Electrolysis (for after accutane)

Has anybody had electrolysis done after being on accutane? I finished my course 6 months ago and would like to get this done for the eyebrow area, but I have heard that it can take several months for your skin to recover after being on accutane -- so how many months exactly? 3? 6? 9? A whole year? I would like to be cautious and wait as long as I need to in order to avoid the chance of permanent skin damage/scarring, but I am also anxious to do this as soon as the time is right.

Thanks,

Sara

Hi there!

I am an esthetician for a medical office and do laser hair removal etc under the supervision of a plastic surgeon/ doc. You can begin any type of Laser hair removal or electrolysis 6 months post your last dose of accutane. Some docs or offices may tell you 3 months, but i definitely reccomend waiting a full 6 to let your skin fully recover. You will have a much higher risk of scarring the earlier you do it.

I hope this was of some help to you!

Good luck with everything!

bad idea, unless you have a giant unibrow, I like all different eyebrow shapes anyway

I do not wish to merely shape my eyebrows, this is hair in the area of where a unibrow would be (just not as much as the brows above each eye have, so I wouldn't exactly call it a full-on unibrow). Most people would view this as a fairly necessary thing to do, as long as it were safe, of course.

Hi there,

You should check with your Dermatologist treating your skin as sensitivity can vary between patients how you react to your medication, how sensitive your skin is naturally before the medication and what kind of dosage of Accutane you were on and length.

I had been on a very very low dose of accutane purely for maintenance purposes and had been for so many years (also to help with old acne scaring) that my skin was no more sensitive than someone not on accutane (apart from in sun).

So with discusion with dermatologist and evaluation was allowed to have waxing done (body) regularly while taking accutane, but when it came to face or lazer/electrolysis for body was advised strictly not to while on medication, but given the go ahead 4 months after finish treatment and had no problems.

Then went back onto the same dosage accutane as after the 5th month off skin was in a bad way and effected my work (modelling).

Hope this helpes, point was isn't really a set answer, although you do hear same wait time, like many things are guide lines or average time for people on treatment but really jus ask derm and can have it individually evaluated and sometimes find other alternatives best for your skin and where it is at that very moment in time.
