Just Started On Roaccutane (20Mg For The First Month)

Hi,

I've recently started Roaccutane (accutane) and I'm on my fifth day. I'm starting on a dosage of 20mg for the 1st month then upping it to 40mg for the 2nd month. The dermatologist said i will probably need a 4 month course but I'm not sure how high my dosage will go to.

I've had acne since i was 10 and I'm now 22 :( It's never been severe but it's moderate acne and ALWAYS there. Going on Roaccutane as a last-ditch attempt.

Just wondering about how people found the drug who have suffered with acne for a long time? When to expect dryness? When do you usually get an initial breakout?

Many thanks,

SnowflakeSloth (generated username - I quite like sloths and it's nearly Christmas so I went with it)

You can expect dryiness by the end of your first month, it comes in goes in waves. You'll learn accutane is a weird medication and it can do some crazy things to you. My Inital breakout was about month 2 and I broke out until month 5. I was clear by month 6. I thought accutane was a success until 6 months later. I started getting acne again.

Hi,

Thanks for replying!

I'm now a week in. I think I'm starting to get dry lips but the weather has just got really cold as well so that could be why. Ive read a few things that being on a lower dosage can help to reduce side affects. What dosage were you on?

Hi! I'm also in the UK, I finished my 5 and 1/2 month course of Roaccutane 1 month ago. Check out my log for the photos, I am very pleased with the results :)

I got my initial breakout around the end of month 1 but for some this can come earlier or a lot later.

My best advice has to be to stay positive, which is something I failed to do throughout my course. Sure, your lips will be dry and might hurt, but just try to think about the end goal which will be your beautiful skin. :)
