Well with texasboy, I believe he indicated his derm diagnosed him with MPB after a biopsy correct? So it's likely his hair would've been lost anyway, but accutane just sped it up.

Me personally I tested negative for MPB after a biopsy, but as of 14 months later, hair still remains thin.

Ivmi, it seems like we have had the exact same thing happen to us. 9 days in

- Scalp started peel and buring everywhere

- Eyelashes, eyebrows, armpit hair, chest hair, and public hair was falling out.

- Hair falling out all over head. Hair line didn't reseed though

8 months later

- + scalp isn't peel anymore. A little itchy in the area were the hair is falling out at that moment.

Hair still falling out everywhere though not as much atleast I think of have gotten use to all the falling out. It does grow a bit. And then fallout.

The hair has become curly, bent, swirly.

I'm pretty sure acutance has given me AA. I hope in time it does heal.!!!

9 days of acutance cost 2 years of my life.

- Couldn't focus in class, failed a bunch of classes.

- Real depression for the first time in my life.

- Lost my job due to depression and stress of all this bulls**t. But just got a new one last month.

I work out 7days a week, am in really good shape. Started mediating it's been helping a bit.

I have been on proscar to block dht. No MBP In our family.

p.s. I had colitis when I was 12, Spent 2 years in out of the hospital. Two 10hr surgeries. 2 days in ICU. 7 tubes sticking out of my body.

This is much worse for me.

i do understand what ur going through because i'm going through it as well. i'm really trying to stay postive but its hard.

try flor essence tea, Alpha Lipoic acid (ALA) for autoimmue disease

hm...do you still loose eyelashes and eyebrows?i mean more than usual...?i loose lashes like every normal person now...about 1-2 sometimes 3 a day...wen i rub my eyes...same thing with eyebrows...(but at time there was like 7-8 lashes or more trough the day,and maybe even more eyebrows)i can notice only on my armpits still that there are some spots where I dont have hair...and also maaaaaybe a bit on my pubic area...I don't have hair changes...mine is stil straight...normal, just like it used to be...only my ponytail is thinner now...i also don't have receding hairline - just diffuse thinning.About my scalp - it doesn't burn it's just flaky and sometimes itchy...does yours look like normal dandruff?Becouse mine looks just like dandruff...i never experienced burning or other inflammatory signs...i wonder if you have problems with your skin healing and thinning of skin?Becouse i have that problem, also....one thing that is different from you is that i didn't experience hair loss until 1 and half month after those 9 days of intake...

oh, i forgot to ask you if you ever been sick after accutane, and if you were have you noticed a decrease in shedding , or maybe you stopped shedding?

Just an update on my situation. 6 Months post accutane and still no hair regrowth. It is also becoming visible because of some parts with less hair.

I don't think ill have any hair left in 2 months -_-

You'll have hair. I know it's hard, but I think part of it is our mind really tricking us. I know I've had the hair loss, and I know I can see a difference, but you'll still have hair :D

I am sure you would still have hair even after 2 years. Just remember that there are treatments out there for hairloss like Laser, Minoxidil, Copper peptide, Benovate and of course Hair transplant, if needed.

Just try to stay positive and do what is right for your health by eating right and exercise at least twice a week.

Personally, I try not to allow my problems (not just hair loss but auto immune disorders as well) to bereft my confidence and I am pretty fastidious when it comes to what I eat these days.

It sounds kinda stupid, but I've been wearing a cap lately and cutting my hair shorter, it seems to make me forget about my hair loss situation for now until I go see my dermatolgist again in 2 weeks

To be honest I'm too scared to cut my hair. For one, I do like it longer, but it's been 14 months since I cut it, and throughout the whole time has been from the start of my Accutane shedding. some days my hair looks incredibly thin, but since it's long and overlaps, it looks ok unless I examine it closely. Would it make sense that my hair loss is going to be like, super magnified since it's happened over this period in which I haven't cut my hair one time? I'm just so afraid of how it might look short again. I hated haircuts before, but if it looks or feels really thin after it could put me in a depressive state for some time (sounds lame I know).

It's pretty frightening to see how thin it is like forming a big receding hairline, but the thing is, it's pretty much that same thickness around the sides and back too (probably top as well), so I imagine it's this universal hair loss on my head. I probably only think of my front being worse because I look at it the most. Granted, my hairline has receded quite a bit since the beginning of treatment I noticed.

I haven't been doing much or taking anything to improve my hair loss. Just doesn't seem like anything has worked, and I haven't seen any little hairs popping up like my derm said as well. Any words of encouragement or perhaps some tips that might assist me would really help right now.

Good luck everyone. :)

Hey all,

I took accutane about a year ago, did wonders for my acne. Didn't experience much hairloss when I was on the drug or at least any that I could tell because I've always kept my hair pretty short. I did have a very dry scalp though and had to get some prescription shampoo. But a year later, I've grown my hair to a medium length. myself and my family has noticed it's much thinner. My scalp is still pretty dry, I used the prescription shampoo once a week and baby shampoo 3 times a week. I've always had a very thick head of hair but this is making me terribly nervous. I'm only twenty and do not want to lose my hair. My dad is pretty bald but didn't start losing hair until he was 30. I'm going to see my derm soon. What can I do??

That's what I'm worried about. Not sure whether or not to get a haircut. But I think regardless of noticeable hairloss or not, shorter hair would probably look better.

So I say you should cut it, I'll prob cut mine too :D

Just wanted to give an idea to anyone struggling with hair loss. I have a good friend, 33 years old, healthy by all appearances, never taken accutane, but she has recently been diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder that causes her hair to fall out. She is devastated, especially since she never saw this coming, being so healthy and never having an issue with hair loss before. Her dr. is treating her with a combination of vitamins and steroid medications. I don't know if it's possible any of you have the same issue, but maybe ask your dr. to check for this type of problem? If it's an auto-immune disorder rather than an accutane side effect, the treatment would be totally different. I wish everybody good luck, there is a lot of good info in this thread already, but I thought maybe this could help at least someone. :)

Roche acutally lists that auto immune disorder as a side effect, what your friend has is Alopecia if your speaking of auto immnue disorder of the hair. Most of the side effects listed for accutane are the same side effects that others w/ acutal auto immune disorders suffer from.

Glad to see your still doing well and accutane worked for you Nikkia, You think after 155 pgs of this thread we don't know??? Thanks, but you know better :D

Happy Holidays everyone.

sorry ivmi for not getting back to you. when i had my biopsy in september i was diagnosed with having MPB unfortunately. i dont know how accurate that is because i have read that some derms cant tell the difference between MPB and TE in their early stages. however, the excessive loss around my crown (you've seen the pics) seems to point towards MPB. i do lose a lot of armpit hair and eye lids if i ever pull on them, so yes, i do lose body hair

I'm 5 onths post and i have very thin skin and slow healing problems...along withs shedding all over my body....i must say that all my hair that shed on my body eventually grows back... skin thinning is a big problem to me... does accutane stays for months in our system? i don't know if it is possible that it is still in me...

you should thank god that it is only shedding! i also took it for only 9 days and im also shedding hair AND all my body hair, plus my skin has thinned so much that i can see all my veins, every pimple leaves a scar, and i have red marks that don't fade at all...they are here for 5 and half months. I would be very happy if the shedding is my only problem....Not that i'm telling you that you should be happy, but i'm just telling you that 9 days is same thing as if we took the whole course...obviously there is no difference between long term taking and short term taking the pills...You can't imagine how much I regret taking it for 9 days only!
