So I was just prescribed doxycyclin for my acne and skin irritation due to a change of birth control and tretinoin. Has anyone used it? Was it helpful? My derm told me it should clear me up in 2 weeks to a month but how long does it usually take to work on someone with moderate-severe acne?
I took doxy about 4 years ago. I was on it for 3 months before I was completely clear (I also had moderate to severe acne) but I was seeing some improvements a little before then. I stopped taking it in the third or fourth month and stayed clear for about a month after stopping before my skin returned to how it was before the antibiotics were in my system. I think antibiotics are a good quick fix, and work well while you take them, but they're not something I'm comfortable with taking long term.
temporary fix until what? did the derm had anything else more serious in mind? doctors keep suggesting me antibiotics, but while doxycyclyne worked great (+zynerit topically) cleared me in a few weeks, after 1year or so it all came back with a vengeance and bad immunity. so why the hell are they still suggesting it? there has to be something else underneath this i would naturally assume.
Well my new birth control is supposed to be good for acne, but its pretty much destroyed my face for the past month and a half along with my accidental over use of the tretinoin. It's been a day on the doxy and I already see a huge improvement in my skin, which is really unexpected because nothing has ever made this drastic an improvement so fast.. I have no new break outs and everything else has kinda shrunk away and my redness has gone down so much, my only complaint is how dry my skin feels. I'm really excited about these results though! Hopefully when I go off of it in a couple months I can try and maintain good skin. I'm eating greek yogurt daily to try and replace the good bacteria it's killing, so perhaps that will help with any immunities the bacteria build up? Should I take a probiotic too?
i was on Doxy a year and some change ago around. Everyone has different results from medications. The only thing i must warn you of is the sensitivity you will gain from it, mostly from the sun. Im soo serious, just standing outside will make your face and palms feeling like burning acid. Wear some type of spf or limit sun exposure.
From what i remember my derm said a 2 or 3 months till results- but thats just me!
Yeah the antibiotic route is just a temporary fix if that. I've been on one for 2 months now and am seeing somewhat of an improvement, I do notice that any spot i get goes away a lot faster than it would otherwise. Regardless, I am still breaking out but this will hold me over until I can get on accutane, I feel as if this is my best option as I have tried all the other methods. It's going to be awhile before I can get it since I have not even approached my derm about the matter yet. So, I do think antibiotics can be put to good use for acne but only to hold you over in between treatments. Make sure to take a qoogdquality probiotic as well, good luck!
