My initial symptoms were exactly those, abdominal pain and constipation.

Accutane was a drug made to cure coloncancer. They found that it also helped with the reduction of acne. Itstrips the lining of your intestines. Certain things eg toxins thencant be absorbed, so no new acne. Also, it messes with ones hormoneseg.testosterone reduction, and that also prevents acne. Blood sugar is altered too.

Aftet I had a CT scan and a colonoscopy they saw a mass at the cecum, located where the small intestine meets the large intestine. My hypothesis is,the small intestine was stripped of its lining then itgatheredat the cecum/ileum creating an obstruction (the mass).

The doctors did a bowel resection. After that, I had major issues because the bowel was not sealed up well. They used staples to seal and attach the small to the large intestine. This is when my weight dropped over 90lbs. I then had an ileostomy put in because I was literally dying. 18 months later they reversed it and this time I asked for stitches rather than thoseworthlessstaples. Still rocking it to this day without any bowel surgeries. However, when I was going through this trauma, I noticed I couldnt think properly. Didnt know what the heck was going on, but this was when the pituitary tumour was impacting my mentality.

They then removed the tumour, and now Istill have testosterone/SHBG, andinsulin/blood sugarissues, Crohns Disease, andanxiety plague me as well.

Wow ... it was really pain but slight, after time it got better too much, I think accutane was damaging my intestines, but I have no fever, diarrhea, pain or anything like that.I also did a computerized tomography and they found all my normal intestines no inflammation as IBD and colitis cause intestinal inflammation, I think that accutane altered my flora and I have to recover it. I don't have the symptoms of IBS but I know I alter my bacteria and create an imbalance. Also mention that I do not have constipation and food restriction, I can eat everything and as much as I wantwithout producing gas or discomfort.

Hi everyone...
I'm new on this website and discover that all of my burden came from one "insignificant" thing: acutane.
Took it 8 years ago, and since then, no libido, pain in the pelvis, anorgasmia, fatigue and anhedonia are the worst symptom i got (And with all the info i gathered those last two month i also understood that my diet had an impact on it ...)

So i read some studies on this thread, don't really know now what to do or what i should begin with...

Do anybody have recovered from long term damage ?
I want so badly to heard a yes ...

I have not experienced that, but in previous threads there was a lot of discussion about it, in my case I masturbate to check that accutane did not affect my sexual desire, and I think it did not, I think the symptoms vary a lot from the dose administered, what was the dose and how long it was with accutane?

unfortunalety it's impossible to find the prescription, so i can't tell for how long i took it and the dosage...
Only thing i know is that it was 8 years ago...

Isotretinoin is known to cause gut dysbiosis, unfortunately no one knows how to revert it.

"Acne patients can receive isotretinoin which is well established in the mucosal side effects profile. The probable incidence of ulcerative colitis further reflects this mucosal toxicity. Isotretinoin has also an effect on the renewal of stem cells. Should there be an isotretinoin induced mucosal atrophy, a long-term or even permanent impact may be expected; leading to serious effects, frequent gastroenterology visits and explorations, and thus to health expenditure".

Severe acne treated with Isotretinoin is associated with dysbiosis and its consequences:

It is really strange because I have no bloating or diarrhea and I can digest all kinds of food without problems and my stools are brown, anyway this would not be happening if I had not accepted the damn pills.

Find a good Traditional Chinese Medicine/Acupuncturist, and a Functional Medicine doctor.

Those are the only two types of medicine that can help us. Standard Biomedicine doesn't even believe Accutante is the root problem

unfortunately thats still no guarantee working with analternative doctor!

currently working with silver & platinum tinctures to break down more gut biofilms, mainly bacteria although these tinctures are also used against viruses Im told

Unfortunately still have reflux issues, high cholesterol, insulin issues and now testosterone issues.

Also now have 5 xXenon treatments under the belt, hope to re test blood soon to see an improvement at cellular lvl.or not

Gut dysbiosis can be corrected with black currant and brown seaweed pills. I believe the drug is radioactive, and remains trapped in the body for years. Brown seaweed is excellent for removing radioactive material from the body. Beef liver is loaded with preformed retinol, and black currant prevents beta glucuronidase, which is a gut enzyme that helps keep accutane in the body. Below is the current program. Will keep the board posted.

Daily supplements
Beef liver
Fish eggs
Black currant
Brown seaweed
Broccoli sprouts

Diet
Omnivore
Organic when possible

Avoid
Soy
Pork
Alcohol
Tobacco
Black tea
Artificial sweeteners
Artificial preservatives

Home water treatment
Chlorine filter/water softener

I took accutane 15 years ago.

After 6 weeks, of taking the drug, I became severally constipated with great abdominal discomfort. After a few more days, I went to the emergency department at the the hospital because things werent getting any better. It was thought that I had missed appendicitis. It was then determined that I had Crohns Disease. This would lead to surgery to remove the damaged intestine. I had a total of 7 feet of small, 1 foot of large and the cecum/ileum area removed. Complications arose and I would require another surgery to have a temporary ileostomy for 18 months, so that I could eat and heal. I went from 222 lbs down to 131 lbs.

I had the ileostomy reversal surgery and noticed my hands and feet swelling. I went to an urgent care and they never had an answer. Time went on and I found that I was hungry, extremely hungryall of the time! My sleep declined to 1-2 hours per night. 2 hours was seldom. I went on vacation and my mother took notice of my situation and the change in food and sleep habits, but more importantly, the attitude/personality changes. I become someone that I was not. In addition to my hands and feet, my face was swollen as well, especially my nose. I scheduled a doctors appointment.

Returning home I visited an endocrinologist whom I was referred to by my family physician. He determined that I could have a pituitary tumour. The saddest day yet. I did another blood test and he noticed that my IGF-1 was through the roof. A reading of almost two thousand where the normal was under two hundred. The MRI proved this, and the tumour was almost 3 cm in diameter. They scheduled the transsphenoidal surgery.

The neurosurgeon said, the surgery went well and that the tumour peeled off nicely. Unfortunately, I developed bacterial meningitis, which required a spinal tap, and another few weeks in the hospital.

I now see the endocrinologist every six months. A few years after surgery, 7 years ago, my blood results showed normal IGF-1, but now determined that I had high SBGH. A 99.9 reading, and sadly, almost a perfect score. He gave me testosterone administered nasally twice daily, I believe. I couldnt take it as it had a mental impact on me, and my anxiety. Oddly, he said said they stopped producing this type of testosterone. I havent enquired about any other types of testosterone because Im somewhat afraid because of how I reacted to the first doses. It didnt work for me, but I maybe I didnt give it enough time. I felt worse and angry when I took it, so that is why I stopped. It was also determined that I have high sodium which seems minor at this point.

I experience issues with Crohns Disease every day. I dont sit upright well. I lie in bed 80% or more of the time. My current battle is anxiety. OCD was developed too 6-7 years ago. I have panic attacks with extreme sweating and shaking. Brain fog once caused me to wash my hands for 3 hours. I notice that eating sugar/candy eases the anxiety, but obviously doesnt cure it. I go to the gym regularly, but have stopped exercising due to covid lockdowns and the gyms being closed. Public washrooms were closed too, so venturing off by foot wasnt an option for someone with Crohns.

When eating healthier choices of food and then start losing body fat, I become extremely anxious. When exercising, I have to push super hard to see results. And if I do see results, they go away as I have a constant hunger for sugary foods. It seems as if my insulin wants to be high all of time. Or my blood sugar doesnt like to be low. High insulin is reducing my testosterone which will not allow me to gain muscle.

My SHBG (sex hormone binging globulin) is still high, not 99, but still around 75. I need to get it to 50ish, but I cant. It seems impossible. There isnt a drug or anything that can help reduce SHBG. That is why the doctors prescribe testosterone, but my testosterone levels are normal. There is a correlation between the high SHBG and my anxiety. When I developed the OCD, my SHBG was severally high. Unfortunately, my testicles have decreased in size too.

I once read here, 2 years ago, that someone mentioned to look at the liver and the kidneys for the problems we are experiencing. I remember years ago getting a CT scan on my liverand theradiologist seeing something abnormal on theimages. I now want to investigate this further, but not sure how itll help.

I used to monitor my blood sugar, via a glucometer, and noticed it would drop in the red zone a few times. I remember the feeling, the shaking, the sweating. Where a reading of 5-6 was normal, I was getting a reading of 1 when feeling this way. It was hard to preform the test as I was shaking and had a horrible, bad mood.

I ate chili last night with no sugar. After 20 minutes or so I had the shaking, sweating and pissy mood. Little bit of brain fog too and hard to focus and concentrate. Not sure of what to do now

High SHBG could also be caused by hyperthyroidism or liver disease.

But i think many of us have normal testosterone production, but either extremely low (because of fatty liver, insulin resistance, hypothyroidism and inflammation)or high SHBG (because of liver disease or hyperthyroidism).

And how is your hair? With SHBG that high, i would think it's fine or am i wrong?

Lifesucks is correct about normal testicular T production and is correct about accutane induced liver disease. Accutane causes hypothyroidism because the thyroid relies on true retinol for normal function, but all it has to work with is fake vitamin A (accutane). The protocol I mentioned above is designed to restore liver function and remove the radioactive drug from the body. Broccoli sprouts are loaded with sulfurophane, which is crucial for nrf2 detox.

Hello everyone

It's been a while since I've been on here.

My symptoms right now brain fog, fatigue, erection problems, stomach aches, headaches, stomach bloating, throat aches, poor vision, trouble sleeping.

My progress: I can get rid of all of these except bloating and stomach aches, but only if I follow a keto diet. Only problem is I can't pick up any weight which is due to fat malabsorption which is why I get bloated and stomach aches.

My next step is to try and add probiotics and milk thistle (both of which I have not tried yet).

I'll be keep everyone updated on my progress.

What I eat:

Two meals a day. First meal at 1pm and second meal at 7pm. Fast and drink lots of water in between.

- Chicken, meat, fish - not cooked in oil and nothing but sea salt added.

- Unheated ORGANIC coconut oil or Extra virgin olive oil.

- Low carb vegetables

After each meal:

- I take two tablespoons of organic ACV diluted in some water.

- Digestive enzymes: Enzymedica Lypo Gold Fat Digestion.

- Omega 3

- Potassium

- Magnesium

The only problem is I cannot sustain this diet because I end up losing too much weight.

Liver flushing is also something I want to try out.

Fat malabsorption happens due to a lack of true retinol in the body. Fake retinol (accutane) doesn't cut it for fat absorption. I'm quite surprised you're able to tolerate the evco and evoo. My body always reacts horribly to coconut oil due to the anti androgenic lauric acid component of coconut oil. Evoo lowers dht also, so that's also a problem for me. And omega 3 for me needs to come from whole fish or fish eggs, since isolated pufa is like poison to my liver. I've tried acv in the past and it was awful on my teeth and bones. Way too acidic. For me, magnesium supplements always causes diarrhea.

I would end up severely dehydrated on that diet above. No carbs. Carbs are crucial to maintain my body's hydration. Organic fruits and whole grains, but only when my body asks for them. My body has always had a preference for fat post accutane due to a lack of true retinol in my body. My hope is my current program can correct this.

Ps...the throat aches come from hypothyroidism. Once you start replacing fake retinol (accutane) with true retinol, the hypothyroidism resolves and the throat pain resolves.

True retinol is crucial for the circadian rhythm and also for vision.

I believe accutane causes different issues for different people because it becomes trapped in different tissues for each person, thus causing some differentiation from person to person. My program above is designed to hopefully pull accutane from all body tissues and replenish true retinol in all body tissues.

I can't make any promises, as I'm not recovered, at least not yet. It does feel like I'm headed in the right direction. I have a quantum biofeedback machine, and the machine has always recommended laminaria, black currant, Crucifers, and carotenoid rich foods like apricots and pumpkin. It also recommends beef liver on and off. I believe the machine can detect accutane in my body, and tries to counteract it with carotenoid rich foods like apricots and pumpkin. Accutane I believe is radioactive, and laminaria (brown seaweed) has been shown to remove radioactive material from the body. The machine detects radiation in multiple parts of my body. I believe this is radioactive retinoic acid.

Amazon has solaray bladderwrack, modifilan, and two brands of kelp that are not contaminated with extra iodine. If you type in kelp capsules at amazon you need to keep scrolling down until you find brands that do not list iodine amount on the back of the label. If it lists iodine amount it is garbage.

Pure organic is my brand of broccoli sprouts. Perfect liver is my brand of beef liver. 1-2 capsules of beef liver or 1.5 grams is about right. Swanson is my brand of full spectrum black currant. Terravita also sells black currant berry capsules. Avoid brands that list standardized extracts with percent symbols. Ancestral supplements sells fish eggs but they are overpriced, currently unavailable, and I believe is the least important component. You could probably go without the fish eggs. Whole fish such as starkist tuna salad or other seafood is important though. Will keep the board posted.

Hair is good. My thyroid seems to be good too as per the many blood tests I completed.Unless there is somethingwrong that isntshowingup within myblood work.

Regarding the liver, two things come to mind:

1.That CT Scan that I had, that I had in the past, that boggled the doctor. Hestatedhe wasnt sure what that was,as he was pointingto the image.

2. Im not sure if this is liver related, but seven years ago aftereatingpotato chips, two big bags, I noticed swelling of my nose after20 minutes after consumption. It was extremely bulbous. The next morningmy family and Iwent on a mini vacation. Out of embarrassment,I stayed in the hotel mostof our duration there. It was pretty hideous and people did take notice of the size when I did venture out. After a week, thankfully, mynosedid returnto its normal size!I do still notice swellingafter eating chips, fries, sunflower seeds, cashews or anything that is roasted(or deep fried) in oils. I now limit these foods. It fully makes sense there is something wrong with my liver, but the last two ultrasounds both came back negative.

I kinda given up of what to do it feels like theres something wrong. Does the liver play a factor with insulin resistance? Or as to how hungry I am immediately after justeating? Shortly after this experience,is when my ocd/brain fog etcetera actuallybegan.
I also get a feeling as if my heart is skipping a beat after eating oily foods. I should probably remove these from my diet.

Do I ask for a script of Testosterone? Andrisk thatit contributes to further messing up another piece of my anatomy?

Broccoli sprouts are available in powder or capsule form. Several brands are available on amazon. I'm currently using pure organic brand. If you take it, you should take it with beef liver pills or retinol pills because it sucks radioactive retinoic acid out of your cell nucleus which leaves a void that needs to be filled. I prefer whole beef liver pills over retinol pills because you get so much more nutrition with beef liver pills than what you get with a retinol pill. I'm also using brown seaweed pills to prevent reabsorption. Brown seaweed has alginic acid which binds to radioactive material and pulls it from the body. Solaray bladderwrack, biofilam, modifilan, or kelp pills that do not have added iodine are all good. Swanson black currant pills prevent beta glucuronidase. Not sure if it's necessary or not but I'm using it just in case.

The thyroid is involved with insulin resistance. The thyroid needs true retinol, which is impossible for your cell nucleus to absorb until the radioactive accutane is removed, which is the job of broccoli sprouts via nrf2.

I would stay away from testosterone Rx. It will shut down your body's own T production and shrink your testicles down to nothing. Once your liver and thyroid are back to good your testosterone levels will be good.

its an interesting theory but isnt the only thing going on post Accutane

Fixing my cholesterol, insulin and now testosterone is one part of the puzzle. I also know for a fact that my blood needs cleaning up which is why Ive invested in doing Xenon therapy

I also know my lymphatic system still needs more work

You might say all these issues stem from Tane still being trapped in the body and you could be right but Ive been advised to treat the blood problem separately to the other problems.

Theres no one magic bullet to fix problems, you must work on several things simultaneously I believe

Similar to others, Ive had nothing come back to say any issue with thyroid yet I do have issues with insulin, cholesterol and testosterone on blood tests..just saying

I completely agree there's more than one issue post accutane. I've had all kinds of issues. Someone's focus was testosterone and so I simply explained that thyroid and liver health is important for testosterone health. Insulin and T are hormones. The thyroid controls hormone sensitivity. I've learned that mainstream doctors tests are completely worthless and to embrace quantum biofeedback instead. The machine has always indicated a weak thyroid. Out of everything I've ever used, beef liver seems to help my thyroid the most, followed by brown seaweed, which is inline with what a naturopath would recommend for hypothyroid issues.

The machine has always indicated toxic blood for me as well. My blood is toxic because my liver is weak. Take the liver of a healthy grass fed cow over a period of time and that beef liver can help to heal the corresponding liver in your body. It's the concept of like heals like. Brown seaweed and broccoli sprouts are well known for cleaning up toxic blood.

For a long time retinol rich beef liver by itself would be impossible for me. Made me extremely ill. Same thing with cod liver oil. Broccoli sprouts seems to be solving that beef liver intolerance issue I believe because it's pulling 13 cis retinoic acid out of the cell nucleus and making room for real vitamin A from beef liver.Brown seaweed and broccoli sprouts are known for lymphatic cleansing also.

Nevertheless I'm not healed yet and all the info coming from me is just theory at this point. Will keep the board posted.

I had ablood test 11years ago and testosterone levels came back at 0.3. Pretty well a zero. There were other hormones out of the normal range as well. They were either super high or near zero.

My Family Doctor denied that I had a tumour and claimed the endocrinologist was wrong. He actually laughed.Later, an MRI showed that I did indeed havea pituitary tumour. And soon after this experience, well let me say,I now have a different Family Doctor!

I recall that a few weeks after taking Accutane I felt different andnot myself. This carried on for about 5 years beingunaware that I even had a tumour underneath my brain. Why would anyone thinkthis?

I almost cried when I heard the endocrinologist say I had a tumour inside my head, but I was happy that I had an answer. Although, still not the final answer to rid of the ongoing mental issues I struggle with each day.

After surgery,I suddenlyfelt closer to normal, the same as idid prior to taking Accutane. It was short lived, however. I soon developed OCD.

**Amazing how something like a tumour can make you feel totally different. I could breathe once again as the tumour was not interfering with my sinuses any longer. *Misdiagnosed sleep apnea was cured and my sleep was better than 2 hours per night.

**It was defined as a macroadenoma as the size was above 1cm. (Under 1cm and they are referred to as an microadenoma.) Mine was pretty big at 3cm in diameter.

Im not claiming everyone has pituitary tumours, but maybe this could help someoneso they dontoverlook this.
