Hey guys,
Im a 17 year old male and i had acne from the start of pubery to the start of Accutane. Accutane really was a blessing. Many people complain of th side effects, and i havent done much research on the extreme long term side effects that may not appear for years. But, ive been off Accutane for about 2 weeks now, and i can say the achey bones are begining to heal, though i do still get jaw lock when yawning, my redness is still pretty bad, everyone says i look like an apple when i laugh or am nervous. I can also say some oiliness is already returning on my nose and forehead (oh crap). I do feel like ive lossed a good bit of hair, my hairline has receded. Whats weird also is i didnt grow much facial hair on accutane, but having been off for a little bit, it is growing faster now (this may have nothing to do with accutane) I also gained around 10 lbs while on accutane, which some people might say is impossible and not due to Accutane, but i think accutane increased my appetite, i hardly ever had the feeling of being full while on accutane, and when i did it only lasted 15 mins or so. Now that im off of accutane my appetite is gone. Im a little worried because i literally get full on a few chips, i went out to eat the other day with my family and the waitress looked at me like i was crazy after asking for a to go box, having only eaten 4 pop corn shrimp, and drunk some tea. Some might think this is good, but i dont know if i should contact my dermatologist, and has anyone experienced this after finish accutane? Overall Accutane has helped me gain more friends, gain higher self asteem, and my face looks great! I think these side effects are well worth it as long as they arent long term or permenate (which im worried they might be by the looks of other posts) Also, i know it could take up to a few years to heal the redness, but are there ways to ease the redness? My last question is can a dermatologist prescribe any medications for hair growth, like Finasteride, to a 17 year old. (If its even appropriate for me to ask about that here)
Thanks,
Would love to answer any questions from current or future accutane users about the side effects ive experienced.
Finasteride is for MPB. I don't think it would help and its side effects are even worse then accutanes. For people in our situation we just have to give it time and usually the hair returns to normal. As far as the appetite thing I can't say I experienced anything like that.
lack of appetitie, achy joints and hair loss, Accutane might affected your thyroid! If you still are having issues in a couple weeks then have some labs done. Do Not Take Finasteride for your hair loss. If you have a family hx of MPB then it could speed up the process. See the hair loss thread, it could be caused by numerous things from Accutane, hormones, iron etc...
Good Luck
