed shortly after my nose got REALLLLLy red again...and again toned down over night

Last night i took only 20mg and again shortly after turned right..i could almost feel a slight burning....but it wasnt as bad as on 40mg

sooooo maybe it is just a reaction that I have and not completely correlated to the amount...

Im going to stcik with 20 again today and maybe tomorrow start breaking it up 20 am and 20pm

who knows?

Im sure there are some side effects happening and I am also looking at everything with such a critical eye

I asked my son because he was looking at me funny if my nose was red and he said yes

I asked me hubby and he said no..LOL

but he is blind up close and already needs reading glasses..LOL..so hes not a great judge!

Hey,

The daily intake dose I was on was 40 mg. Which was why I was suprised some of you was prescribed much more than that, considering your body weights. And, yeah, my dosage remained the throughtout the treatment.

Its a really mild, 1% salycilic acid cream that doesnt dry my skin, but it works wonders overnight. It doesnt clear me up or anything, it reduces inflammation and size.

I tried a salicylic acid concealer from EmerginC on one of my cysts now, and my skin is like gum.. . Used to work better. Which brand are you using? And from where did you order it? Mine had 2% in it, so might be to heavy at the moment.

I'm 65 kg, on 40 mg, but I think my doctor wants me to take 60 mg when I see her in 1,5 week. I'm supposed to take somewhere between 8-10 000 mg before I finish this treatment she said last time, and it's supposed to correlate with your body weight? I would like to stay on 40 mg because there hasn't been any really bad side effects yet, but I do agree that 80 mg seems high. have read about those taking 100 mg as well. Scary.

Day 17, no new acne, but my skin feels like sand paper. Not because it's dry, but because of the black heads (we call them skin worms). It seems like some of them are squeezing themselfs out..?

My skin has been acting a bit strange...I'll have whiteheads come and go from day to day...I think this morning was the first morning since starting where nothing new popped up AND a few things dried up....hope it's the start of something good.

Although my derm told me not to use moisterizure unless really necessary I can no longer leave the house with my peely gross face so i use neutrogena for sensitive skin in the morning...However at night i don't put any on and I wake up with a reaally dry face but I don't mind, I really feel like it helps some zits go faster??

Good luck to all!!

Hi!

How long was your course?

The ''typical'' dosage here (Quebec, Canada) is 0,5 mg/kg for 2 to 4 weeks and then 1 mg/kg for 20 weeks. So, my weight being 58 kg, I am now taking 30 mg/day and I'll be upped to 60 mg/day for the remaining 4 months. Were you experiencing really bad side effects on 40 mg? I'm doing very good on 30 mg and I feel like that my dosage can be upped... but I'm really afraid to go so high. The only positive thing is that my course will be ''short''. I hope everything will be fine with 60 mg because I really want to be done before Summer.

I think I would prefer to stay on 40mg and be on the med for another month or 2

I dont see myself going higher than that

awesome!

I am using moisturizer now but only where need it and sparingly

vaseline has been working for me

I slather a bunch on, wait a few minutes, use my normal face wash than a soft wash cloth to dry and get any extra skin off...pat dry and tiny but moisturizer

just a thought!

here in the states my Dr says they like for u to be done in 5 mnths

maybe that is why she is pushing 40mg than higher

BUT its all up to the insurance company

i need to call to see how long they will agree to pay for it..right now Im only paying $10 a mnth

Ok thanks!

Part of me wants to get this over with sooner than later but other part doesnt want to deal with nasty side effects (potentially) of higher doses

Ive read lots of studies that clain longer term lower dose treatments of tane are as effective as the hgiher dose shorter term treatments

My Dr doesnt buy it though

I did my war cry in the mirror last night. My dad came up to me and asked if i was insane. I told him it was my war cry, he shook his head and said "A normal child, wasn't much to ask for" i cracked up.

Day 18, and my nose has started to peel seriously. Might have something with my running nose, but this is a bit heavier peeling than when I have a cold normally. Still feels like sand paper, and I want to take a strong chemical peeling just to get my skin surface smooth again. Hiding in the library today, waiting for a chance to get home and have a nap. Drinking twice as much coffee now as I used to do, but still sooo tired.

Hope everyone else starts their week with better skin than yesterday!

Where is everyone today?

Hope busy and having a good one

Day #22

I decided to try 20mg am and 20mg pm

so far so good..my extreme exhaustion has gone away (Maybe it was something else..who knows, but im happy with that)

hair shedding has slowed down

Lips and skin fine..a little tight but not peeling

*fingers crossed things continue to go well*

The monster on my chin healing very quickly

2 days and it is pretty small and flat and nothing a pinch of concealer cant hide

skin is less red

but def bumpy and lots of small clogs

also having issues in the space between my nose and upper lip

Its always been a weird area for me

if i used any active or moisturizer would red red bumps or a rash

I have been using a little moisturizer everywhere fearing one day I will wake on tane and my face will peel off

so last night i used a smidge in this area and woke up today with typical angry bumps...

well hope everyone is well

I go for b/w on Friday and see my Dr for mnth 2 next week..crazy!!

ive been taking weekly update pics but they stink

with my desk top u cant see anything

big flash which makes u look great!

kim
