westersyl - You could pm Chico on liver detox if you wanted more direct answers on that. Also, you mention you are eating alot, but loosing weight. Accutane can cause numerous intestional, stomach, gastric issues and hormonal. Have you had your thyroid tested for hyperthyroid, have you been checked for U.C., Chron's or Gluten (celiac)? I am not sure about in the past, but I think Corn doesn't really digest in anyone, I'd have to recheck with my husband. Do you have hairloss, insomnia, flushing, palpatations or severe dryness? What labs have you had done, some get postive results and some are left guessing and searching for an answer!

Well, of course you are thinking of trying it, you cheeky little dickens. The foolishness of man perverteth his way. You dont have a runny nose because your nasal mucus membranes are died up, probably. I dont know about foods with vitamin A... I wouldnt purposely eat them. I certainly wouldnt take vitamin A supplements. I just realized one of my multi vitamins has vitamin A and Ive stopped taking it.

It's a misconception that accutane's stored in the liver, it's impossible for it to be stored in the liver because it's retinoic acid, not retinol. Retinoic acid is created for the sole purpose of binding to the receptors in the skin cells. The liver stores retinol only, not retinoic acid and seeing that retinoic acid cannot be retro converted back to retinol it's only going to be found in the skin cell receptors and possibly the adipose fat on the body, because it's fat soluble.
You should stay away from vitamin a in foods it will only make your hair shed more. Secondly take high dose biotin 15-20mg per day, that might bring some sebum back to your skin and will increase hair growth. People have taken saw palmetto for hair growth although camaro is dead against it. Ultimately it's the vitamin A toxicity thats making your hair fall out, not the fact that accutane is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. I've found that high dose zinc causes my hair to shed, it's because zinc is linked to the creation of retinol binding protein and helps the transport of vitamin A through my body, hence causing the hair to shed more.
I should also mention westersyl that grey stools can be a sign of issues with your pancreas or gallbladder!

Westersyl I know exactly what you mean. I can't drink anymore either. Even small amount of alcohol makes me feel like I've drunk loads and next day is a real struggle. All my side effect exacerbate as well after few drinks. My hair shed more, skin gets really dry (which is normal when you drink a lot, cause alco is a diuretic, but why it happens after one glass of wine, heavens know) and I feel extremely tired. It seems like my liver can handle alcohol at all. I know accutane totally destroyed it and nothing really helps. Just to let you know I took accutane 4 years ago for 6 months. I've done few liver flushes and general detoxes since, I eat healthy drink tons of water, but all my symptoms only got worse over time. It is what it is . Don't have the energy to fight it anymore and pretend I'm fine when really I feel exhausted.
I think alot of us that went on accutane may have drank alcohol during the course, in which case it might of increased the liver enzyme profiles and made it more difficult for the body to excrete accutane. I had low zinc levels found about 1 year after stopping accutane. Zinc creates the retinol binding protein that transports the retinoic acid to and from the cell receptor, with low levels of zinc there is a simultanous low level of retinol binding protein, which limits accutane's removal. I think people with a zinc deficiency have a higher chance of developing side effects when they take accutane, something the medical community hasn't acknowledged to the detriment of thousands of people.
@Westersyl any advice i can give is subjective and usually it vary's from individual. The one piece of advice that seems sacrosanct is don't eat foods that contain retinol. My experience is that taking retinol whether it be food based or supplement based, didn't help me and i'd say it made my side effects worse. To a lesser extent i like to stay away from wheat and gluten in my diet, i find it helps me. Likewise i avoid processed foods in general. Simplicity is key, the best advice would be to know yourself, know what works for you and what doesn't work, because it's a highly subjective thing.
Thank you for all replys. Generally I had many side effects while I was taking this shit. ( problem with concentations, I was thinking much slowlier, my eyes was getting tired faster when I was sitting before the screen, i get tired really fast when I played football, I experienced hot fulushing, felt like temperature of my body is higher but it all fade away.
My belly was much bigger (bigger liver ? ) but it also came back to normal.
I did ultrasound examination, gastroscopy, pancreatic amylase examination = everything seemed to be right.
I ve never had hair shed, my skin is at good condition now.
Unfortunately you right CHICO I was reallly drunk once during the course...(idiot) I didn't feel well after this . Maybe we should stop complaining about this drug because it's our fault ? "we didn't listen"
My digestion is really wrong, you can find not only such things like corn in my stool but even also pices of carrots, sometimes even the parts of the stool are diffrent colors, even black parts, yellow.
I noticed when I touch myself under the ribs it hurts a little.
QuoteI know, its a bummer not to be able to drink, Im from Polish/Russian desent and nobody trusts a guy who wont drink!
It's tottaly untrue [Edited image out]if you link it about Poland . I only just want to drink a couple of beers with my friends. It's summer here I am still young [Edited image out]
I'll try to change sth, fight against my hunger and eat less .
sorry for my english.

Again, people are continuing to work off this hitherto recalcitrant proviso that the root of all our problems is hair loss, precipitated by toxic retinoic acid exposure. Let go of this assumption that as long as we are fighting the evil that has befallen us (manifested as hair loss), and we arent fighting back with more vitamin A, everything is peachy. Specific substrates that 5-alpha reductase enzymatically converts include: testosterone, progesterone, androstenedione, epi-testosterone, cortisol, aldosterone, and deoxycorticosterone. You have mentioned that flax seed oil turned you beet red and that zinc led to shedding, but, conspicuously you have made no mention of their ability to mute 5-alpha reductase. Sure, there are low levels of vitamin A in flax seed oil, and zinc is a co-factor for many enzymatic reactions; but, it is doubtful that that is all that is going on. It is quite clear that forethought is almost nonexistent here and every rookie mistake which could be made, is made.

Evelyn , it's obvious alcohol is now toxic to us even beer which only has 5% alcohol yeah , it sucks. Basically our whole system has been poisoned.
I don't think liver flushes do any good , the only thing that has significantly helped me is BAXYL out of all the supplements I have tried , bone broth
soup could be good too , it has hyaluronic acid in it and other minerals , these things help with the dryness and joint pain . Here is a tip avoid
rubbing anything on your skin it seems to worsen conditions as our skin receptors are %^&* up as well.

The root of our problems isn't hair loss, it's just an associated symptom, it's seems to follow a causation and correlation. Hair loss, skin shedding (psoriasis / seborrheic dermatitis) Cheilitis, joint pain / joint weakness, digestive problems, facial flushing, grey stools, dry eyes.
Now lets passively check the symptoms of vitamin A toxicity - cracked lips, psoriasis flare-ups, cracked fingernails, sore eyes, scaling skin, hair loss, skin irritation, skin dryness, pain, and redness (topical analogs), as well as diarrhea, dyspepsia, steatosis (fatty change), perisinusoidal fibrosis (in the liver), chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis.
This seems to be almost identical, the lips problems, skin complains, dry eyes, as well as liver damage. Broadly speaking accutane affects the liver differently because it's not stored in the liver, hence consuming similar levels of retinol to your dose of accutane would likely kill you. But the skin, mucous membrane, eyes, lips and joint affects for all intents and purposes are the same. I'd go as far as to say the digestive effects, non liver related are the same.
If you think it's because accutane reduces 5-alpha reductase thats your choice, as Xun Zi once said "in order to see the big picture everyone should fear becoming mentally clouded with one small section of truth." I think it's applicable here. I don't question accutane is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, your right it is, hemp seeds are also a strong 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, but i don't see people developing the same side effects as listed above due to their over consumption of hemp seeds. Coconut oil is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, fish oil is, nettle root likewise. It's not causing those effects.
The flaxseed oil reaction is probably due to the synergistic reaction between omega 3 and vitamin A as they share cell receptors. The thyroid hormone shares these very same receptor sites too. The zinc is probably linked to it's direct interaction with vitamin A via it being the vital component of retinol binding protein... this binds to retinoic acid and aids transport. You have a right to express your opinion and it's a valid opinion and it's true, but i think it's only a modicum of a much larger picture.

No one is saying that those things should be avoided if you don't have our problem to begin with; BUT; if you do, it would behoove you to steer clear of those compounds that have the very mechanism, which cause most of the side effects we are dealing with. You are the one implying that there really is nothing to fret about, and that is rubbish. I am delighted you were able to work "modicum" into your debate, convincingly. I am looking at the larger picture, and cautioning, accordingly, but you are not. Yet, you accuse me of being narrow minded.

Well if you believe that to be the case, why don't you document these compounds that increase side effects? For instance experimenting and seeing what effects they cause, or at the very least list these foods and supplements so people on this forum can be aware of them. Also explain what symptoms you've seen decrease due to your avoidance of 5-alpha reductase inhibitors? You see what i'm saying.

I just read an article which claims accutane disrupts the production of seratonin (which we all know) but the majority of seratonin is produced in the gut. This article also said a lot of digestive disorders get better if seratonin production is restored. When I find it Ill post the link its eluding me at the mo.

Seriously, the only negative Ive read about it is it can increase manic behavior in manic-depressives. Or 'bi-polar" as the PC term is these days...

Evening prime rose oil , I'm thinking of trying it , it seems to have many benefits , joint pain , inflammation , nourish nails, scalp, and hair , promotes
blood flow ,even helps treat acne and rosacea etc....
Well, of course you are thinking of trying it, you cheeky little dickens. The foolishness of man perverteth his way. Gamma-linoleic acid (GLA), which is derived from evening primrose oil and borage oil, is a powerful 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. I am just looking out for the peeps that actually want rectification. I don't know what we would do without you leading the way?

Ah yes Z24 those dangerous 5-alpha reductase inhibitors you keep bringing up , but funny when I took saw palmetto I had no negative side effects hmmm...
yes indeed primrose oil could be deadly to me ..... not , I think the only thing that's dangerous is you and your advice ha.
hi, welcome to the site of us unfortunately accutained people.
There are liver cleanses you could do, some of the safer ones include dandelion tea and milk thistle...anything more serious than that I think needs more research.
I know, its a bummer not to be able to drink, Im from Polish/Russian desent and nobody trusts a guy who wont drink!

I have taken Isotretinoin for 6 months. Now I haven't taken it for almost one year. But I am sure my organism doesn't work like before. I want like some people here my old life back.
The worst think the doctors doesn't take me seriously.
What's wrong with me ? Mainly problems with digestion... I want to eat and eat and... I lost weight a little insead of put on weight. When I took Isotretinoin my stool was whole grey, now it's not grey but it's diffrent it's more mushy, not well formed I can find some pices of food like corn. ( NEVER had problem with digestion corn before).
I used to like drinking alcohol, to be honest I drunk a lot and I felt OK. Now after even a small dose I feel really bad. (my social life is ruined now) [Edited image out]
I also feel like i got too much (probably) hydrochloric acid. (maybe becasue I eat too much)
Thank to this site I found out it's definitely problem with the liver, no matter that all my liver test were fine. Now my question. Is it pernamet damage or temporary ? Is it possible to rebuild my digestion to normal ? Is there any post who 100% say what's work Jf i want to detox my liver ? Are the any aricles about it ? Are there any posts written by doctors who say how to come back to normal life ?
I really apraciete such solid voices here like Chico, but it's difficult to find post which say what is trule working.
I shouldn't eat anything what has Vitamin A (retinol)? or should I eat food with retinol to replace "fake" retinol which probaboly still is in my liver
Btw. I havent had runny nose since taking Isotretinoin.
(I have never seen written such thinks about Isotretion on the polish sites. ) It shows me how low is the awareness about how bad Isotretinoin is.
Isnt that the truth .
Still, there are worse things out there. Ever heard of a drug called krokodil? Its a cheap form of heroin, if you see what those people are doing to themselves youre likely to lose your lunch. Still--Im sure smiling medical doctors in a sterile enviornment didnt encourage anybody to become heroin/krok addicts.

People that eat Comet cleaner. Pottery. Glass. Dryer sheets. Rocks. Cigarette ashes. Drywall. Plastic. Nail polish. Boxes of laxatives. Detergent. Couch cushions. Gasoline. Deodorant. Huffing mothballs. Bathing in bleach. All with no lasting effects.
We were encouraged by certified doctors to take a legal prescription. And what's become of us?
Evening primrose oil...can it make you grow manboobs? If that's the case I won't try it lol....
I just read an article which claims accutane disrupts the production of seratonin (which we all know) but the majority of seratonin is produced in the gut. This article also said a lot of digestive disorders get better if seratonin production is restored. When I find it Ill post the link its eluding me at the mo.

AuguriesofInnocence Well thank God for that really at this point that is all I need , I'm glad you cleared that up . (=
and Auguriesofinnocence , perhaps try 5-HTP , I have been using it with good results , my serotonin levels seem to be rebounding .
anyone take salmon oil here? i take it since it doesn't react the same way inside of me as fish oil...but im aware that it contains some A. I don't notice super drying effects, but i do notice it insulates my joints better. Any scientists out there want to give me the run down? I'm greatly looking forward to some more argumentative action for entertainment. jk just answers.
Please, I hope you people can take the time to appreciate the common sense espoused by the lady (Sbowlchica) in the preceding post.
Auguries:
I wouldnt be too concerned about interjecting with levity, because I dont think anyone could inject more frivolity, if they tried really hard into this clown troupe Christmas party, if they were hell bent on it. At times, I may have riffed a smidgeon for my own personal entertainment, in dark times; and, also to treat jovially, and make more palatable, as a consequence, the sliver of truth biting commentary that is required to cut through much of the ignorance and delusionality that is rife here. Some of the astute readers here, and, or, perpetrators with larceny in their hearts will probably notice that I have reused some words that may have been instrumental in my being labeled pompous (some of it in private), should note that I recycled, not so further embellishment charges could be leveled at me; but, rather, to show that in actuality, I am quite reticent with my responses here. The witticism is all me; I get nothing back, sadly.
You also said, I dont think it can cause breast development. No, I dont feel that primrose oil could cause breast development, either, if it was used on its own and you werent afflicted with our syndrome. Of course, I am envisioning people using more than one 5-alpha reductase inhibitor alone; I think everyone here could easily concede to that. I am sure there are many that are on a handful at any given moment; and, many, I am sure that have no idea theyre ingesting a cacophony of anti-androgen compounds, daily. Also, does breast development (loss of pectoral muscle mass) function as a marker of severity on its own; I wonder how many of the boys and men who felt compelled to end their life proceeding Isotretinoin ingestion had this issue? They didnt all have it, and it certainly doesnt rigorously correlate to severity.
I have heard it said many a time on this website by women that 5-alpha reductase inhibition, has garnered them perks in the form of larger mammary glands. Remember, that there is what we can clearly see vis-a-vis altered physicality and what we cant see with this syndrome. Also, it is the resultant long term neurosteriod deficiencies, etc. that accompany 5-alpha reductase inhibition that is a real worry. Isnt it also odd that Gladiola concedes she has problems with her androgen receptors; but, yet, she seemingly has no concern with further suppression of her already troubled receptors with more antagonists? It really is stupefying.
@Chico:
Honestly, your question doesnt deserve an answer. There is a reason why Accutane users were first allowed to join over at Propeciahelp.com. I will spell it out for you: There is at least 80% overlap with symptoms from that group, and BOTH DRUGS ARE 5-ALPHA REDUCTASE INHIBITORS. You have no idea exactly which pathways manipulated by Isotretinoin have led to your current state. You think that people over at the other forum are now reluctant to take retinoids, if it were required of them to do so? In a word, why do you think they would be hesitant to do so? I know the answer: Because they do not want more of the SAME. You think it is not the same; the onus is on you to prove it? I have been on Finasteride, Accutane and even saw palmetto in the past, and they all cause the same effects. I used Finasteride 10 years ago, for a few weeks and it was particularly nasty. I am in my mid 30s and I still have 80% of my hair. My long term sides were caused by beta-carotene usage, so dont be so sure you know what is probable or not with this syndrome.

First you took two courses of Accutane yeah really smart Z24 , like I said before one would think you would have learned your lesson with the first course but
obviously you did not , then you went on Finasteride didn't Accutane teach you any lessons on the dangers of prescription drug , guess not and you took
saw palmetto like me ha , probably the least damaging thing you have done for yourself .
I took accutane only for 1.5 months about 2.5 grams and I
learned my lesson and quit after my hair started falling out yeah Z24 I was just a bit smarter than you thus I have less poison in my system.
I believe you that beta-carotene usage could be bad for us but I think only in high doses , and Z24 don't refer to me as she really if you weren't
hiding behind your computer i'd give you a punch in the face for that comment , just my 2 cents.
