Well, everything went strangely right.

I asked the receptionist if the doctor speaks english. She said yeah and in 5 minutes I was asking the roaccutane.

It's amazing how easy you can get it. I mean, no blood test, no creams first, right to the point. I asked 2 years of pills.

Since my case isn't severe, he told me to take a pill once a week. Actually he said I was being perfectionist. Well, I'm korean. Only work with perfection haha

By the way, it was 15.000w for a consult. The receptionist was sorry for being expensive. I actually thought it is amazingly cheap, was expecting something like 200.000w

Total: 15.000+60.000

Hahaha

I'm taking 10mg/week.

Since I came to korea and totally changed my diet, I got my neck with tiny pimples and noticed my face oily, in adition with redness around my cheek.

Never had problems with acne before. It's my first time on accutane. Don't want to bother with creams. Straight to the point and let the accutane kill this sheeet

Update:

Happy New Year folks! 2013 was a big year for me and full of changes. Health wise, I learned a lot about my skin and what goes in my mouth. I also exercised everyday for over a year to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Like the ultra low dose experiment, all these other things were highly beneficial to my skin and my mind. I remember when I first had my course of tane about 3 years ago, I thought I could just treat my body like trash and do whatever I wanted. I would eat junk and I wouldn't play sports. Yeah...my acne was gone but I wasn't getting anywhere else and later the acne would come back. Now, I know that tane is not a cure and there is a lot more to perfect skin than taking a pill.

Everything is going really well right now. It took a long time for the 10 mg a week to do it's thing, but I can see now it is really working. My oil levels are down considerably (but comfortably), my skin is not dry, and my lips are not drying. My eyes are good too. The side effects were far worse when I first started...weird. It has been 224 days.

I will keep this blog up so that others who are in my situation can perhaps use what I used to achieve healthier skin. Good luck folks!

Thank you for keeping up this blog. I and many others really appreciate it. Your skin looks freaking amazing. It looks like the flawless Korean skin that I have always admired. You said in the beginning that all the Korean celebrities are on low doses of Accutane and thats how they maintain their amazing complexions right? Where did you read this from?

I've always thought that the great complexions were results from lasers and photo therapies like IPL but Accutane seems like a feasible reason too.

My skin complexion is like yours. Very light and oily. I was on a heavy dose of 40mg of accutane for 6 months back in 2009. My acne is back now and its not severe but the complexion is really oily and the pores are big with many black heads. The ONLY thing that has ever worked for my skin was Accutane. When I was on it, my pores were non existent and I was amazed at how few blackheads I had.

Nowadays even though my complexion looks greasy with big pores and black heads, I don't get many pimples. However, when I do, I my hyperpigmentation goes insane. Seriously, one tiny pimple on my face will leave a red mark there that lasts over a month. I always get at least one or two pimples a week which wouldn't be that bad for someone who doesn't hyperpigment, but for someone like me with light yellow skin, its more frustrating because of the red mark.

I've tried many things. Jessners, salicylic peels, 2% salicylic acid solutions, benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil, witch hazel, Retin A, hydroquinone, tazorac but my pores are still always large and filled with oil.

You said you don't use any other products on your face right? Not even sunscreen?

I think I might give this low dosage thing a go. I'm sick of having oily skin, huge pores, and pimples that leave red marks that last several months.

I don't know if it's better if I create another topic about this, but since the information here helped me a lot + I'm lazy, here it goes.

10mg/week

Current status: 3rd pill

Started with: lot of tiny pimples around the neck and redness on cheek. Never had problems with acne. First charge on accutane.

Short story about me: Always had a healthy diet and I'm like a gym maniac. My parents are korean, but I don't speak very well. I can tell if they're joking or are mad; basic stuff like good morning and thank you.

Decided to spend my vacation in korea at my cousin's. Diet changed, lots of oil and meat. Can't say no to my aunt and here I am trying accutane for the first time.

1st pill: Felt no difference. No new pimples but still got the same around my neck. Cheek still red.

2nd pill: Neck almost clean. Got 2 whiteheads on my cheek. Nothing changed on diet and still going to gym (never abandon the workout lol)

3rd pill: got a burst around the neck again and more on my cheek. What the... is going on? Sheeet

Looks like I've experienced the initial breakout. Thank God it lasted less than 2 weeks and I'm healing now.

Idk if there'll be another one on the 4th pill. I'm nervous...

I'll keep informing the progress on this thread. No problem, right yu?

Glad to see you doing this experiment too! Hmm, well for me it was a rollercoaster ride in the start. If you read my blog, everything seemed too good at first. But then later on towards the middle it went from, "is this stuff really working? I still have acne after the 3 months." to periods of, "Wow, my skin is perfect." It was up and down and I never really started to trust it until around the 150ish day. That is when my oil levels significantly dropped (I would test myself now and then with an oil wipe) and the consistency in which my skin was clear improved. Now...I still get acne now and then but usually it is small and go away pretty quickly. Still, looks like I have great skin. Hang in there, because it will might take a LONG time for it to really work since we are on such a low dose. If you think it is too slow, ramp it up to 20mg a week and see what happens. Read my blog again too because it will actually tell you about my ups and downs. Good luck!

Hello. I just got a box of Accutane from my doctor. I'm in Mexico and the 20mg box (30 pills) is around $60 dollars here.
Well... I really do not have acne. But I have an extremely oily face. I have been reading your progress and I will follow the low dose treatment.
I will start with 20mg per week. My question is... do you take the full 20mg pill once per week, or do you split and take, for example, 5mg every two days?
Thanks.

Hola! Me llamo Ryan. Rocker, good question. It should not make a difference if u split or take it all at once, as long as the total cumulative for the week is the same. As for me, I take one 10mg a week. If I was doing 20mg, I would spread it apart in two separate days. However, it's not going to make a difference or be a big deal. Rocker, I am very interested in how this works for u so keep in touch! I'm sure your oil will go down!

Actually, I just took the first pill 30 minutes ago, 20mg. But I can't split it. The version they sell here in Mexico is called Neotrex, but it is not a pill but a gel capsule. So, I guess one (20mg) per week should be enough for just oily skin, right?

I will post my progress in this thread.

Mine is gel capsule as well. Yes 20mg is perfectly fine and easy to control based on the slow gradual change it will bring. However, if it is too much, I would suggest taking 20mg every 2 weeks or 9-12 days if ur skin doesn't need 20 mg a week! Finding ur own balance is key.

update:

no side effects but recently I started to get small blemishes here and there. not sure why, maybe it is because I have had too much rice lately. Hopefully it goes away and does not get bigger and inflamed.

Took my 4th pill yesterday and my skin is clear, but my entire body is super itchy. Hating the side effects. Guess it's the price for being free of acne.

Well... Yesterday I took my 4th pill. I'm going to take one 20mg daily for a week (until Friday) just to get the medication into my system. Starting this Friday, I'm just going to take one 20mg pill per week (every Friday).

So far I haven't noticed any oil reduction. As for secondary effects, I have some dryness on my lips (not very noticeable... I have been drinking a lot of water). But the thing I have noticed a lot is eye dryness. My eyes hurt a little bit. I'm going to buy some humectant eye drops today.

Update:

Well, the random blemishes are going away quickly and have not done any damage. it's pretty awesome how it stays very small and goes away quickly. I believe it has to do with the fact that I was sleeping really really late this past month. I would wake up all groggy and I would even have cold sores inside my mouth. Get your beauty sleep people. :)
