Hi guys,

Do you know much about Minoxidil 15% (xandrox). I am currently on 12.5% which is working fine but I thought to try 15% this time round if it makes any difference. My main reason to switch is the price difference. Apparently xandrox will cost me much lesser than my current 12.5%.

Also it is recommended not to use these topical steroids like dermovate for long time as it could lead to skin thinning. Its got other side effects as well which is why it should not be used on daily basis as well. Are you guys considering this?

Cheers!!

I keep saying this but will keep saying it anyway. The steroids applied once daily will not result in any damage to the skin on the scalp. My dermatologist who is the best in the UK reasures me of this and i have been using them for over a year now every day.

Lamaar I'm so glad that your online right now and in a matter of fact I've been reading and looking over your post for over a year now snice I've had hairloss associated with accutane.I've just kinda hope that it would go away but now it seems to be getting serious.I would you would take some time and give me some answers to the best of your knowledge.

1 month after taking accutane I've started getting diffused hair loss but my case seems to be different then most of the people here.I'm not VISIBLY losing hair but it just seems to be rapidly diffused and doesn't grow back properly with a bit of recession each time.At first I thought it was just in my head but then I notice that most of my body was shedding and like half of my pubic hair is now gone.

Do you think that accutane POSSIBLY induce mpb in me because I'm not visibly losing any hair, its just getting thinner and shorter by the day and now I can't even grow it out anymore.Lamaar your picture looks great btw, how bad was your hairloss?

Also I would like to add that your a inspiration to people like me who just don't know what to do about our accutane hairloss as I've notice your the only one that actually bothers to come back and help others even after recovering.

Hey bro,

Well tbh any shedding of body hair, especially other than the eyebrows is nearly ALWAYS alopecia areata. SImply because regions of the body such as the pubic area are niether open to shock hairloss e.g. telogen effluvium or male pattern baldness, because the hormones in that area actually thicken the hair if anything.

What you are describing is just like diffuse AA. It just looks like you are shedding at a normal rate and the inflammation is causing the hairs left to grow in thinner and shorter. The suggests to me that there is some strugle with inflammation and the hair follicles causing them to slowly shrink. Now the good thing about diffusse AA is that the follicles aren't damaged beyond repair, they always have the potential to heal themselves, you just have to create the right conditions.

Now having said that it would appear that the hairloss isn't simple diffuse AA in us guys, because the recession which comes with it, must be related to hormones in some way. I have a theory on this aswell but it is to much for this thread. What you have is definenetly not MPB.

there are things u can do which can reverse the loss to some degree!!

Wow talking to you just brighten my whole day as I was scared half to death with my recent recession.I'm planning to go on rogaine if this problem doesn't resolve itself within a year also I would love to hear your theory, I think I saw it on another forum a while ago.

Lamaar honest to god I cant even tell that your suffering from hairloss. It looks so thick in comparison to mine.I'm wondering how bad was your hair at its worst before it got any better?

Edit-I'm also wondering did you actually get any regrowth with your treatment or u just stoped it from falling out before it got any worse?

My hair still sheds more than normal due to the underlying diffuse AA, but the three things i do make sure that the hairs can keep regenerating. My hair is about 70% of its original density, i can post pics of it before and you would be able to tell SLIGHTLY. I went down to 30% of my original density at my worse point, about 10 months into the shedding.

I am about 20 months since it started now. I have always had regrowth but with what i do i cut the shedding down considerably which allows more of it to continue growing and like i said it protects against the damage the inflammation can cause to the follicles. I have receeded at my temples about the width of a pinky finger...so not too much atall. I have a mole which used to be in line with my hairline so i use that as a measure lol.

I was wondering if you could offer me some help with my hair loss. Im shedding pretty good right now, this is my 3rd week in after taking 50mg accutane for 6 months. What would you suggest I do in these early stages?

Is it possible that accutane can cause both TE and AA? Is my hairloss most likely AA as well? I wear my hair pretty long, would it be wise to cut it short to minimize the hair loss?

I don't think keeping it short will do you any good in terms of protecting your hair considering its drug induced.

For now I would suggest you wait it out a bit before considering any dramatic actions considering your only 3 weeks in.

btw-Treasure your hair and style it to your hearts desire just incase it actually does become a long term sort a thing(talking from experince :surprised: ).

Hey Lamar, Legend at the needling posts informed me that you fabricated a device that allows you to individually needle scars on your face. If you could let me know where I could buy or make one of those I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks a lot!!

I don't know where they can be bought because my dad is a dentist and gives me them.... they are simply 1mm stoppers that you slide of the needle. I can't find them anywhere on the net!!

Hey Lamar -

I was only on accutane a few weeks but have noticed the same type of hairloss you seem to have. It's been three months since I stopped but the shedding has continued and I'm now noticing some recession at the temples (perhaps a half inch or so where my hairline was straight before). In the last few weeks I've noticed my hair is fuller (probably from regrowth) but it still sheds at an alarming rate. Do you see anything wrong with just applying the rogaine to my temples in hopes of regrowing some hair there? Also, should I use that xandrox stuff you talk about and where can I get it?

Thanks,

Cavan

Hey bro, I think the minoxidil is a good idea just for the temple region yes, it should help prevent things getting to bad!!

Xandrox can be bought from Dr Lee if you google his name you will find his website,

best wishes,

Mark

Im 4 weeks into accutane..and im sitting at work...leaned over my desk and run my hands through my hair and like 10 strands of hair just fell onto a white piece of paper!!!

Holy Mother of God... that freaked the life out me! Guess you cant have your cake and eat it.. life.. ironic..

I wonder.. I have an interesting choice...

Zits vs Baldness

Which do you think is the lesser evil?

IMO acne is easier to treat than baldness (there are things out there which will work for everyone). Use somethign like hibiscrub and/or topical ibuprofen. I think there is greater stigma assosiated with baldness aswell.

Edit: god i sound like a retard when i rush posts.

Lamarr,

This is so true. Going bald in your 20s is really really hard to deal with

I just started using Emu Oil and was wondering how often do you apply this to your head?

Its a real pain to wash out. Even with one wash my hair still have a slight smell of the Emu oil.

Hey bro, the more often you apply it the better but i use one of my steroid bottles to apply it once at night. Wash it out a few hours later or leave it in over night but put baby powder in my hair to prevent pillows getting greasy.

Is your steroid bottle make it easier to apply?

I'm thinking about buying those droppers thing like this.

I'm am taking Vitamin E everyday(400IU). And noticed less hair falling out and better texture. I've also read that Vitamin E is a Vitamin A regulator and our problem was excess of vitamin A so give vitamin e a try guys.

How long have you been taking the vitamin e to see the results?

Are you noticing any side effects?

Remember that Vit E could produce excess sebum as well which might not be a good idea for acne prone skin.

Jessie,

I've just started to use emu oil as well. After I shower I notice my hair looking little bit thicker =) I think its because the oil is absorbs by the hair making it thicker and looking healthier.

For me emu oil stimulates hair follicles significantly. It doesn't stop the shedding much more than about 10% though....

If i don't use emu for a while, then begin using it again. I get a whole new head of tiny hairs growing in within a matter of weeks. I have been using the emu, jojoba oil, grape seed oil and lavender oil for about 5 months now and for the first time i think i can say my hairline is actually improving.

Lamarr,

Are you applying emu, jojoba oil, grape seed oil and lavender oil ? at the same time or do you use them on different days?
