you'll be fine stripedsocks, you might take around 6-8 months to recover but theres a really good chance you do considering you took such a low dose, I took 80MG for 5 months and 60 1 month and i recovered about 11 months after my last take of the 60mg for the month of january and I weight 170. just try to eat healthy drink lots of water and get fish/flax/sunflower oils and if you want to go on rogaine you can, i would stay off a bit more cause im still not convinced that rogaine acutally helps because rogaine is a DHT BLOCKER and since our hairloss is not due to DHT it should not work. but who knows maybe it does, but just remember the initial shed.
Mikey, minoxidil is not an anti DHT....Secondly accutane doesn't accelerate MPB unless you already have MPB. Like the original post by Andy, mpb is a product of time, not hair cycles. The reason for stories of people recovering 10 years down the line is that alopecia areata only attacks the actualy hair follicle, not the surrounding tissue as with mpb. There is no way people would recover there hairlines if mpb was the cause.... after 3 years with mpb you have atrophy of the tissue surrounding the hairfollice (the hairs that aren't visable after that time).
Thirdly try vitamin B5... will reduce your oil alot...
I just stopped taking Claravis after only 2 weeks use (80mg/D) due to hair thinning out and shedding. Has anyone here heard of permanent loss after such a short time? It seems to be diffuse, and because this is happening so soon I decided it wasn't worth taking a 5 month course on regardless of dose. And am I crazy or is my leg hair shedding some too??? FWIW, the hair that is falling out (my head) seems shorter than the length of the whole hair. Maybe it is just the ends because my hair is so brittle and weak? I guess only time will tell.
Yea but its extremely rare. I was on it only for 2 months (20mg-30mg) and have been shedding for 10 months or so. It was smart for you to get off because you will most likely stop. Did your skin improved though?
I am just getting over my IB and I quit a few days ago, so it is too early to tell. So for the short while I was on it it didn't...I just know it kicked my ass for 2 weeks, thats why Im thinking the sides my linger a little while, cause Lord knows my body reacted instantly to the stuff.
I meant Rogaine and not minox, i usually mix those up. And yea das what i meant accutane can accelerate mpb or appear to accelerate it by making your hair fallout and if you have substanitial damage and you dont recover from da accutane then your screwed unles you dont have mpb.
yea, but minox isnt just whats in rogaine, what i was trying to say about the DHT blocker was that rogaine is a dht blocker and not minox. but yeah i was lookin into the b5 and it seems like alot of people found it useful, im going to go on 1mg per day and go up until i get results. what sucks is that there is not more than 500mg tablets of b5 so to get like 5g i would have to pop alot of pills, unless i only need 1g them im good but i seen most people take like 5-10g of this stuff, and the recomended is 4-7g das insane amounts.
Well I got my hair cut today for the first time in 15 months. The barber commmented on how thick it was. After getting it cut I am pretty sure that my hair has not lost that much thickness. It is weird because I have been shedding for about 9 months now. I think it has slowed down but I still lose smaller tapered hairs so I know my hair cycle is still not normal.
This is where I am at right now. Lots of thinning in the "crown area, but also all over the head. I started to use rogaine about 2 weeks ago and hopefully that will help recover some of the loss I have experienced. My derm is about to offer me some steroid shots, but not sure if I should take her up on it. Anybody have them before, if so did you notice some changes fairly quickly?
tjk, keep up with that rogaine. youll have a nasty shed for a few weeks but then itll be all over and itll be up hill from there. make sure you apply the rogaine correctly. i part my hair towards the sides, between the sides and middle, then right smack in the middle....turn the foam bottle upside down and apply directly to the scalp. its worked great for me. cya

It's good to see that more derms are slowly realising the reason for tane hairloss. Go for the shots....
well i'm almost 12 months and i'm still shedding, but i think it MAY be slowing because the hair in the drain is about half of what it was a month ago. my hair is also still very thick so if i still have thick hair after 12 months i don't think it can get much worse. i feel for those of you that started out with thin hair, though.
edit; my shedding definately is slowing down. i just washed my hair and i only lost around 25-30, which is a million times better than the clumps i was losing. i also lost less hair while combing, but we'll see if it continues to slow. perhaps we are all finally recovering?
nope clear as i've been. i did have a small pimple or two the other day, but i could probably count the number of pimples i've had the last 12 months on one hand. unfortunate accutane has so many bad side effects because it really does it's job. of course, i only really had mild acne to begin with.

Yea I did but no improvements as of now. I have bald spots above my ears from tane and its possible that the shots prevented them from getting bigger. If you don't have any then I think you should continue to apply Rogaine and try to get Lidex and Nizoral.
I have been experiencing accutane related hairloss since late May, and while I think I have been slowly improving; it seems that my hair doesn't fall out, but is pulled out. Every strain that I lose has a huge clump of dry hardened oil on the end, that I can slide my hand down the strain and take off leaving only the typical white bulb. I feel that if I spent an hour in front of the mirror brushing or moving my hair around I could lose about 10000 hairs. But if I didnt touch my hair for a week, then I showered I will lose the same amount I would on an normal day. The hair is most loose in the front, atleast recently; but the hair doesn't fall on its own- never any on my pillow and when I shampoo the amount of hair I lose related to how hard I massage. Does anybody have this problem?
carlospuyol, what was your dosage or accutane?. I had this samething, im pretty sure everyone here has as well since it's been mentioned alot in previous posts. This is normal i guess part of the cycle since your scalp is much more dry than it used to be, my hair is returning to normal and i would like to say that your hair will come back just give it time took me 1 year from last taken month to start recovering. try to wash your hair with gentle shampoos (low chemicles) like a baby shampoo.
