Just Finished And Relapsing Already?!

Bit of background first,

Did about 5 months on 40mg of accutane, had to stop due to liver values being raised because of mono, finally resumed my course 3 months after stopping (my derm assured me this would be fine, contrary to most else I've read). Resumed on a dose of 60mg for about 2 months, in total I've calculated that I have reached my cumulative dose. Skin was looking great towards the end of the course, interestingly I was still breaking out a bit before I had to come off the first time but I cleared up after coming off. Fast forward to now, I took my last pills last Wednesday. On Sunday I noticed two large red marks starting to form near my mouth, these became more prominent the following day and are still there today, along with two new small but not unnoticeable whiteheads and a couple of worrying looking red marks...

What's going on?! I had always thought that following accutane I would not have to worry about my skin any more. It surely seems too soon for this to be a full relapse, I'm really hoping it'll go away but is anyone able to shed any light on this? It's horrible to have gone from having pretty clear skin to this and it's getting me down. Thanks

give it at least a month and if your face does not improve go back to your derm and they can take it from there. You may need to use a topical on your face as these are usually more effective after accutane. Keep us updated mate

I don't know who told you after accutane you wouldn't have too worry about your skin! Many have taken more then you or longer too only have it not work or come back a few yrs later! Do a search on this board! Anyways Roche does state accutane continues too work up too 2 months or so after course is over

Ok thanks, I'll keep this updated and will definitely go back to my derm if things don't improve over the next month. I guess what's concerning me is that these spots aren't like the ones I had whilst on accutane, they haven't dried up quickly, theyre more like those which I used to get before/ at the start of my course... I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens, if anyone has experienced a breakout straight after coming off accutane it'd be great to hear what happened!

My cousin took accutane and his acne came back, not as severe but still fairly bad. Accutane isn't necessarily a cure-all.

Ok been about 2 months since I stopped so just thought I'd pop by and update... Luckily that breakout disappeared within the week and I've not had anything similar since. My skin (or possibly just my perception of it) fluctuates, some days it seems perfect then other days not so much! What I would say though is that whilst it may not be perfect, it is so much better than it was. I've had the occasional blemish pop up which makes me fear a relapse but they always subside pretty quick, so much so that I haven't seen it necessary to book in to see the derm again.

The one thing I'm hoping will improve though is skin texture, I'm not too fussed about red marks that I know will fade, my skin is just a little bumpy and rough still, particularly on my forehead
