I have been on low dose accutane for 10 years (varying from 5-20 mg per day). My acne still seems to fluctuate...but it's 99% better! Sometimes I'll change my facial cleanser or eat alot of junk and have a mild breakout...but they take 1 day to heal so it's not such a big deal. Just don't expect perfection b/c on low dose you may still breakout here and there.
Hi there,
I just wanted to say that I just started the low dose of accutane (10mg)about a week ago but I'm taking it every other day, I was really concerned with the side effects that come with the 40mg or even 60mg and so my doctor recommended the low dose. I have really bad cystic acne but it's not constant I will get flare ups two to three times a year actually its whenever the seasons change, kinda weird. But I think this is a perfect option for someone who suffers from similar acne that I have, my skin broke out a bit when i first started but I noticed yesterday it was already clearing up I know they say you're not suppose to use other acne products while on accutane but my doctor recommended using my acne wash with it the first couple of weeks and I haven't noticed any problems, another thing is taking vitamin e every other day as well, to help with the dryness. I hope this was some help to anyone. Just thought I would share my experience so far.
angela.
I've been on 10mg for last 7 weeks and so far I'm loving the result
No IB. Just minor side effects but nothing I can't handle.
Hi denisj, is your acne condition mild or moderate?
Im actually suffering with moderate to severe acne at the mom. and have been taking 10mg of accutane for about 2 n half weeks. After 3rd day or say, started getting the initial breakout syndrome and still getting new large cyst type acne under my chin and neck area.
Funny thing is i had no post accutane symptons only until the 2nd week where my lips did become dryer. Anyone else experiencing this and how long did it take for the IB to stop? Was thinking of asking my derm to increase my dosage as im not sure if 10mg is sufficient for my condition.
Hello.
My acne was moderate-severe. Had cystic acnese on my chin and jaw line.
I was originally on 60mg but I told my derm that I was afraid of initial break so he told me to go on 10mg first.
The result was amazing. I had a very tiny breakout at the beginning but I never had any severe initial breakout. Side effects were very minor and typical as well...dry lips and skin.
I'm not sure if increasing the mg would help getting rid of initial breakout. I mean I was afraid of initial breakout so much that I asked other derms and they recommand to take lower mg.
But I believe they set the mg based on person's weight so 10mg may not be sufficient for some people.
Make sure to talk to derm about your conditions.
Hey!
We're exactly in the same boat, just that I have been getting few small ones on my cheeks that left red marks that take so long to fade. Was told that using BHA exfoliators would heal these sort of red marks quicker so I got one and it does seem to help ease the redness but no significant improvement yet after 3.5 weeks of using it.
Thats great to hear denisj, but in saying that it did take 7 weeks for your face to start clearing? On a side note, my derms gets me to come in once every 6 weeks, how frequent is your visits?
Cheers
Just found this information and finding it helpful. My daughter, 18, will be starting a lose-dose of Claravis at the end of the month and hoping that all of you will keep posting your results. It really helps to read what others are dealing with and effects at different times.
What type of acne did you have? Anyone with scarring prior to starting? Pitted, not red. And what about sun sensitivity? Are you from the US? If so, what have you done to protect your skin? Have you been swimming or gone to the the beach?
Thanks!
Hello, I am 22 yo/f and have a moderate acne since last year. I had taken several kind of antibiotics and oral+topical treatment but my acne never got better so my dermatologist prescribe me 10 mg accutane and today is my 5th day. My dermatologist gave me accutane prescription for 14 days then she will see the result first. Recently, I don't get any lip and skin dryness. My facial skin is still oily and I get several new acne here and there (kind of big and painful acne that I do not have before). I wonder how long it takes to get that kind of skin/lip dryness or the other effect of accutane taking. I doubt that 10 mg dosage is suitable for me.
hey everyone i am on 10mg accutane for nine days. on the seventh day i started breaking out horribly and i still seem to be getting new pimples. i currrentlyhave a huge painful one on my forehead. im debating wheter i should start wearing makeup cause my face loooks awful.
hey guys,
just some information for those of you new accutane users. Im into week 11 now; my dose has been upped to 20mg on my 7th week. Basically when i was under 10mg at the start, broke out bad esp 1-4 weeks then got better (less new breakouts but still alot of redness) during week 5-6. Increased my dose to 20mg and got flare ups again, not as bad during my initial flare up; and now entering week 11, its drying out the acne. Still red obviously as some marks that Ive had since week 2 still shows pretty clear.
As for side effects, 10mg was basically nothing but mildly dry lips; with 20mg, getting nose bleeds and more chapped lips. Even got those cuts at the side of the lips due to over dryness. Key is to moisturize 24/7.
Anyway good luck to everyone out thr, share your progress too and what works for you. Note that you shouldnt be using any other acne medication on top of accutane unless your Derm tells you to.
IB is an initial breakout. Thank u everyone for posting and I do hope some of u can come back and post on ur results. I ended up with major texture changes and saggy skin (at 27) after a bad fractional laser procedure and accutane has literally been the only thing to help another laser damaged person. I am looking to start soon but am trying to research as much as possible. For those of you who have taken accutane and stopped....did you skin texture stay the same or did it change after stopping accutane.
Hey so I've always had pretty clear skin
Last year I changed my facial wash and it didn't suit me.and ever since that I kept gettting tiny pimples and whiteheads.went to the derm and he prescribed me Accutane 10mg.
So far it's been a month, there's been dryness on face but lips are fine also I haven't had any major breakouts, iam now on my second month.and I plan on taking this small dose for the next six months atleast.what do u say people?
Oh and I use garnier light Facewash, suits me fine and shiso moisture lotion from body shop
Also if anyone would recommend a good sunscreen?
