i seem to be loosing most of the hair on the sides of my head.. the top is definately thicker than the sides.. is this bad or good? i just didnt think u could go bald on th sides of ur head..
i've had this problem and so haw lamarr, i believe. the top of my head is actually pretty damn thick, but the area above my sideburns has taken quite a hit i think.
As i think i have mentioned... you need to remember how the hair grows e.g. what direction etc.
The reason you aren't noticeing the regrowth as much on the sides, is because it doesn't grow in sticking up like it does on top, i bet in a few weeks you will notice the sides feel similar to the top...
Well I'm back just to update with everything and my situation. Over the past couple of months I have still been shedding. At times it slows up and at other times it is very severe and the shedding has never really let up to no avail even after 9 months post. However, I have an interesting theory as to why this is happening now just hear me out. It seems my three week stint on propecia back in april really did me in. On accutane besides the hair loss I was relatively free of any major side effects, but once I started the propecia which was only about three off of it some weird stuff began going on with my body. I think be it the propecia alone or the combo of accutane that I already had in my system, my whole sleeping pattern was disturbed along with my hormonal system. I would go to sleep at night and it would be like i wasnt even sleeping when i would wake up in the morning. It sort of cleared up once I quit the propecia but since then I have been battling extreme fatigue bouts throughout the day and if anything my hair loss hasn't subsided and gotten worse (fyi the propecia seemed to be helping slightly but not much). However, since i've started school this semester my health along with hair seems to have taken a turn for the worse. I am losing weight but at the same time losing muscle while my hair is turning to crap. It is thining on the whole top area as well as the sides and the front vertex is taking a hit too. Anyway i looked at my symptoms and the whole thing that's going on with me points directly to ADRENAL FATIGUE AND A THYROID DISORDER. i have no doubt that there is some sort of problem as i have many of the symptoms. The reason why many of us could be losing our hair along with other health issues could be issues in the amount of cortisol being secreted by our adrenal glands. There's a lot of stuff i could go into as having too little or too much cortisol is a bad thing but the bottom line is basically if you have a cortisol deficency your overal health is comromised. This includes adrenal fatigue and thyroid disorders where you see the thinning hair bouts of fatigue and countless other problems etc. So Lamar you know what that means? it all relates back to what you said way back on here before the one thing that may help us the most is an ORAL STEROID such as CORTISONE etc, that increases cortisol levels. the higher the cortisol levels in the body the less overall inflamation meaning less hair loss and better overall health once cortisol levels are balanced. I think accutane could have possibly caused mass inflamation over and in our entire bodies and in my case the propecia really made it worse. I live in the US and am trying to line up an appointment with an endo as i know something is wrong with me. The problem is over here it takes forever to get into to see one so im gonna have to wait and be patient. my one hope is that this truely is related to my cortisol levels and the doctors are willing to prescribe me an oral steroid to correct it. i'll keep you guys updated. FYI i am most likely going to try to start wearing at least a partial hair piece in a couple months because at this point i dont think my hair can be saved. it sucks and i still have a decent amount of hair left, enough where i can wear it long and no one can tell, but my hair is so shitty and is thinning so fast that i want to go into one before it gets worse so hopefully no one can tell. it sucks but if it can look natural and i can have full thick hair again ill take it.
i tried the apple cider vinegar detox for about a week but i had to stop but it tasted really bad and was I get really bad heartburn and it was making it worse. i have heard really good things about it though I wish i couldve stuck with it.
At this point i am feeling pretty hopeless. Most people are saying that the majority of their hairloss was right after accutane but I didnt notice any severe hair loss until about 4 months after I finished the accutane and now I am losing about 150-200 hairs a day. I think that it may have been caused by my recent diet. I was eating only protein bars and eat bar had 2.5 mg of vitamin a. I would eat about 6-7 a day. Could that have caused the hair loss to suddenly start? I freaked out and I completely cut all food containing vitamin a out of my diet. I noticed my skin has started get dryer since i started doing this, but my face is still really oily. I am confused. I was on 80 mg/day for 6 months and I did experience some thinning while on accutane but i had pretty thick hair so it didnt really bother me. But now my pony tail is probably the size of a dime around.

well you were on one hell of a dose at 80mg for 6 months, over twice as much as me so i would assume that your hair loss is due to accutane and not diet related. i've never eaten right pretty much my whole life and never had a problem with hair loss up until accutane. anywway, bear in mind that you are a female and females have a very good chance of recovery. however, it depends cause i do know a girl up here at school who was on accutane about 3 times and her hair is very very thin now. she has to wear cut very short and uses extensions.
reading over some other peoples post on how much they took i am suprised my dose was so high. I only had mild acne and weigh 130 lbs. i dont know why i was on such a high dose. this is so upsetting just now I ran my fingers through my hair and i counted 42 hairs that came out
Anyone here tried Biotin Shampoo?
http://www.evitamins.com/product.asp?pid=3293
I was at Wholes Food store today and saw that shampoo.
Sweetheart.... I know it is easy for me to say this, but i am pretty sure you will be OK...
As ithappens has said, your hairloss is definenelty due to the accutane, you currently have no reason to worry as it sounds like a typical case of TE. Your telogen length seems to be pretty long, i would guess around 6 months and the toxic shock probably took place 2 months before the end of your course...
I saw my ex gf the other day who has been loosing alot of hair since she went on tane (only low dose) but her hair still sheds. her temples have receeded some and one side is worse than the other, pretty much the same as me, although she does have more regrowth on the temples than me...
i eat carrots when my mom makes them for dinner, but otherwise i don't eat any vit A. i am really afraid of vitamin A at this point, ha.
if there is anything that is good about this thread, it's showing that accutane hair loss lasts a lot longer then most people believe, and SURELY most of us have to fully recover at some point..

i dunno if i will fully recover at all my hair is a mess. i am strongly started to feel this is all directly related to our thyroid function. we all have diffuse loss all over. more so it's not so much the hair loss as the fact that the whole structure of my hair has changed from straight thick and healthy to thin wispy and curly.

No need to avoid vegetables that contain vitamin A. If our problem is caused by vitamin a it is the synthetic version. Beta-carotene as found in most veggies, is only converted to the form of vitamin A that may be our problem, if we need it. Which obviously we do not, so the body won't convert it.
Vitamin a supplements are a different story... But don't avoid any veggies!!
Guys i truely believe with accutane hairloss, the drug triggers the toxic shock early (if not at the beging) of our course...
it doesnt show itself until our telogen length has passed. E.g. in my case my hairloss started a month after a 5 monthcourse e.g. my telogen length is longer around 6 months...
so i can assume the shortest my telogen length is, is 4-6 months (telogen length is anything between 1-6 months)
therefore i have to count 4 months from the end of my course ATLEAST, maybe 6 months and that will be the begging of my final shed ONLY. I then have to wait the length of my telogen stage again, for the shedding to completely stop... e.g. 4-6 months ontop of that, so we are looking at 8-12 months from the begging of the shedding in my case....
If you began shedding 4 months into your course you can assume your telogen length is around 4 months, then add the 4 months from the end of your course and add another 4 months... you get 8 months...
I'm pretty certain this is how a typical TE from accutane will work. It also fits in with what Andys derm said, e.g. 6-8 months for shedding to stop in MOST cases.
But as i said some people have longer telogen lengths and will shed for up to 12 months, i think if you are shedding over a year you may have chronic TE....or some other factor.
As some members have found if you contact these people they have recovered to a pretty decent extent a few months after they have stopped posting and don't report back...
We need to remember this isn't like when hairloss is triggered from childbirth for instance, as that is only (normally) effecting one telogen length, so the shedding is much less time wise...
If we take dolphs case for instance, his shedding began 2-3 months into tane and he stopped imeddiately, (his telogen length is around 2-3 months) i believe his shedding persisted properly for no more than 4 months 6 months tops....
Give it time guys, give it time, i still have a slight glimmer of hope......
Buddy, from the numbers you say you loose, you really have nothing to worry about either way, 20 extra hairs a day is not really going to effect your hair...
P.s. if you were extremely sensitive to the isotretinoin you have to include the month after while it is still in your blood...
Found this online. already on the apple cider vinegar(1 glass of water 2tblsp of ACV, I don't like the taste but its pretty good, dunno i feel alot better, i'll let you guys know how my hair is doing after about a week, to see if theres changes.
The falling out of hair is primarily due to a tissue salt deficiency, thus Apple cider vinegar with its 'wonder products' will re-establish a natural balance, and supply the deficiencies where needed. Therefore, by taking the Apple cider vinegar treatment the hair will maintain its natural growth.
It will cease to fall out and grow more rapidly and thickly. This will take approximately two months, so perseverence is needed. The dosage is one teaspoonful of Apple cider vinegar to a glass of water to be taken with or between meals.
Another method for preventing hair loss is by starting each day with a drink of water to which has been added 4 teaspoons each of apple cider vinegar, black strap molasses, and honey.
Apple cider vinegar can also be used externally for the treatment of dandruff.
Mikey-
I've been trying the ACV detox method for a couple weeks now as well. It doesn't taste very good but I can handle it. It makes sense to me to give it a try because it helps cleanse the liver and remove any extra vitamin a which could be effecting our hair. The way I figure it, its so cheap, and good for you anyone so there is no reason to not give it a shot.
Also to anyone who may know, I've been studying the hairs that I lose in the shower drain and about 1 out of about every 15 is thinner than the normal thick hairs. Does this necessarily indicate MPB even though I don't have a receding hairline or anything?
sw club i noticed that my hairs are thinner as well and im a girl so i dont think that it is necessarily mpb.
i think my hair loss may finally be slowing down. i used to lose about 200 strands a day and now it is down to about 100. last night when i showered it was the first time in a long time that i did not clog the drain at all. i dont have too much hair left so im hoping that my talogen phase might finally be ending. ive been shedding for about 5 months now but only extreme shedding for the past 2 months. i think someone earlier mentioned that when you begin to lose a lot of hair it means that the talogen phase is almost over.
