Ive got some questions
does anyone know (asked their derm) about the skins strength after accutane. does it regain its strength like before you took it?
I am at month 4.5 at 20mg a day. at first i purged a lot from different places, then it cleared up nice but i was getting clogged pores (perhaps from the moisturiser) so i switched to cetaphil. More purging started happening. I was getting inflamed black heads, and still am. My cheek broke out quite badly with 3 under the skin spots (no head) just pain. They are leaving pinkish marks, one is going down and the other two are still there.. its really messing my cheek up.
other than that i have red marks scattered about where large zits have formed and or from where i may have not been able to resist a gentle squeeze.
Basically i feel very low and wonder if accutane was the right choice here at 4 months in!! at least before my skin would heal up and the spot would be in its way, now i feel like the weakness makes me scar prone (not like before). I have never scarred from a spot that i didn't tamper with.
so yeah feeling pretty defeated and feel like i have no where to turn, maybe i should stop treatment and let my skin heal?!
Sorry to hear about your trouble. I dumed the cetaphil as I felt it was not working for my skin.
I use aloe vera gel (helps with healing and scarring) and tea tree oil on the spots and this has calmed mine down.
I'm five weeks in on 20mg every other day and doing ok. I'm sure you should be getting better by now. Can you get an appointment with a dermatologist or see your GP for some antibiotics like eurythromyicin??
Are you drinking enough water? This is helping with my skin at the moment. I'm drinking a litre a day of pure water.
Hope you skin gets better soon,
Emma.

I do have some pure aloe vera so i could try that i suppose. just seems odd that its worked for the rest of my face, the right side is clear so why would it cause trouble else where :/
I have booked an appointment for next tuesday morning.
drinking at least 1ltre a day but wake up feeling hung over, like dry mouth and head ache! so yeah think i'll be stopping it next tuesday, will see what my derm has to say.
seems like i have two choices, carry on and try to get to the 6 months or stop and let the natural healing process recover and hope that the trapped pores on my forehead start to work there way out
help
also please follow this guy on youtube, he has helped lift my spirits at times and you can see what an effect accutane can have even on the most severe cases

It is a tricky one. I know i'd probably want to stop too. Hopefully your derm will be able to suggest something that will work. Have you had your bloods done recently?
Did I suggest omega 369 to you? Since I started that my skin has improved slightly.
I have a slight outbreak today, it's hormonal, all around chin and a few random ones like at the end of my eyebrow and temple.
We will get there, eventually!
Keep positive and see what the derm says
Will check the video out soon.
Yeah i think i suggested the 3 6 9 to you actually lol..
I have started taking them, sainsburys own. Today I have not taken my accutane. Going to stop. TBH i don't want permanently thinner skin or skin that is weaker to the elements and the sun.
My derm said its totally up to me and that i've done it for nearly 5 months, she normally sets a time limit of 6 months for low dose but we are close enough. Ive arranged to see her on the coming tuesday.
But tbh all i have are some small trapped pores across the forehead and some are inflaming again (nightmare), meaning more red marks. This is a normal process though, its the bodies way of ridding the bad stuff. So yeah i want my skin to recover, heal the remaining black heads naturally and quicker than if i stayed on accutane and for the red marks to heal quicker too and allow the head aches to go away. I think its a sign that my body is telling me to stop. so I am going to call it a day and see how i go - i think its very important to listen to your body, and i know that i don't want to keep pushing it.
I think the law of demising returns has taken place for me and taking more will only stand to cause more shall we say 'problems' than its worth.
going to take the 369 daily, and order something called Hydraplenish Hyaluronic Acid as it helps with joints and pretty much the side effects of tane. Also going to look into a really good multi vitamin, mineral, pro biotic, and green powder. such as daily biobasics.
its au natural from here on in.
Hi,
New to the thread. Very interesting reading everyones, different dosages and outcomes. I had acne, not badly but enough to where I am fed up dealing with it given im 25. I decided to take accutane after my best friend got on it and had awesome results. However, our doctors have taken very different approaches. her doctor prescribed her 80/mg a day right away. She was on the regimen for 5-6 months I believe. Her side effects were chapped lips, blurry night vision, joint pain, fatigue, nose was super dry, peeling of skin, thinning of the skin.
In her experience she advised me to not use any oil on my face. So everything I have put on it is oil free, from make up to lotion. The medicine is trying to dry out the oil and shrink your pores, the last thing you need to do is put more oil in there. She used aquaphor for her lips. Cera Ve facial cleanser and face lotion.
Her skin turned out flawless and was probably that way by month 3.
My doctor however is more conservative and will not put me on a dose higher than 60mg to control side effects. My first month I was on 40mg/day then second month went to 60/mg day and have been there since. I am approaching the end of my third month. The end of my second month my skin was completely clear, but during the third month starting getting small pimples here and there. This may be bc I missed some doses. My doctor said once I finished my 6th month I can continue with a mini dose of 20mg a day. Apparently its all about building it up in your system to a certain cumulative amount.
I have had cracked lips and cracks on the corner of the mouth that wont heal and my lips are super dry and always cracking. I use every lip balm possible and aquaphor. I also got a cold and it caused my nose to become raw very easily. Also I have found that it takes things a long time to heal, which is odd because for my best friend, anything on her face healed quickly. I havent had as severe side effects however besides dry skin, fatigue, chapped lips. I also am getting these pumps on my chest and arms I never had. My skin is improving however. Im however not noticing it helping with the reduction of scarring which I thought it did.
I see a lot of you with cystic acne on only 20mg. You wont see results for a while taking that low of a dose however the lower the dose, the less side effects you suffer. So if your sensitive to medication I would stick to the lower dosage and be on the medication longer. If you body isnt sensitive go for a 60-80 mg dosage everyday and you will see results quicker but will suffer harsher side effects. My doctor is also pairing my absorbica with a medication used to treat hormonal acne. Using both diligently helps tremendously.
Yeah i think i suggested the 3 6 9 to you actually lol..

Lol you actually did reccomend the 369, proves I listened to you!!!
I totally respect you decision , you have to listen to what your bodys telling you and it's probably not worth it. Really hoping your skin starts to heal, slap a lot of aloe vera on and tea tree on spots/blackheads! I sound repetitve but I can't reccomend these enough.
I take holland and barret probiotics and pretty much have done for years http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/holland-barrett-mega-potency-acidophilus-capsules-60001540
Let me know how you get on with the derm Tuesday and hope you'll stay in touch on here wheatever the outcome
Emma.
I have a question for those who are on Accutane or who have been on accutane...before I began Accutane I decided to be abstinent, I'm not sexually active right now or won't be anytime soon so I decided there's no point in me taking Birthcontrol...anyways my period has been super irregular it's been over a month already on accutane and I want to take Birthcontrol so bad, will this cause a delay on accutane? Will I have to stop taking it the first month I'm on the pill? I don't think it matters when I begin the pill because it's just for my period. Also would I need to tell my derm? And in the bloodwork will they know I'm on Birthcontrol? Please help thanks
Hi emma, thanks for the reply.
wish you all the best on your journey, for me i am not sure if it was worth it tbh, there are just too many what if's in my case that i am not comfortable with.
either way everyone has come to this decision for a personal reason and as long as you stand by that personal reason and truly feel this is the only option then thats great, no regrets.

I may try aloe vera, just i want my body to repair itself with no intervention. I think thats the key message I have learnt (for me) is that my body is darn good at repairing itself, and i feel naive to have been on medication that compromises that. But at the same time, when you reach breaking point and nothing seems to work...I learnt that for me, it wasn't just about the spots, it was about how and what i think of them and they way they affect my mood. I have learned that having them is *ok* and normal.. there are worse things in life. truly.now, if Accutane had been all roses for me, no doubt i'd be singing its praises. Don't get me wrong it cleared my back up, my back feels baby butt smooth. my clogs under the eyes around the nose disappeared within a matter of weeks. the only gripe i have is some scarring, and the delay healing time. So hoping these clear up asap.Even now it would be hard for me to advise someone in a similar position as me not to try accutane for the very reason that it could help tremendously as it does in many many many people..if i was advising someone with more severe acne, i'd say do it 100% and get on a high dose proportionate to your body weight per kg. I dont think accutane is something you want to drag out longer than need be because the skin wont heal as well whilst on it. hit it hard and fast, if your body can tollerate it and get off it and allow the body to repair itself, even though i have stopped for 2 days (today being day 2) i have had 2 spots come up, one of which has lingered on my face for 6 months at least, so at least now it can come to a head and be gone. I really think 369 help a lot at changing ones sebum viscosity@allinson,Hi, thanks for sharing. I know that feeling of being fed up. Seems like your pal had great results! how is she doing now in terms of health? joints ok? has the oil returned? (btw people oil is not the enemy, oil is good its your bodies own way of protecting itself.. what is the problem however is how the body excretes this and how the skin talks to the oil glands and skin shedding keratinisation process at a base level). It sounds to me like these bumps are appearing from the rough drying affects accutane has on the skin, sort of like KP. Are these bumps filled with pus or just bumps? I don't think you started getting bumps because you missed some doses. Its just the effect it can have on some people.. but yes the accumulative amount is important with this drug. Not sure if you are from the UK but get hold of Blistex Intensive moisturiser. that was the only thing that healed my cracked lips. The healing time isnt odd, its what the medication does, it slows the healing rate down, so your friend was a match made in heaven if thats the results she got!the scarring, do you mean red marks or do you mean indentations and atrophic scars? the skin overall should actually get better once off the accutane because the bodies natural healing process comes back into full swing.I agree with your final paragraph.good luck!either way everyone has come to this decision for a personal reason and as long as you stand by that personal reason and truly feel this is the only option then thats great, no regrets.
Fabulous advice!!
I'm having it easy really, which just goes to show we do not all respond the same.
Do try the aloe vera, it is natural and if you go to a big tesco you can get in there for less than amazon http://www.tesco.com/direct/aloe-pura-aloe-vera-skin-gel/671-1929.prd .

It moisturises but i would put light moisturiser on once the aloe vera drys.
Don't get the aloe vera near eyes as it can sting.

How long have you been off the pill? It takes time for periods to return to normal.
I would keep off the pill
And use a period tracker app to track your periods for a few month. A 22-30 day cycle is normal.
Mine ranges from 22 26 24 to 30 and I've been of the pill for six years.
Failing that speak to your Gp. Hope this helps
Just checkin in guys
72kg male taking clarivis, day 24
Just saw my derm last week, and up until now I have experienced zero major side effects at 40mg so she decided to increase the dosage to 80mg/day, and I love the suggestion. Honestly while I was driving over to see her I was unsure what she would say because my face is looking better already. I was actually scared she would tell me I didnt need to take the tane anymore, so her committment to helping me by upping the dosage was like a weight lifted off my shoulders.
Only side effects I have noticed have been the headcahes. Not terrible and not worse than the ones I had from school before I started the course. The remedy i came up with to just take the pills before bed so I could sleep through the headaches no longer works because I have to take 1 in the morning and 1 at night, but its ok.
Accutane is delivered and considered medically in terms of a cumulative dosage. For most people it takes 120mg of accutane for every kilogram of bodyweight to kill acne for good. So me at 72 kg should technically need around 8600 total mg of accutane. My brother needed 91mg/kg.
At 40mg, I was only getting 16mg/kg per month. to reach 120mg/kg it would have taken nearly 8 months. screw that. So I agree with her decision to up it to 33mg/kg per month.
Still have had zero major side effects but I havent been taking 80mg/day for a whole week yet. I will keep everyone updated as much as possible.
Cheers guys,
There will be an end.

Sounds like you are responding well. Glad you're not having side effects. I've been luck so far but have had and still having severe headaches/migraines. It's hard to distinguish if it's the tane or women's troubles but today I have major pain behind my ear and all over one side of my head. Low mood today due to the pain and fatigued. Anyone else had the same headache?
I've had the headache to start off with, but it seems to have subsided over the last few weeks. I don't think I was drinking enough water on roaccutane and I've ramped up my water intake, but I wonder if it's something to do with taking it with/without a fat rich meal. The instructions advise this and for the first week, I was just taking it with a bit of cereal. I've changed to lunch time and it's gone.
Seven weeks in, skin getting
Better. I have eight spots
A few of these are cystic.
Side effects are in full force, bad head all weekend and the worst tierdness I have ever experienced.
Had blood test today and seeing derm next Monday so if there's anything going on at least I will know soon.
Had to take day off work today due to the tierdness. Sleeping ten hours a night and still exhausted

I'm at the derm next Monday so will let you know what he says.
Emma.
Hi emma, thanks for the reply.
wish you all the best on your journey, for me i am not sure if it was worth it tbh, there are just too many what if's in my case that i am not comfortable with.
I may try aloe vera, just i want my body to repair itself with no intervention. I think thats the key message I have learnt (for me) is that my body is darn good at repairing itself, and i feel naive to have been on medication that compromises that. But at the same time, when you reach breaking point and nothing seems to work...
I learnt that for me, it wasn't just about the spots, it was about how and what i think of them and they way they affect my mood. I have learned that having them is *ok* and normal.. there are worse things in life. truly.
now, if Accutane had been all roses for me, no doubt i'd be singing its praises. Don't get me wrong it cleared my back up, my back feels baby butt smooth. my clogs under the eyes around the nose disappeared within a matter of weeks. the only gripe i have is some scarring, and the delay healing time. So hoping these clear up asap.
Even now it would be hard for me to advise someone in a similar position as me not to try accutane for the very reason that it could help tremendously as it does in many many many people..
if i was advising someone with more severe acne, i'd say do it 100% and get on a high dose proportionate to your body weight per kg. I really think 369 help a lot at changing ones sebum viscosity
@allinson,
Hi, thanks for sharing.
The healing time isnt odd, its what the medication does, it slows the healing rate down, so your friend was a match made in heaven if thats the results she got!
the scarring, do you mean red marks or do you mean indentations and atrophic scars? the skin overall should actually get better once off the accutane because the bodies natural healing process comes back into full swing.
I agree with your final paragraph.
good luck!
either way everyone has come to this decision for a personal reason and as long as you stand by that personal reason and truly feel this is the only option then thats great, no regrets.
Good luck
Does this moisturise as well or is it just for red marks really?
It moisturises but i would put light moisturiser on once the aloe vera drys.
Don't get the aloe vera near eyes as it can sting.
Please help thanks
.
You weren't wrong about the aloe Vera stinging your eyes!!! I tried this for the first time yesterday and even a little bit was painful!!

I keep my eyes closed when using it. Been using it for a year now. Don't expect over night results!

Guys I can't post anything- why
Try now
So, I'm on week seven now.
Got a few new ones this week and one on my neck which is massive but has been up and down for seven week, photos to follow.
Seeing the derm On Monday and hoping my bloods ok as I had a bad weekend with a migraine.
Also, used to have a spotty rash on my chest which disappeared around week one. I have a nasty looking spot now on my chest and never had any there before.
Hope everyone is well
And skin getting clearer, be nice to hear from you all,
Emma
Hi Emmy
I haven't posted for a while! Sorz!
I went to Vegas! Wore my factor 110+ out in sun a wee bit. Had a big hat on! So no sunburn had a wee drinkie too had no problems there! Vodka and cranberry was fine. So vegas was fab!
Air con inside hotels dried me up completely! Lips were so sore (
Have been on 30mg a day since October 13th due to see doc again tomorrow. I felt that I was getting used to the side effects a bit but have found I'm suffereing from intolerance personality wise! I'm not taking any crap! Ha my boyfriend thinks I've been a bit of a ninny! And I've had a bad hip. Gonna start the cod liver oil to see if that helps. I'm hoping to stay on this dose for another month.
My skin has got worse but pert of the process I guess
(
How are you guys? Xx
Hi Emmy,
You sound similar to me, I randomly got a massive one on the back of my neck and one on my chest too! Strange huh? Apart from that though, touch wood I've practically got nothing new and the existing ones are starting to fade. This time last week I got a couple on my cheek and a tough one on my neck but they seem to have subsided now and just a little bit red.
There is literally no oil on my face at all now even after moisturising and my mood feels a lot better. I'm on day 39 and aside from the initial outbreak and the fact my joints/leg muscles kill after a 5 mile run, all seems ok. (I used to do 3 per week and I struggle to do 2 now!) 20 mg intermittent dosing is a lot more tolerable than say 40mg per day from experience.
Do you get dry lips at all? I've been amazed how dry my lips have been on 10mg a day to be honest and I didn't notice it was this bad when I previously took 40!
Jon

Hello,
Nice to hear from you.
Yes lips very dry, think I have tired every lip balm going now!! Skin not oily at all now which is one of the best things about being on the tane. I was so oily I looked sweaty!
I'm about to write an update so have a read.
I have had to stop my weigh training, it was exhausting me and I was in pain the other day. Don't know how your managing your run, I'd be bed bound for a week if i attempted that!!!
Week 8 update:
No change from week 7. Neck cyst still there, it's been here 7weeks and refuses
To go!
Still very tired and headaches.
Saw the derm today, we have decided to increase dose to 20mg everyday rather than every other day. If I feel I can't tolerate this I will revert back to ever other. I will have a review in three month.
Blood work fine, I'm happy about that!!!
Hallo everybody.... Ok so I started on the 5th of Nov..... SKin is still feeling ok, not dry or anything, lips start to feel abit funny, but not dry at all.
My back aches so bad that I actually want to start crying just by saying it ( I'm a real baby since I'm on these damn tablets.....)
My skin still looks okay'ish ..... a few spots every single morning, and I just want to SQUEEEEEEZZZZZEEEE them!!!!!
The headaches are really bad, I don't know what to do, because I can't drink pain killers every single time my head aches!!!!! I am just over a week in this thing ( 10 days) and I have this severe tiredness... want to go to bed by 20h00....told you guys I am like a real baby....
Guess this is all be over -time flies when you are having fun
Oh yes and I get this very strange pain in my chest- is it serious? shoul I worry about it?
