hey everyone,
just an update on my situation... been using rogaine for 2 months now and no noticible improvements yet. Any time I apply the rogaine I lose a ton of hairs in the process and after combing it out. This causes me to lose less in the shower and on my pillow. I continue to lose a bunch of strands throughout the day from itching my scalp- again, it will itch really badly in one very specific place (like the follicle or something) and when I scratch it anywhere from 1-3 hairs will come out. I'm losing both long and short ones and i've definately gotten noticibly thinner both and top and in the temple regions. Its still only been 4 months since my last dose of accutane (was on 40mg for 1 month and 80mg for 3 months and stopped mid september) so i'm hopeing this starts to get better over time. I've also been taking propecia, biotin, homeopathic stuff, washing with nioxin, etc. I've been taking pictures of my hair about once a month and have perceived a slow but noticible worsening of the situation (bald spot on my head is really starting to turn into a bald spot at this point...not just a thing spot). I'm 21 so this is obviously pretty upsetting for me. Hopefully it'll start to get better over the next year or so....
Update:
Hey guys,
Well, my hair started to come back. And then I started shedding again. I'm convinced this is because I started Rogaine again. This time, I'm on Rogaine to stay. Shedding should stop next month.
I will give another update then. Feel free to PM me about anything, etc.
Hey JNT,
I think you are taking way too many things for your hair. This will acutally make it worse, from all the initial shedding of the products and you won't notice regrowth for sometime. I'd say just keep the rogain, quit the propecia, ebcause if you don't have mpb then the propecia ain't going to do anything that the rogaine aint already doing plus propecia is dangerous, just use rogaine and take your vitamins.
I have been experiencing accutane related hairloss since late May, and while I think I have been slowly improving; it seems that my hair doesn't fall out, but is pulled out. Every strain that I lose has a huge clump of dry hardened oil on the end, that I can slide my hand down the strain and take off leaving only the typical white bulb. I feel that if I spent an hour in front of the mirror brushing or moving my hair around I could lose about 10000 hairs. But if I didnt touch my hair for a week, then I showered I will lose the same amount I would on an normal day. The hair is most loose in the front, atleast recently; but the hair doesn't fall on its own- never any on my pillow and when I shampoo the amount of hair I lose related to how hard I massage. Does anybody have this problem?
I'm experiencing the same damn thing. I can comb and pull out my hair ALL DAY. I mean, i can take all hair folicles of my head if i want! THAT'S INSANE and i'm sick of it. It's been 5 months since i stopped accutane i was on 40mg for 8 months. I can see my hair with spots everywhere. I don't get it my hair was so strong.
Been on Propecia for 2 months, nothing happened. Now i'm going to minox.
I can't be bald, no one likes bald, i am already horrible, i can become a monster.
jnt, what can i say? stick with it. i shed pretty bad from rogaine. most of the shedding occured while applying it. fortunately for you, thats good news! thats your scalp pushing out shit hairs as it increases follicle size. a couple pages back, i posted pics of my rogaine results after just two and a half months. it sucks for a couple months but then the results hit you pretty quick so my advice to you is give it more time. the nizoral is supposed to be an anti inflammatory shampoo although i have heard of cases where its too much for some. i would browse the hairlosstalk forum to find the best shampoo for you. also, if anyones interested..ive added finpecia to my regimen. one month in, absolutely no side effects. finpecia is way way less costly than propecia but serves the same purpose. alright. glad to see some people on this board are making steps towards improving their accutane related hairloss. cya
I will be on my 9th month of shedding on 2/15. I have had some lower days of shedding (i.e. 100 hair vs 400 hairs), but then for a few days it will pop up again. I never tried Rogaine (I'm a girl and eventually want kids so i would have to quit it anyways). Have you all used anything else or just tried the "wait and see" approach?
I did the wait and see approach, its workin out, my hair not completely back its still thinner than before but hopefully it gets better in the coming months. favre dont go back on accutane you can achieve the same results with taking vitamin b5 which you dont have to get a prescription for, i use it i got twin lab 500mg caps and i take 2 a day totally 1g a day. and it has dried my skin pretty good and you can gradually go up to more grams a day if you need to also make sure you take a B complex wwhen your takin this because you dont want to be deficient in the other vitamins. the best part is that you dont have those nasty side effects.
Hey, so my hair still falls too much, like i said before i can take all of my hairs with my hands. I lose about 100-400 per day.
I'm on propecia and minox. My hair is full of spots where you can see the scalp, it's terrible when i'm with my hair wet.
I'm on my 6 month still shedding after accutane. But i'm waiting to see the results of minox since i started just 2 weeks ago. Propecia i'm on the 3 month.
Gonna say it once more as i don't like to see people suffer....
Most of you will have diffuse Alopecia Areata. You need to get treated as if you have Alopecia areata. Minox can be of help, combine it with a topical or intradermal steroid and your away. Although it is a very chronic disease naturally but when it is induced by tane it can resolve spontainiessly (spelling).
I Bet most of you have an itching/burning sensation and your derm may tell you this is from dandruff, which is rubbish. It is the increased abudance of t cells (immune cells) attacking your hair follicles which cause this sensation.
I have been using a topical steroid for the past two months and it has enabled my hair to be better than it has in the last 10 months. It hasn't switched off the problem but i now know for certain how to tackle the problem.
Pm me if you need any help guys...
my hair is returning to normal, is it possible that i might have AA aswell?
It is most definently possible that you had AA and that you recovered from it...
There are stories of people recovering ten years down the line after going completely bald... If it was due to male pattern baldness that would 100% not be possible...
what do i have to do or say inorder for my derm to put me on medication for AA or is there an alternative medicine/supplement for AA? I would like to be put on some medication to ensure my hair grows back completely or closer to it.
If you have stopped shedding, then i would just give it time man. Just be thankfull things aren't going down hill!! Minox will help it regrow if the underlying process has ended though.
I lost about 6 to 10 strands of hairs per day. Is that consider severe hairloss?
No not at all, at the height of my hairloss i lost about 50 times more than that.... 6 to 10 is nothing to be worried about at all, perfectly normal!!
