I've helped a lot of people on this site, but apparently after posting it like three times, nobody will help me with my most burning question. Nevermind then, I guess that's not how it goes.
B/C we don't have a 100% answer. Is your hair going to recede more, Is it done receding since finishing your Accutane course?????
Who knows it may it may not. Not to mention it obviously runs in your family MPB as you speak of your brother, in which case accutane could speed up the process.
You have to remember some of us are suffering more then just hairloss, and some of us have been around for a long time trying to help people, but we also sometimes need a break.
Take the time and read through the thread it may answer your question. I remember when I was first having issues, I spent hrs reading.
Augustspy- Sorry to hear that, I think topicals can be just as bad. Can you please elaborate on your comment about liposomal G stuff??? How does it push out the excess vit A????
I had mine tested after fasting 8 months from Vit A and it was border, that was about 2 yrs ago and I still have problems w/ foods w/ vit A in it even beta form...
Lessett- I wish you the best and hope the regimen they gave you works. I foregot did you have a biopsy of your scalp?????
Hi Oli Girl,
So freaking hard to believe that the topical retin A is as bad as the Tane, but I know from my experience it must be. I've not found very many people posting about the hair loss from topicals. Where are they posting?
Yes, liposomal Glutathione is a major detoxer for the liver. It's a tri-peptide of 3 amino acids. We make it naturally in the liver, but it's used therapeutically to push toxins out of the liver. There are many toxins that create problems for the liver. Supplying exogenous glutathione, or NAC, is great for pushing the liver to release it.
A supplement that turns into glutathione is NAC. You can get a sustained release formula like this one:
Read the reviews for what people use it for.
When I saw that my liver was over range with vitamin A after two months off retin A that confirmed my suspicions of retin A being the problem. I didn't use it that many times total (maybe 30 times), but the strength was the key.

i want to know more about this glutathione supplement? where can i buy it? is there any brand name so i don't need to serch for it in biology terms...
"Vitamin A excess
Excessive intake of vitamin A causes a toxic condition. Symptoms can include nausea, coarsening and loss of hair, dry and scaly skin, bone pain, fatigue, and drowsiness. The hair loss is a form of telogen effluvium and can become quite severe affecting the entire scalp and body.
There are several drug treatments available that are vitamin A derivatives and have been associated with hair loss in some people. Aciterin, etretinate, retinoic acid, and isotretinoin are vitamin A derivative drugs. Vitamin A and derivative drugs inhibit cell division and slow down keratinization. This is beneficial when treating conditions such as acne where skin cells are over active and hyperkeratinized. However, too much vitamin A or over use of vitamin A related drugs can cause a slow down in hair follicle activity."
ok I know that this is nothing new....but i found something soothing...this bold!! so it doesn't mean that you have AA if you experience excessive body hairloss!! so stop talking about that as a first condition. You are scarring people.Well at least i was scarred to death becouse i hought that there could be nothing else that diffuse AA
. But since there is still hope....i'm gonna ask my doctor to send me take my vitamins and mineral levels...it could be just that toxicity...althoug...i dont have dry skin...or bone pain...
i think that with me it could maybe just be vitamin a toxicity....well at least i hope so...
ok so someone is crazy here! i've been to my doctor today and he said that it is not possible to take vitamin or mineral levels from blod...that kind of test doesn't exist...or it is not done...so how come you guys did test your vitamin and mineral levels???it is obviously not possible to me...
Well then your doc must be the crazy one, As I have had Vit A, Zinc, B12, B6, folate, Copper, Vit D(25 hydroxy d2,d3 and total) Iron, L-Car levels, Magnesium levels, potassium levels, phosphrus levels and a few others.
If you think your defiecent in something you can always have a holistic dr, but it may cost you.
I read your other post, noone is saying that you have AA, people have only posted thier experinces of hairloss from accutane, wether it be they developed AA, or TE or MPB or thier hairloss (bodywide or just the head) from Hormonal disorder, autoimmune or autoimmune like disorders from Accutane, Vitamin def etc... You have to read the whole thread which does take time.
Well it could be just plain Vit A toxicity, which it is known Accutane is a high dose of Vit A, which yes can be toxic and well Roche states that Accutane can cause Alopecia temp or permanent.
I only gave you adviced based on your posts and responses. Hopefully the birthcontrol will help w/ the testerone and your hair in return.
But if like you posted on the previous pg and you think you have just Vit A/accutane toxicity then I would advise you to maybe rethink taking that multi vit w/ A in it.

well i suppose that it is just my doctor then...i felt like i'm the crazy one when i was in his office..
No i didn't say that someone said that i have aa, but tere is tendency here to whenever someone say that they have body hair loss to say "excessive hair loss is a big indicator of AA" or something like that...and i find this very disturbing becouse if you have it - you are in it for life...as a matter of fact i read this whole thread 2 times...this is another reason why i said this ...in the beggining of the thread everyone thought that this type of hairloss is just TE, or MBP...and then started speculations about autoimmune hairloss...and things like that...
i stopped taking multivitamin...and i researched drug stores for new multivitamin vithout vit A in it...but there is none. this is why i decided to take blod samples and find out what exactly i am missing...and try taking only things i miss...
news about my hairloss...
I think that i'm having a good week....my armpits have filld in somewhat but are not even near to what they looked like...as i said previously i stopped shedding eyebrows and eyelashes....but i am losing my hair like as always....yesterday while showering i lost about 50 hair...+some till the day..i assume that would be like 80+/-
I don't know what to think about daily hair loss...i always lost much hair...esspecially while i was showering (washing hair) only thing that i'm worriead is that it has thinned quite a bit....i would say 30 - 40 %..i still have a lot of hair since i had hair for 3 heads...i dont have scalp inflammation..only dandruff which is somehow normal to me...and that would be all i guess...
P.s. does anyone with hair loss has problems with skin thinning.... i mean i can see more veins on my body than normally..and i have skin healing problems...i wonder if this hair problem is relaated to skin problems...?
since i can't find out what minerals and vitamins i'm missing i'm thinking about to start some natural wealth vitamins for hair
it contains :
biotin 15 Ag, pantothenic acid 6 mg, niacin 18 mg, folic acid 200 Ag, vitamin B6 2 mg, vitamin B12 1 Ag, iron 14 mg, copper 1,4 mg, iodine 0,1 mg, manganese 4 mg, zinc 15 mg, magnesium100 mg, selen 10 Ag
oli girl is there anything else i could miss becouse of accutane? what else did you had defficient?
Hey people! I just thought I would update:
Method of treatment- Absolutly nothing!
It has been 4 1/2 months since the excessive shedding began ( 8 months since I took my last Accutane pill) and I am still shedding. Some days worst than others, at worst 150 a day at best 60-100. Head and shoulders helps the dandruff and itchy scalp. The scalp pain and soreness that I was feeling in the beginning has stopped.
My hair looks limp and lifeless. My scalp is not visible but hair is VERY thin. I am growing hair, I can see lots of baby hairs poking through but again... I continue to shed, it's a very strange cycle.
I have learned to style my hair in ways so that it looks fuller then it actually is. I wash it every other day, sometimes every 2 days if I could help it.
My hair is getting pretty long and I want to cut a couple of inches off but I'm sooooo worried about what the hairstylist would think or say when he or she combes it and tons of hair falls out (his or her face ) Ugh!!!
Any advice on what to say or do in this case? Should I warn him or her? What the HECK do I say?
lesset do you have any body hairloss? and do you experience that itching all trough the day or few times a day? do you have any other signs of scalp inflamatory? i have dandruff, but i always had dandruff, and itchyness also...it was probably due dandruff...but now...i dont know if it is dandruff or anything else...one day when i counted i lost about 120 strands...but these few days i'm counting...yesterday I lost about 20 and two days ago i lost about 50-60 hair strands (but that day i washed my hair - and I always loose more hair when i'm washing it)
i have a question for all of you loosing hair - does anyone have more sensitive and prone to scarring skin since stopping accutane? I'm 4 months post - and my skin is not healing

That should be fine, the only thing I don't take is the niacin ( due to flushing problems already not sure if 18mg would do anything) and zinc ( as zinc aids Vit A, i would tread lightly on the zinc)

Don't be worried Lesseet, I didn't cut too much off my hair maybe about 1-2 inches and I have long hair. I was worried about it growing back legnth wise as I am not a short hair person. I would just let them know that you have had some problems with hair loss and she what they suggest. Mine was comforting and wonderful with advice, I am sure yours will be too.
@oli girl- Thank you! I'm thinking about cutting some long layers and maybe some side bangs to give my scalp more volume, it looks so limp

No, I am not experiencing body hair loss , well... no more than usual.
My scalp itches, but only a few times throughout the day, not everyday mostly when its dirty.
I do have, what feels like, tiny pimples on my scalp that itch but Head & shoulders helps that. No redness.
My skin heals just fine. As for scaring... I'm not sure, I haven't noticed an increase in scaring. All the hyperpigmentation I had while on accutane is gone and when I do get the random zit (here and there) it clears up quickly with no visible scars.
anyone who is loosing body hair, do you see regrowth after hair has fell of? my eyelashes/eyebrows are still ok...they didn't fall of for a month now... the worst shedding is on my armpits...and maybe a litle bit on my pubic area...and, although i can't say that i loose much hair it is significatly thinner...i've been shedding for 2 and a half months in total now... nobody is writing here...maybe things are getting better for some...like texasboy...or rav98...
I've had hair loss, doctor did a biopsy and says I don't have MPB, but "non-scarring alopecia". He could not figure out what kind of non scarring alopecia though.
It's pretty scary that one of the most renowned dermatolgists in Canada can't even identify the type of hair loss I have after taking this drug.
I personally regret taking it, I would've rather had the acne than the hair loss because acne is viewed by many as a common condition, I don't think people viewing a balding mid-20s man as normal.
On the plus side, my acne is very limited now and has been since I last took accutane, but looking back, I would've gladly had those zits and kept my mane.
I really don't know what to think about this whole thing!!as you know i'm loosing my hair, armpit and pubic hairs - same has happened with eyebrows/lashes but it stopped. But this is really weird...as I loose hair on my armpits most abviously I can examine it avery few days...and it is really weird! when i first loose hair on armpits, there was a bald spot...about 2-3 mm...and then i shaved my armpit again, and that place started to fill in again...not as much hair as there was but it filled in...and now i can see in some other place on my armpti that i'm missing some hairs...so i don't know what to think about it...i loose hair but it also grow back a bit...i really need someone to share with me if he have body hairloss if it is happening to them also...or they just loose air and then it is bald there..??
volcom, how long have you been shedding for?
I noticed loss over a year ago. Thankfully it the shedding seems to have died down, but my hair is still thinner, and my corners have receded some + overall thinness up front. Don't expect the hair on my corners to come back. I'm sure I was predestined for this hair loss, but I certainly think Accutane accelerated it significantly. My only hope is that my hair starts to thicken up more soon to how it used to be. Really hard to tell the "damage" seeing as it's been 13 months since I've cut my hair.
