oh seems like you all are under the 6 month mark, chances are you guys hair will regrow.
but that bad thing in my case is that im starting to get some acne and i hate that so much as i know we all do. know that the side effects are temp. I might go on another course if my acne gets worse. any reccomendation for any treatment thats not accutane that you guys have found very good.

Mikey,
Why do you say that there's still a good chance, just because we're under 6 months?
Here is a publication about telogen effluvium which I'm sure you've all seen. It says regrowth happens at 12 to 18 months. [Edited link out]
Mikey, about your recurring acne: can't you use topicals at this point? If the acne is coming back, it's not coming back as bad as before, right?
It's very strange. When I examine my hair, I still think it's bad. And yet I have to admit that I've been able to style it better and that it feels thicker.
Do you all think it comes back all at once or a little bit at a time?
well yeah, its not as bad as before but if im getting a lil maybe more will come and i will get bad acne like i had before, thats what im scared of. well i'll see if it gets worse then i'll go on some topical(benzamycne) was a good one. about the 6 months, like me im about to have 6 months and im noticing my hair being more thicker and stuff so for me theres some credibility to around 6 months atleast give it 6 months before saying its the end of the world and you'll be bald. I was on that route about 3 months ago i thought all my hair was gonan fall out. then its slowly stopping.

I agree with that: everybody (including me) starts thinking the sky, or the hair, is falling at month 2 and 3. We have to wait a least a year. It's time to face up to that.
Sorry as to have not been around for a little while, but i promised myself i was going to enjoy last week and not worry at all about my hair loss which i did, however now it's over and so it begins again. anyway, i am over the 6 month mark post accutane and my hair has not gotten any better what so ever/ the diffuse loss in the pictures i posted is still the same as it was then probably a little worse, my front hair line has receeded slightly just based on the diffuse thinning, i have noticed pretty much zero regrowth, and i still shed around 30-50 hairs a day. granted the shedding has been gradually slowing down but 30 in the shower every day plus 10-20 throughout is way too much. bottom line is the front bang area which used to cover my forehead is completely gone fuckin vanished poof. while one can't look at me and say right away that i am losing hair they can probably notice the thinner texture of it overall. i think the main point is that i was dealing with hair loss for so long on accutane i didn't quit soon enough and now i'm screwed much like julius much like the rest of us. granted some will recover or some may notice the loss stabilize but the more i research the less likely i feel especially in my case that i will recover. i've lost 60% of my hair my scalp on top of my head is becoming noticeable at times which never happened before in my life. i think we all need to take into account that when refering to accutane hair loss it seems to take on a different life of it's own than TE. But as far as researching it goes here are some discoveries i've made with real life people that have taken this shit. I was talking to my brother over the week about it all, and as he just graduated high school he made the following statement, "Now that i think about it, a lot of people i know who took accutane have very thin hair." his best friend took it 3 and a half years ago guess what, the kid has a buzz cut and is noticeably losing hair at the back and some in the front, another one of his friends took it years ago and has extremely thin hair to this day, i actually know a girl from college who went on two cycles of it and has very thin hair now, thinner then the average girl. she can't grow it out and has to wear extensions when she goes out. Bottom line is the problem is a lot more common than people think. In long term i would say 40% maybe more exerience some form of long term hair loss but many dont relate it directly to the drug. Bottom line is I'm screwed I need to get on propecia and arimidex to combat sides and regrow, but more importantly stop the hair loss. i have the propecia but the fuckin scam of an online pharmacy that i ordered m,y arimidex from a month ago stole my money from me as i havent gotten it yet and am trying to get in touch with the feds to help me out with it. This waiting game isn't going to work, trust me many many people don't recover it's a 50/50 variable probably less. the whole 90% recovery rate thing is the mild hair loss experienced on the drug. as said before in my case game over.

Ithappens,
Haven't I been off Accutane for longer than you? I've been off since January 17. 5.75 months. I thought you said you got off in February?
Also, people losing their hair years after Accutane does not mean much. I don't think it's a 50/50 shot. All stats point to much higher odds.
We just have to wait. Just a little longer.

true i did miscacluate but it is very close to 6 months. i'm just saying that even at 5 and a half months right now i dont see things turning around anytime soon.
yea Rudolph, I started to lose hair after my 5th month on accutane. And like 2 weeks in the accutane I noticed my hair changing texture. But good news I've noticed my hair getting more fuller lately, before i would be able to see my scalp almost completely now I can bearly see it, so far I've been off acctutane for about 5 months and am still losing hair but not as much as before, I am taking biotin, flax seed oil with omega3 fatty acids and shampoo every 4 days with a regular shampoo that has b vitamins. the bumps on my head are a good sign to me, because that means my hair is becoming more oily and thus my side effects of accutane are dissapearing, can't have pimples without eccess oil. I dont know thats just my speculation why I see the few pimples on my head as a good thing.
*edit : how long have you been off accutane rudolph, david, Baravykas, mypoorhair
Im on my second course.
i have potentially great news guys. i've gone two days now without seeing a hair fall onto my bed, feel a hair in my shirt, etc etc. when i look in the mirror there used to always be hairs poking out more than others and i'd pull on them and they'd come out. i haven't seen a hair fall from my head in 2 days and as those of you with major hair loss know, seeing a lot of hair fall out through the day is super normal. i also just combed my hair and lost no hairs for the second time today. i'm super pumped, but i won't know for sure if it's stopped till i wash my hair. hopefully this is the end of my hair loss!

Dont let yourself get too confident because I let that happen to me and the emotional pain you feel when you realize it's not over is a lot to handle.
Wassup guys...
(great news David, i'm really pleased for you, this is the end of your hairloss now, i know it)
Back from the old vegas, and same as ithappens i was trying my best to not let my hairloss get to me!! Ok, i am still getting regrowth although i would say my hair is thinner than it was a few weeks ago? very strange, it is as if the regrowth comes in waves? i do still see the shorter hairs tho and even more than before along the hairline. My shedding has increased the last week or so, i am now at the 2 and a half months of shedding, my temples do seem to have receeded slightly and i will probably start minox if my hairloss doesn't stop in the next month, the regrowth at my temples isn't as great as elsewhere, i am probably looking way to closely though!!.
If it is one thing i have learn't from all of this is that we should not sacrifice our health for our vanity. I refuse to take propecia, as it reminds me of roaccutane, it seems perfectly safe for many, But for a select few you have some very serious side effects...which are indeed real!!
also i would say that my hair is now thinnest on top and the sides, with the very back of my hair being the thickest, the difference is very very minor though.
24 pages is impressive guys 😉
just wanna give you guys the only sort of positive thing i can muster... keep in mind if you are unlucky enough to get the permanent hair loss from accutane, the first 18 months are by far the worse... its not like your hair continues to deterioirate at that massive rate constantly... the deterioiration of my hair has occurred VERY slowly over the past 4 yrs.. the first two were a different story however..
also, for those considering minox and propecia... i have been on them for 4.5 years.... i can definately say they wont regrow all of your hair, but I really can't say whether or not they have slowed or helped with my accutane hair loss..
It's very strange. When I examine my hair, I still think it's bad. And yet I have to admit that I've been able to style it better and that it feels thicker.
Do you all think it comes back all at once or a little bit at a time?
That first sentanced reminded me of 2-3 weeks ago when i had a sudden bowt of hair growth, sounds just like what i experienced!! I definenetly don't think it all comes back at once, i mean we didn't loose it all at once right?
One thing i learnt while i was away, is that lighting and the mirror u use etc, to inspect your hair will determine how easy it is to see regrowth. The light and mirror in the hotel was useless for it and i had a hard time seeing what i could see at home.
Here i can get inches from the mirror and have a light either side of it, which shine directly on to the mirror. This enables me to see any regrowth very easily, and i know for a fact i had a wave of regrowth...
Another positive thing i have noticed is that my hair is becoming softer as the weeks progress, and i would say it is very similar to how it was before tane texture wise... One thing i do notice is i have some flakeyness on my scalp when i look very close and i have been itching more the last few days, which totaly dissapeared for a few weeks.
Some really strange things going on all in all!!

What do others think? Does the hair grow back all at once or in the order in which we lost it?
I don't know what's going on: on the one hand, my hair is thicker than when this all began. On the other hand, I'm not satisfied. By the way, I do see hairs that are much shorter than the others. Is this regrowth, or just growth from unaffected follicles?
And on a side note: I've been borrowing my roommate's shampoo - because I'm to lazy to go buy my own. This morning, I was reading the ingredients. When I saw "biotin," I was excited. But when I saw "vitamin A," I was not so excited.
I want to suggest the following: perhaps we should assume that the hair loss was caused by some kind of slight inflammation. In which case shampoos with lavender might help. Also, oral ibuprofen (Advil, for instance) is supposed to help with inflammation in general. Though it is said that ibuprofen, taken in large doses, can also cause hair loss.
Just some thoughts. My sixth month will be in about one week, by the way.
I would think the short hairs you are seeing Andy, will be regrowth. So long as you see quite a few of them... I personally know for a fact i am seeing more than normal, plain and simply because i lost so little hair before this all started that i know it isn't possible for me to of had that many new hairs...
I don't think we will see regrowth at the same rate we lost it at all... I don't believe the hair shedding is due to new hairs forming and pushing out the old ones. But is the follicles way of prepareing for new growth...which is seen x number of months after the shedding of that individual follicle. Many new theories support this idea. Now the complication comes if our follicles are damaged in some way...
You also need to realise Andy, that you have only been using minox what 2 months? it takes atleast 4 to begin to see results from it, this isn't factoring in time given for the rest of your follicles to 're-awaken' I'm sure you will see much more regrowth yet!!
alright, so when i showered i lost probably 20-25 hairs, so i am still experiencing hair loss. however, 20ish hairs is nothing compared to the 80 or so i'd easily lose in the shower before. i don't even know anymore. is losing 20 int he shower and a few when you run your hand through your hair normal? my friend with a little longer hair than me, and basically the same type of hair has a lot of hair in his sink after he combs his hair, and loses hair a lot through the day. maybe where i am is normal and i just never noticed it till it was brought to my attention. who knows. i just hope it SLOWS down more and pray it doesn't speed up again to what it once was.

David,
I think it's slowing down for you. We've all heard the "It's normal to lose 50 to 100 hairs a day" crap, but I don't buy it. We should be losing no more than 20 hairs a day, if that.
I still continue to not shed anymore. But why aren't I regrowing hair? Or am I?
"I don't know anymore" is exactly right. I am starting to think that we won't notice the hair growing back. And one day we'll just have thicker hair and say, "Huh. I've been growing it back all along." As I've said, my hair feels and looks thicker all of a sudden. Perhaps in two more months, I will feel like I've grown most of it back.
Keep the faith.
well, like i said, it was a lot less hair than i used to lose in the shower. i just want it to completely stop and not speed up like what happened to rudolph. i'm pretty afraid of it possibly speeding up again. and i think the regrwoth is probably gradual. you'll get thicker hair, like you have, then a little later even thicker and you'll just keep noticing it.
Buddy, i think loosing 20 (when you only wash your hair every few days) is perfectly normal, even if you wash it once a day!! we probably did loose som that we never noticed. So you may be say 10 hairs a day off being back to normal, which like you say is nothing compared to before...
Like Andy said, it really pisses me off when people say its normal to loose up to 100 hairs a day, i know what is NORMAL for me, and what im looseing now is not the norm!!
I think the regrowth will mostly just creep back in, i mean it's not like you can visibly watch them grow in all of a sudden, like when they fall out...
Okay Im still losing hair but all the hairs that I lose havent grown in the past 1.5 months at least. I know this becaues I dyed my hair brown 1.5 months ago and I have roots coming in but all the hairs that I lose dont have my natural color at the bottom. Does anyone think that hairs go from anagen to telogen AFTER the accutane? Like if I'm still losing hair in 3 months would it be hair that is actively growing right now? If not then this means that if I could look close enough at the hairs on my head I can see ALL the hairs that are destined to fall out because of the accutane, because they don't have my natural color at the bottom.
Well dolph all i know is some of the hairs i loose are getting longer, which i think is wierd, i dont loose as many long ones as others though..!! I have just flown out to florida from the UK, and u know what, when i fly i loose so much more hair than i do normally, firgure that one out!!
Oh the saga continues. well first off david it's good to hear that your hair loss is slowing down and that your not losing as much in the shower anymore. my whole thing with the accutane hair loss is that i feel that in many cases from the people who lose a minimal amount of hair to people who are a worst case scenario such as myself and julius, is that the hair loss is permanent to an extent. however, what varies is how many affected follicles there are, and the people with less follicles affected don't even notice the hair lost once it stops. in your case i think it'sll work out as long as it keeps slowing down. as for me i talked to my derm and he basically felt bad and said that propecia was probably the only thing i could really do. as far as my situation my hair has gotten to the point where the front part of it is very very thin. in bright light it is now very easy to see my scalp through my hair, and worst off i'm still losing hair. it's frusturating cause the loss on the top is so diffuse. i don't see how i could really ever really regrow my hair to nearly the point it was a year ago, the loss is just too extreme. hopefully, the propecia works. I came across a couple posts where there were guys suffering from accutane hair loss who claimed to have regrown most of their hair with it so hopefully that's the case for me. Recently i have done a lot of thinking and i think that some of the side effects that i've had with the accutane and the hair loss are all inter-related. What i think happened to all of us, and granted i think it ocurs in variable degrees of severity is that our sebaceous glands (oil glands) all over our body are damaged. For instance, i used to tan very easily and get very dark in the summer now i can't tan for the life of me. the oil on a person's body helps this process, and while my body doesn't feel overly dried out i know for fact i have less oil all over. my legs are white, my face is white and hyperpigmented. also my sweat doesn't taste the same way anymore (yes kinda disgusting i know but i mean i sweat it goes in my mouth), there's less oil all over my body and it could be affecting my hair as well. i also have been getting these smal red goose bumps on my arms and a spot on my face called keratosis pilaris. it's an inflamation involving the hair follicle. it's interesting cause there's variances to teh disease and one of them includes severe alopecia occuring. anway just thought i throw that out there. in my opinion i dont really know about anyone really regrowing their hair back, but i can say that i'm pretty certain in most of your guys cases out there the loss should stop eventually. for people like me and julius though it's time to hit the buzzer or get a hairpiece in the not to distant future.
Well, I don't want to get too excited. However. This morning, after taking a shower, I decided to do something I haven't done in a while - to inspect my hair closely and look for regrowth. And guess what. All of my hair is very long, but I saw a lot of very short hairs. A little less than half-an-inch long. This may be why I've been experiencing a feeling of thicker hair recently. I am not going to get my hopes up, but there are short hairs and a lot of them.
Two things are interesting:
1. The length indicates that the hair began growing about two to three weeks ago, i.e. right after I stopped shedding from the Rogaine.
2. I am approaching 6 months. And it's been about 96 days after I stopped shedding, i.e. the same amount of time that Lamarr took to regrow his hair.
Again, I really am not going to get my hopes up. Maybe I'm just seeing things. But there are short hairs all over. This would be a miracle.
Also, the hairs are pigmented, but they are slightly finer. So I am worried on that front. However, I've heard that the first new hairs are usually finer. So who knows.
ONE MORE TIME: I am not getting my hopes up. I see what I see, but who knows. Who knows, who knows, who knows.
