Hey Derp/Mary

Im still here but didnt want to talk to myself on this thread..LOL..or be a thread hog

I understand most of you are busy students.... and I was secretly hoping no posts meant good things :)

No news=good news :)

Im same old...day 50-something

Day #4. I think. on 60mg

Completely surprised that besides my dry hands/arm/rash business NO additional side effects

Im taking 3, 20mg tabs spread out during the day

The vaseline was doing wonders the firts 2 days now it doesnt look terrible but burns/hurts

hair still shedding..but not too alarmed

Face is OK

small little blips every day that linger but dont become the huge massive explosions like the IB before xmas

texture is improving... a little...hoping by this point it woul look smoother..wishful thinking!

still see some weird random fleshy odd shaped bumps and red flat marks that appear out of nowhere

I also had blackheads for so long that have diminished and I am not left with a big emtpy hole..not cool

But hanging in there!!

Kim

Derp: Did he have a clue that you were on Accutane? If not, what made him guess it?

Kim: Unfortunately, I'm not a student anymore (good old times). I'm 31, so you're not the only one! :) I experience the same on my nose... No more blackheads but tiny holes. :( I don't think they will go away so I'm just trying to forget them!!

Hey! I'll be starting roaccutane TONIGHT as well. Like you, I am nervous but hopeful about the results. I am to take it for a year, 20mg each night. I hope everything goes well for us.

Ok nice....little refreshing to know Im not the only one not in college..LOL

I want to believe my pores will magically shrink..LOL

I guess they were clogged for so long

Im wondering when the magical porcelain skin from tane will appear :)

I dont know if my skin was THAT oily or thick or maybe my dosage but even on 60mg my lips are good

If i use Dr Dan's 2-3x a day and carmex or vaseline a few times and my skin still is hardly peeling

I only use a pea size of moisturizer at night..mmmmmm...

Im hapy but feeling crazy that its not working or my Dr will want to increase my dose

Guess ill see..appt next week

Hey guys, ive been away for such a long time! Hoping you guys are doing better. Im completing week 7, i have broken out, but its not a cyst thank god. I believe it will turn out to be a big whitehead. I was perfect three days ago. Ugh. Ill go to the derm on wednesday have my blood taken, blah blah. Worried cuz theyll need time for my tests to come out and then prescribe me another box. Ill run out of pills!! What happens when you dont take them like, for a few days?

Derp: I see! So that means it's probably working on you! I don't think anyone could tell I'm on the drug... People might just think I'm in a bad skin period... Cause im very bad these days!! Couple new nodules on my right cheek and they hurt and they will stay forever !

en1gma: From what I read, it's pretty common that people skip a couple days so I wouldn't worry if I were you!! :)

Hey

ladies

Hey May

Im right with ya!

Just when I think Ive turned the corner..bam...

I got a brand new monster, red and painful on my jaw line..litttle marble booger sob...

Going to spot treat lightly and leave it alone

Sorry en1gma that u might miss a few days

but i dont think it will be a problem overall

My Dr initially told me if I was having bad side effects i could lower my dose or stop for a bit

any chance u can get in earlier so i dont have a lapse

I know how much we all want to stick to the program and get this over with!

Hang in there

Well went to derm today blood work was great and got script for next month. Then went to pharmacy but they told me the derm never put the okay in the i pledge so gotta work on that now!

Other then that derm told me to keep spirits up as she is pretty confident i will be good to go in month five. She did say worst case scenario i get a lower dose for a few months after the five but she highly doubts it will come to that..

Let the good times rolllll

does anyone else feel that tane moves around attacking different part of your face..LOL

My right side is my worst area and that is where i had my IB explosion...after that around xmas my forehead was bright red, bumpy and angry looking...

My left side was next (my good side) with only a few small bumps

Now my chin...good thing Is I am running out of areas on my face :)

Dare i say im almost at day #60

still on 60mg.no differences

vaseline how i love thee...if anyone else is having hand issues (thanks for the recs here) makes a huge huge difference

Sorry to hear Kim...I definitely feel the same way about tane attacking different part of the face..I just got a big ol zit on my lower neck for the first time in my life courtesy of tane.

Question: does anybody's forhead dry out from the tane? while my face dries out my forhead never does!

Hey derp

Sorry about the blip on your neck

like i said..good thing is we are running out of new areas to purge

For me my chin is the only area that peels ever so slightly

cheeks are little tight

Forehead though not peeling looks dehydrated and is the area I moisturize the most

Only oily spot left is between my eyebrows

Second place moisturize the most is my chin

which of course is making me question my current breakouts

But just staying the course and hoping the 2-3 mnth mark will be in relief

Kimber. WORD.

How much do you guys pay for tane? I started at the end of last year and I already passed my insurance's co pay limit so I was getting it free. Now that it's the new year I was shocked to see it was 400 bucks! I looked everywhere for coupons and what not but couldn't find anything...I am now out 400 bucks. This shit better get the job DONE.

Derp...Holy crap!

I pay $10

Dr office gave me a discount cared (can u call your Dr)

W/ out I would be paying $60

Just got back from derm

Pushed up appt because of spot (to put it nicely)

Had it injected..exploded on my jaw line over night..(do u guys find that small tiny spot EXPLODES over night)

Saw PA and she was a big BIOTCH...my derm not in on Fridays

Insisted I should be on 80mg (40 split)

Kept insisting I was starting my 4th month, when It's my 3rd

Said I was still breaking out because my dose was too low and I HAD to up it to 80mg (had to be 40mg split)..she said regardless I will be on it 6mnth

So I teared up a little when I got into the car

I also asked about moisturizer...she inisisted i use cerave and only cerave..though i said i had issues in the past

When I told her I get ultar red when i take 40mg at one clip and could she call in 20mg..she said NO..wear more foundation

I wanted to punch her.grgrgrgrrrr

WTFFFFFFF

hahahahahahahah

yup they told me at the pharmacy the only cheaper brand is asorbcia (or wtvr) but it's the only brand that doesn't mix with the other generics...my first two months were two different generics......

Kim: I don't understand!! If I remember well, you weigh 130 lbs so 60 mg is the norm (1 mg/kg per day). 80 sounds a little high to me but I am no specialist. That really sucks! And to be told to wear more makeup... That's so frustrating!!

Derp I live in Canada, so I guess that doesn't count but I'm paying $60/month and my Insurance pays around $80 per month. I'm not sure how it works exactly but I think I will also get a refund. I hope you find a way to have it for a lower price!! (I'm taking Accutane and not a generic.)

Hey Mary

Yup..u have a good memory..I weigh 130

and my regular Dr and this Dr rec the 80mg as the perfect dosage (40mg split) and today she said I needed to stay on tane for 6 mnths regardless

feeling better now, I was just so bummed right after

I called the office back and left a message with the nurse saying no way..want to stay on 60mg ..think its a decent/good dosage and want to continue 20mg/3x a day

It is so different from one Dr to another!! I wonder what really influences their choice, except their personal preference! Your acne was not so bad in the first place? I am no professional, but I read that more than 1 mg/kg was pescribed in severe cases, mostly for persistent back and chest acne. Since you're just starting on 60 mg shouldn't you wait to see how you react? Anyway, in the end, I think you're the one who should decide if you go up or if you stay on 60 mg.

Hey Mary

Yup what they call mild but persistant acne...3-5 spots at all times (on antibiotics and bp and retin-a..still wasnt completely clear)

I was always getting from Dr, it could be worse and its not bad enough...until this Dr in a split sec suggested tane...as im an old lady now and have had enough of this b/s!..LOL

It was a miracle if i made it 2 weeks without a new spot no matter what I did/tried...diet changes, water etc etc

NO acne on back/chest/body

It seems like they are lumping everyone in the same boat in this practice

set formula for dose and set duration .....no attention being given to the specific patients circumstances..and for the dumb PA to suggest I should be clear by now..thank god I found this board or would have felt 300x worse after my appt, but i knew that was b/s!

Based on the tane calculator 60mg is a good dose for 130 and I believe based on the fact I was on 20mg for 2 weeks, than bumped to 40 for 4-5 weeks

I would still be done in 5 mnths if i continue 60mg here on?

I might reach out to my regular dr..she also said she wanted me on 80mg

BUT I plan to insist that 60mg split 3x a day seems to be comfy for me

wish me luck!

LOL

Hope all is well with everyone else out there

Well I'm very surprised. I read tons of reviews and it seems that many people don't clear out before the third month. And some, just at the very end of their course. I was not prescribed Accutane by a derm but by a Dr at the clinic who didn't know me at all. At first, she talked about 3 months but I insisted and showed her the monograph, so she copied it from my iPod on the prescription (4 weeks x 30 mg, 16 weeks x 60 mg). Here, we don,t have to go back to the Dr to get a new prescription each month. Also, she didn't make me do the pregnancy test. And for the bloodwork, I had to tell her to add the test for the cholesterol cause she didn't select it on the prescription sheet. It's very impressive that some Dr can prescribe drugs without knowing much about it. I am very glad that I was well informed!!! Below is from drugs . com

In studies comparing 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 mg/kg/day, it was found that all dosages provided initial clearing of disease, but there was a greater need for retreatment with the lower dosages. During treatment, the dose may be adjusted according to response of the disease and/or the appearance of clinical side effects some of which may be dose related. Adult patients whose disease is very severe with scarring or is primarily manifested on the trunk may require dose adjustments up to 2.0 mg/kg/day, as tolerated.
