Hello everybody, this is my first post on here and let me start of by saying I love this site! It has has helped me so much with my acne and the encouragement from everybody is amazing!
Anyways, I've been on Accutane for 3 months, starting my 4th month in about a week. At my latest checkup, my derm said my acne was getting better, but I still have a couple cysts and redness in my face. He recommended me to take tetracycline, saying it will help calm down the breakouts and decrease redness, cysts, etc.
I was glad to hear this at first! How does that not sound great?! But after I got home and luckily did some research, I found people saying that taking tetracycline while on Accutane can cause serious brain damage and it is highly unrecommended.
My question is, my derm prescribed me to it, so is it safe? I'm on 120mg of accutane right now by the way.
Please help me out!!
I would speak to your pharmacist before you take it, doctors do make errors all the time (I'm a pharmacy technician and see this on a daily basis). It is not advisable to take these together like you said it can cause swelling in the brain. I personally wouldn't want to risk it but if your doctor and pharmacist agree it's ok then just look out for symptoms like headaches, vomiting and vision problems.
