i'm not even sure if my shedding has stopped or what. in the shower i still lose a lot more hair then i used to. 20ish or so, but my hair looks no different than it has in the last couple months since i've been keeping track of it.

i just don't know anymore.

Well im shedding like mad, it is regrowing pretty quickly but it just has no chance of keeping up, it's feeling very thin to me. That is one thing which is strange because if my hairloss is due to lupus, hair is normally very slow to regrow from it. I saw mass regrowth after 2 month of shedding, to the point where my hair almost went back to normal thickness, maybe i can still hope all my symtoms are all just seperate issues and that this is just a bowt of TE!!

If you have regrowth, I don't think it's lupus. I mean, we have to think about how Accutane causes lupus, if it does at all. It's an issue of vasculitis, or constrained blood flow. Either the blood flow is so cut off that the hair follicle can't get fed by the blood and therefore dies. Or it's just sort of cut off, in which case the hair follicle starves a little - but doesn't die - and goes into resting.

Again, if you've got regrowth, you're cool, man.

Hope so buddy, i really dunno why im getting ulcers, been dizzy, wierd skin sensations when out in the sun etc, i mean these things may just be caused due to changes in skin structure from accutane. I will be getting the ANA test though, i want to rule it out!!

I thought lupus hairloss was simply a case of the body seeing hairs as foreign objects and causes inflamation at the hair follicle? anyway my previous post still applys, if i do have lupus it is mild, and maybe with time it will correct itself!!

Just a shot in the dark: maybe the inflammation caused by constrained blood flow causes the body to view the inflamed hair follicles as a foreign object? Who knows.

But you're absolutely right. Get the test! Rule it out!

Nearly 5 months off tane here, 3.5 months of shedding, don't be silly dolph, look at the condition of your hair before you make any rash decisions :P

I have to say, all parts in my hair are tightening up. This morning, when I woke up and checked, they were incredibly tight. Again, I won't have an adequate assessment of my situation until September (General David Petraeus himself will be giving an update).

I just want to say to Rudolph and everyone else that I, too, felt like dying - and still do, from time to time - because of this horrendous situation. But you have to wait the 6 months. Really, you do. Just wait six months. Then assess.

Good shit brother!! a few things...when is my second 'wave' of regrowth due? according to your theory i mean, because it is a bit early to say but i feel my hair may be thickening at my scalp again *touch wood*. I will try an find the theory you posted for my loss ina sec, see if it is due, if so your theory could be looking even more applicable!!

Secondly when we read in articles that say the patient recovered after 6 months, typical of TE, this is reffering to the shedding is it not? because we all know a year can be what it takes for hair to fully recover.

When your derm originally told you 6-8 months, was that reffering to the shedding coming to an end?

Ok just checked the diagram you made for me, regrowth should not be due yet, but we both know i couldnt give you 100% accurate doseages, so that may be why!!

Bro, my theory says at 5 months. [Edited link out]

Does it fit?

Aha. We were posting at the same time. I just want to add that my diagrams are +/- 10 days off at each stage, because I estimated the telogen phase to last 3 months rather than 100 days. Just a thought.

i just lost 26 hairs in the shower (i know that's nothing compared to what i used to lose, but man, when you add the fact that the towel always has a lot on it...we're getting up to 50ish hairs). this is getting ridiculous. i mean, i feel as though i am still shedding. a few weeks ago my hair felt thicker than it has and now it feels thinner again. i'm a little over 5 and a half months off tane...when is this going to stop?

Bud it will stop, im sure it will!! with tane TE i think you need to wait atleast 8 months post tane, due to it staying in your system for almost two months after your last pill..

As for my hair, it is gonna have to be shaved off soon, my fringe is shit now, really looks stupid, what grade do you think i should go for?

go for a 2 or 3, i think the darker your hair the better it looks shorter, if you have really dark hair you could go for a 1 or 1/2...

I have dark brown, probably as dark as brown gets, borderline black.. alot of people say it looks black sooo, at the end of the day, i just hope i can keep a decent skin head for the forseable future, e.g. looks like i have it out of choice!! i'm really not letting this hairloss shit get me down like before, even tho it is looking shitter by the day, what the hell can we do? not alot really!!

How often is that washing though dude? every 4 days? its NOTHING, serious as the years go by hairloss goes up and down naturally anyway, when i was 18 i used to loose alot of hair then between 18-19 it went down to nothing whatsoever. You could either be going through that, or you just have some hairs lagging behind and now they are just wakeing up, it is slowing dude you probably used to loose 15 in the shower that you never saw anyway, i mean i say i lost nothing but i must have lost a few here and there...

rudolph, im at in the exact same situation as you pretty much, i remember when you started taking it.. that was about the same time i started accutane .. u stopped after about 2 months cause of hairloss.. so did i. I currently am still shedding, but it seems to be mostly in the back and sides.. not much on top or in front. I try not to check in the shower.. cuase it bums me out.. but ill probably get 10-20 hairs throughout teh day when running my hands through my hair.. I do see a bunch of small hairs at the front.. not too many maybe 10... but maybe thats just the starting. I was also wondering when derms say it takes 6 months or so.. does that mean shedding stops after 6 months? or your suppose to have you old full head of hair after 6 months?

Yeah i asked the same question silver, it MUST be for the shedding to stop, because many articles online say sheding slowly tappers off over a period of 6 months, so...

Hi Silver,

If you're losing hair from the back and sides, that isn't so bad. Also, to answer your message, one month is indeed better than 2 weeks. It sounds like you'll be fine.

Im loosing a lot of hair lately and I can't find one positive story over the net about hair loss and accutane. How come my eyebrows grow back and I can't get any new thick hairs on my temple?

There are a few out there, but the trouble is when people recover they normally just want to forget about that period in their life and don't repost. There is a recovery story in this thread alone, although he is in the marines and we do not know how much he has regrown, he has indeed stopped shedding and seen regrowth, but also said how bad a state his hair got to over a 4 month period...his board name was gdwrite if i remember correctly. Andy has stopped shedding *touch wood* and is just waiting on regrowth, but it is coming slowly...

there are a few others who posted saying their hair also recovered, but gdwrite was on the boards actively for a while before his shedding stopped, so i consider him part of the original gang in this thread...

I don't get it, man. Why would I be high? I mean, I wish I were. If anything I'm down.

So I continue to shed small hairs, but only about 5 a day. It's very depressing, but there are still many, many short hairs all over my scalp. I'm hoping that my diagram predicted this and that it will end in another week or so. My hair is looking better and better, I have to admit. And it feels thicker, too. I think 2 more months of regrowth, and I'll be OK. Which is insane.

But hopes are made to be dashed.

Shedding stops before month 6, according to the doctors. And regrowth starts after month 6. So you won't have your hair back until at least month 9.
