Not everyone will get hairloss and this topic only scares other away from trying out accutane. I suspect some of you get hairloss is not because of using accutane. Is in fact some of you suffer from hairloss and there is nothing to do with accutane. This topic is really misleading and i hope those who are thinking of trying out accutane to try it out and not give it up just because of some peoples misleading posts.....
posts like this really piss me off. first of all, you realize that when you are experiencing male pattern baldness it is a long gradual process and the hair strands THIN, it doesn't mean you shed uncontrollably. second, accutane hair loss effects 13% of the people that take it in the first place. please, educate yourself before you feel like spewing nonsense. accutane is a serious drug and people should be informed of the possible side effects.
also, i took 40mg for 3 months so your theory that only 60mg gives you hair loss isn't true. some of the others in here also took low dosage.
To be fair i went up to 90mg per day, but i did weigh 95 kg at the time due to working out for many years so this is still under 1mg/per kg. I do however feel they shouldn't always follow the 1mg/kg guide as we all have similar sized livers and obviously this is what processes the isotretinoin.
P.s. i stil shed around 200 -300 hairs a day, 7+ months post tane....
Just curious, what other problems you have beside hairloss?
i'm a weird case i think. i have no other side effects left. chapped lips, (but i always have had chapped lip problems) and while on accutane i had no glaring side effects. i felt no different, my vision was normal (a little blurry in the morning), and everything seemed normal. 3 months in i started shedding hairs, which i didn't even know was a side effect since they don't put it in that little booklet they give you, and here i am 7 and a half months later still shedding. i was on 40mg for 3 months.
Hi guys,
A few updates:
- I'm still shedding, but my hair is thicker than 6 months ago. Not as thick as it used to be, though.
- I cut my hair relatively short - an inch long - and now comb my hair forward. This looks relatively good on me and completely masks all thinning.
I still don't know what to think about all of this. As I posted before, when I went to see my family in Sicily, I realized that hair loss is not that bad in my family. I am officially giving this until January (one year after I started shedding) to make a somewhat definitive conclusion about my situation.
Hope all of you guys are well. Keep hanging on.
Andy remember that you started and stopped minox, that will play around with ur shedding..
Update with me... i still shed about 200 hairs a day, although atm i am going through a regrowth phase, which i haven't had a wave of in about 4 months which is good i guess? it feels pretty decent thickness wise atm...
Dr Chu is putting me on a vasodialator for my flushing as he says accutane has given me roseacea yay me, the hairloss he cannot tell me will stop for sure, and my scarring he is baffeled by but can admit is clearly not caused by acne...
He took photos of me to see if it is progressing or not, although i know everything is... Why do things just keep getting worse?

so Dr. Chu said that the hair loss could be permanant? Has he experienced cases where it has been permanant? If it is just telogen effluvium what were his reasons for saying it might not stop? Did he give a time frame at all for when patients usually recover? Sorry to bombard you with all the questions but it is disheartening to here that he said it might not stop.
I have a question the hairs you guys are losing is it finer?
When I'm taking a shower70% of the hair I'm shedding will be fine and other 30% would be normal thickness.
I think this is mpb
The odds are against me.
I was thinking about shaving my head the other day. By the rate I'm going my thinning hair will be noticeable in 12months. I've made up my mind I rather shave my head and not have to deal with all the hair loss drama.
So anyone here will shave their heads if their hair is noticeable thinning?

I had half an hour with the guy, and to be honest my hairloss is only one of my main concerns...
He has given me something for my flushing and tells me it is rocesea, the random scarrs i have appear he agrees are definenelty not from acne (have posted pics in scar forum). Basically in my case he and i both believe my cappilaries have been effected and he said it may dissapate with time, but the prescription he has given me should help with my flushing and possibly hairloss.... He didn't go into great detail with the hairloss however. But he says i have good chances coz of the substancial regrowth i have... But i will go into more detail for you all at my next app...
I think the reason why minoxidil helps with some accutane hairloss victims is due to the same reason, e.g. minox is a vasodilator and allows the vessels to relax and feed the follicle more normally....

I agree that that is why Minox probably works.
I was just about to post something to the effect of what your doctor said: if you see any regrowth at all, it means the hair loss is not permanent. Whether it's MPB is another issue.
I have regrowth, but still shed. I think my hair is getting thicker and thicker. But goddamn the shedding.
Andy all im going to say is reffer to the case of julius!! he has similar side effects to me, in that his cappilaries seem to of been effected due to his sensitivity to hot and cold in the limbs...
I hope it will one day atleast slow down....

I have been told i have no aspect of MPB, e.g. no miniturization... Funny thing is actually, i have been using emu oil on my scalp for a few months now as it calms down the itching so so much... and guess where the majority of my regrowth is? lol i swear to you my hair is thicker on top of my scalp than on the sides now....by quite a bit.

Then you are very lucky. Who cares about the sides, really? It's the top that counts.
I've been told that I have a tiny bit of miniaturization. Like an inconsequential amount that will result in some genetic hair loss. I kind of expected this, and don't care. I don't care if I recede a little. I just need density.
