Kim, I think that it won't change much if you go up to 60 mg. I weigh 128 lbs (58 kg) so according to my calculation I have to be on the drug at least 131 days (30 days at 30 mg and 101 at 60 mg) which is around 4,3 months... but since the pills are coming in packs of 30, I will probably take it for 150 days. So that's 5 months. I don't know what you have taken so far so that's hard to tell!

I started today too! 30 mg once/day. Moving up after my next appt. I have been using Neutrogena Oil Free moisturizer for sensitive skin lately and I love it. Though I picked up some Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream for when things get much drier. I use Simple cleansing face wipes to get my makeup off, but I guess the men don't need to worry about such things. I see a lot of people using CeraVe or Cetaphil cleanser while on Accutane. Good luck to all! May we all somehow avoid the really nightmarish side effects!

Kim congrats on the upgrade!!

Good luck, I want to say that peeling is a good sign. My derm told me not to use moisterizure at all b.c the peeling and dryness help clear you up.

Keep us posted!

Thanks Derp glad to hear that

I am using a tiny tiny literally pea-size of moisturizer for my entire face

Just not sure if it gets much worse what Ill do...might look a little crazy at school pick up

I have a clarisonic and I know we are supposed to be gentle with our skin

BUT I have heard of people on tane using it maybe 2-3x a week just to get off dead skin/flakes

so I shall see

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Kim, EXACTLY what happened to me...I dosed it in vasaline and it's been fine ever since. Both my hands are still a little dry/scaly where the rash was but no pain and no rash..when it happened to me and i bugged out i did an online search and found it's really common. Good luck! been there and know it's not fun but it was gone the day after i drowned them in vasaline...

Good luck!

Kim, I am not sure thats related to your dose increase, I mean it seems early! But who knows!? I had rash on the back of my hands and it got quite horrible but it didn't really hurt nor did it itch. It burned a little bit once. Vaseline did miracle on that. It stopped the day I started using it and it's almost completely gone now.

Things will surely get drier for me since we are having extreme cold here this week. Tomorrow will be -40!!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am on day 3 and have only noticed a couple of things so far. Most obvious thing: no sleep! I think I'm being a hypochondriac though and not sleeping due to nerves. Just lying awake waiting for my brain to expand and cause blindness. Did y'all read about that rare side effect? LORD.

I've also noticed that my lips are majorly peeling but I live in the deep south and as those of you in the US know, we are having a serious cold front right now, so that could also be from environmental factors. I ordered some Dr. Dan's cortibalm off of Amazon and that seems to keep moisture in place for hours!

I've been thinking a lot about how terrified everyone is of this drug and I wonder whether or not it is totally necessary. Is a lot of it in our minds? I know I'm a worrier and it just makes me that much more likely to notice and/or LOOK for bad things after reading about all of this fear. So many products and companies have billions to lose if we are all clear of acne. There are a lot of folks out there who do not want every person with acne to get on this stuff! Just a thought... maybe we would be better off we were less freaked out. Every drug has the potential to create horrific side effects. So does every car ride you take and bite of food you eat... That's life. I don't see the media covering this drug like they once did ever since the original Accutane went off the market. It seems like the new forms of this drug are much safer, closely watched/regulated, and that the fear is from the early days of the drug. Fingers crossed.

Are there any ladies on this thread who get highlights? Is that allowed during treatment? I don't want to burn my scalp, but I can't go around looking like Madonna circa '88 either...

Cheers!

Hey again

yes I get highlights and have had them since on tane and NO problem/difference

I think years and years and years ago..the horror stories with tane revolved mostly around horrible birth defects regarding woman getting pg on tane or after

Also, of course the issue of depression etc....which i am sure is very common in many medications..need to weight your options

I dont have any history or mental illness or family history

I think there are some horror stories out there but I also feel if you did a search for other serious medication, youwould find the same

BUT I do think we can get into our own heads a little

good luck!

Hows everyone dong hair-wise? I noticed I had a couple of hairs by my hairline break??

This is pretty annoying b.c I brush my hair straight up and now two of them won't reach...it was literally over one night too.

Anybody else have anything like this?

Marilyn: I am a huge worrier too and it took me 4 years to decide to go on Accutane. I had read so many horror stories!!! Funnily, many people accuse Accutane of problems they had months or years after finishing their course... It seems to me that the causality is hard to confirm. This being said, yes there are many potential severe side effects, but in my opinion, as long as you listen to your body (but not too much!!!) and that you have your blood test done every month, you shoudl be fine. We cannot know what will happen so once we have taken the first pill, we have to relax or else we will live a true nightmare. And as long as it is on forums, we don't know who is writing so we cannot assume those stories are 100% true!

Derp: I also notice new hair growing close to my hairline break. And they are not wanting to follow the others so they go in their own direction... really annoying!

Day 62 and it seems like that my skin stagnates. It feels like that the acne will stay forever. Earlier in my course it healed very quickly but the pimples were huger and they hurted like hell. New acne doesn't inflame and doesn't hurt much but it's pretty red. I don't know if that's the start of the healing stage... I hope it is! Anyone else experiences the same?

I'm still considering myself very lucky not to have very bad side effects. The biggest issue is nose bleeding, which occurs at least once everyday. But I'm used to it since my nose is always bleeding a bit in winter. Hand rash and lips are under control. Crazy new hairs annoy me. They stand straight on my head, that's so bizarre!! But I don't think it's very noticeable, well I hope!!

I stay positive. I can't believe I'm already in my third month!!!

Mary,

I can totaly relate to that feeling that your acne gonna last forever...i'm with you. Funny story:

I met up with one of my old friends yesterday and he takes one look at my face and said "ahh accutane eh? been there done that, don't worry it gets better".

that was encouraging to hear (though not so nice to hear that he picked up on my being on accutane so quick!)
