My Accutane Journey: Round Two!

Congrats on being bumped up!!! I'm so excited for you! And holy cow on the being half-way done! I just added you on FB.

How do you feel about covering it up with makeup? I effing hate makeup. I only use mineral makeup and even then it doesn't even really cover it up when it's so bad. Plus, putting powder in my open wounds is seriously not good--the areas just end up refilling with pus. sad.png Anyway, do you find liquid makeup aggravates things for you? I'm trying to find the confidence to not wear makeup. I used to wear Aveda tinted moisturizer spf 15 and it left a beautiful, dewy near-flawless finish, but I hated washing it off each night. I hope that our skin will heal and that makeup will be optional from now on.

Best of luck and can't wait to see your progress!

Thanks! I'm so happy she went for it. I knew she was a easygoing dermatologist.

Meh. neutral.gif Covering it up with makeup is a process in itself. When it got bad two months ago pre-Accutane and even during my initial breakout I hated covering it up. I feel like I'm making things worse, just caking on foundation & concealer and then powder on top of all that. My poor skin probably can't breathe. It also just doesn't look good on my skin with these pimples drying out. It looks flaky and makes me want to pick that much more. Liquid makeup can be a real pain in the ass. I've been using Revlon HD foundation & Maybeline superstay concealer, which I love. It definitely doesn't last 14 hours, but it covers up red marks so well. Washing it off is a real pain in the ass though. I remember being able to put on a bit of foundation to leave the house & I want to be able to do that again.

Yay for the dosage increase!! Congratulations. I wonder if I can get my derm to up mine to 80 next month lol.

I friended you on the FB

I'm so happy! Even if it's just 20 more MGs a day, they add up! It seems like every dermatologist is different. The way mine explained it to me is it's either 1mg/kg per day or 2mg/kg per day. But it seems like some of them don't go by that so who knows! Hopefully we both see results with our higher dosages! teehee.gif

Ladies, ladies, ladies... You guys really need to fix your diets, lol. Coffee for breakfast? 3 coffee's for breakfast? SKIPPING breakfast?!?

I'm a anti-accutane person, but I feel like I should give you guys some pointers.

Firstly, cysts and pimples don't form because they're lingering somewhere under your skin waiting to pop out: they're forming because of something you ate, and your body is cleansing it out through your skin. Even though you're on accutane, you will get much quicker results if you start to eat healthier.

Cut off ALL grains. That means: Rice, Pasta, Pizza, Breads, ect... Go to the store and buy yourself 100% Whey protein. Protein will curb any cravings for grains and is very healthy for you. You also are going to want lots and lots of good fats. Go to the store and buy Flaxseed oil. I gaurantee you're going to notice a difference by just taking these simple steps.

Also, please - for your own sake - don't skip breakfast! Eat some eggs and veggies.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in rolleyes.gif

Good luck with your journey!

I agree with you somewhat about how diet affects acne, but there are obviously people with horrible diets who have flawless skin. The past two years i have been on a healthy vegan diet. I did notice a difference in the occurrence of cysts because lactose can aggravate acne that is already forming, but only to a certain point. Most of the time your diet will only affect your existing acne, so it's not really true that what you eat has such a big impact. I would recommend a healthy diet though, because it's always better to feel your best! smile.png

Everybody reacts differently and is exposed to different toxins. Some people can eat crappy food and have clear skin because their body is able to process the toxins better - Others can not. Toxins not only include the crappy food such as pizza, proccessed food, fast food ect but also include: heavy metal toxins, air toxins, water toxins ect. Over several years of this attack on your body, your immune system because weak and unable to battle all the free radicals. If people were just born unlucky with "out of control hormones" then many other people in different parts of the world would also have acne. You never saw Native American's with acne. Acne is a Western diseases. It is purely diet/toxin exposure related. Acne is a choice disease.

I completely cured my acne by eating healthy. Now some people are confused of what healthy is. I don't think a pure vegan diet is considered healthy at all. Did you get your good fats? Did you get enough protien? Did you get enough of the 90 essential vitamins and minerals? 100% of the people who have followed the regimen I did, cured their acne.

I wish I saved my picture when I had moderate-severe acne, but I lost the only picture I took. eusa_think.gif

I went from kinda severe to mild in just 3 weeks. It was almost like a over-night cure.

And now my face is completley clear.

I strongly disagree. Some people's acne may be caused by diet, but I really do believe lot of other people's is hormonal. There is definitely more than one cause of acne, and I would hate to cut out a lot of what I enjoy eating & still have to deal with this stupid disease.

I'm glad your acne cleared up by changing your diet though, that is great.

My question to you then would be:

How come in earlier civilizations, acne was non-exsistant?

Ancient Greece, Native Americans, Jungle Civilizations, Egyptians, and the list could go on...

But thank you, I appreciate it. :)

Really? Because the heiroglyphic carvings of people didn't have pimples?

By the way, writings state that Brutus had awful acne.

They didn't? And what about the other civilizations? The greeks are said to have had the most "beautiful skin" of any other civilization.

Yeah? So where's your proof of this? People often state today that Brazilians have the most "beautiful women" of any civilization... does this mean that there aren't any ugly Brazilian women in existence?

I'm pretty sure the ancient civilizations were too busy fighting off the plague, invading enemies, and wooly mammoths to write full-detailed articles on the discomforts of acne.

Your thoughts are appreciated, but honestly, you are starting to sound like a troll. It's fabulous that you cured your acne by changing your diet. But please don't come on the accutane boards and tell us how we're not making the right choice or there are other options, especially since all you're making are broad generalizations without any solid proof. Thanks.

You're not comprehending what I'm saying are you? You saying "I'm pretty sure the ancient civilizations were too busy fighting off the plague, invading enemies, and wooly mammoths" kind of proves you're retarded - No offense. Do you even know what trolling is? Lmao.

Sure, some people had acne back then but VERY minimal. Not even close to what there is today. You can't connect the dots can you? If it was "hormonal" the same amount of ratio would be the same for the earlier civilizations as it is today. Sounds like you're in denial to me.

I made one post and it's funny how offended some of you get. It's your choice to go the pharmacuetical route - I'm not stoping you. Freedom of choice is lovely isn't it? But don't get butt hurt for me just giving a pointer. I'm only responding to people who are quoting me.

Obviously you don't understand sarcasm.

But you're right! A 22-year-old has solved the cure to acne! Millions of people in the world can rejoice!!!

Please provide support in your statement that "some people had acne back then by VERY minimal." Really, any scientific evidence would be much appreciated.

This is a place for positivity and support. I'm pretty sure that it's not appreciated that you're telling everyone to change their diets and their acne will magically disappear. But hey, how would I, being a "retard," know anything about anything?

I'm not going to argue or turn this into a heated debate on the cause of acne. This is getting really ridiculous, and I don't give a shit anymore what the actual cause of acne is. All I know is that I made the best decision, as well as everyone else here, and that would be getting rid of it with Accutane.

You already made your point, there's no need to keep going.

It's funny how some people like you feel obligated to tell other people not to post on an OTHER person's post. If I'm not mistaken, this is Kaydon's forum right? What gives you the right to tell people not to post on a forum that's not yours? In fact, the OP of this thread said "thank you for the advice" and that would of been the end of it.

I guess some people like you feel like they have some authority of the entire forums and can sit on their high horse demanding people not to make posts.

I never said anything negative or not encouraging. In fact, I was just trying to help. Yes, I'm 22 - But who's the one that's younger and cured their acne, and who's the one that's 27 and STILL has acne?

My question to you then would be:

It's pretty ironic that one of the tenets of naturopathic medicine, which is holistic healing, is to treat the whole person--to be sensitive to their unique emotional, spiritual, mental, etc. makeup. At a certain point, it doesn't do anyone any good to be talking to them so negatively about how they're doing it all wrong, and poisoning themselves, when sometimes the highest healing comes from support, love, positivity, and an ability to meet the person where they are at. I do understand the ability for some people to cure themselves through diet, but some of us have tried no-grain diets to no avail, so I hope that one day you can understand that everyone is on a different healing journey, and that you will not try to convince them to jump on your journey unless they want your guidance.

Here's more info if you want to learn about naturopathic medicine: http://www.naturopathic.org/content.asp?pl=16&sl=59&contentid=59

I see an ND and love natural medicine, but even she agreed that it was time for accutane. So...booyah.

Dang! But thanks for the likes! I am very passionate about healing on different levels. I used to be really hard on myself when treatments didn't work out, but I've learned to be less stubborn, even though I am naturally VERY STUBBORN. Hehe

Also about the vegan diet thing, in my case i was sure to get all the vitamins and nutrients that i needed. That is a common misconception that vegans are "weak" and suffer from not eating meat. But i would really not like to argue about the rights and wrongs of veganism right now as i think it's not the most appropriate place.

Also, sorry Kaydon i didn't mean to start anything here, just wanted to share my experiences! i think we can all agree that we did not cause acne on ourselves and that accutane is hopefully gonna help us all kick acne's ass! 🙂

Opinions are always welcome! 🙂

You're very much right! Regardless of the cause of acne, each person responds to different things. That's what is so frustrating about acne. I know that Accutane worked wonders for me last time, but since I didn't get the cumulative dose I relapsed. I actually relapsed right after starting birth control & then stress took over and made it worse.

Today is a day that I can say that I'm seeing improvement. There's PIH in areas and some spots are still healing, but I'm on my way and this is the first week that I haven't had a flare-up since I started! Thank god for 'tane! surprised.gif

Hello Kaydon, robynb, ginanutrition, veruca salt, beautiful disasters and Taylor!

I've been reading this log for the past couple of days, finally had some time to re-sign-up to the org and join in! :)

I'm also on my second round of the tane, Kaydon! My cystic acne never really came back after the first round - I've got a few, but nothing like I had before I did the 'tane!

I'm only on 20mg, you don't really hear of really high dosages where I come from, most people I know who have been on it have been on 10-20mg, maybe 40mg a day.

My acne's not TERRIBLE at the moment, after four or five years of dealing with acne, I'm almost getting used to it. This level of acne would've driven me to insanity a few years ago, but now my confidence is building and I'm really finding it less of an issue. It does become a massive hassle with shaving (I'm a guy) and the like, and great skin would be an awesome thing to have once again!

I'm on day two of my tane, and I'm excited, and of course a little scared for this whole journey. I'm trying to eat healthier, consuming fruits/veges every day and drinking green tea, etc. Also taking a liver tonic and Evening Primrose Oil - the EPO being a protection against long term side effects (the GLA in EPO is apparently meant to aid the liver in excreting the excess Vitamin A, which is believed to be a cause of long-term symptoms in many people. I'm not necessarily 100% a firm believer in this, but it's worth doing as just a precautionary measure in my opinion)!

Don't worry aboiut overfl00d - no need to be stressing over unwanted comments, we all know what works and doesn't work for us, and have decided that accutane is the best cure for our individual set of needs.

Hope you don't mind me butting in on your thread.

Back to 🙂 I've been 'round the org for about four or five years, last time I was here I released too much personal info and a friend found my account, I freaked out and wiped all my posts 😛 I'm very private about these sorts of things.

Haha, there will be NO raining on any parades from me!

Welcome back to acne.org and I hope that your second course works out for you!!! We're all here for support and advice if needed.

Of course I don't mind, I completely agree with BeautifulDisasters - it's nice to have people join in on conversations as long as it's not negative! 🙂

I would be freaked out if a friend found my account and read my log. Oh god, haha. My Accutane ramblings are only for my fellow 'tane buddies to read!

Funny you mention that... Friend finding out about your account and what not. I was just talking about this today with a few ladies on here. That's exactly why I don't use my name on here or post photos of me. I came across a girls log that google cached on here and when you google acne or accutane on google images her face and log popped up. All the personal photos and everything. Not something I am willing to risk. I am very personal on here, very. But you won't catch my photos or first and last name on here. We need to be aware what you post online never goes away..

Welcome back! I've been started on 20mg too, which is why I think my side effects have been really mild. Always nice to have a new person joining in on the forums 🙂

These pharmaceutical companies should hire us to be paid spokespeople for generic Accutane! I'd show my face for some $$$ 😛 Otherwise... you're just going to have to find me on Facebook!
