What has worked for me: SEA SALT

My backround....34 yr old male......problem goes back to teens.....face, back, chest, arms all affected...and I was a picker (scars/marks/etc)....diagnosed as moderate to severe....I have never taken pictures, but at my worst I have looked as bad as any image on this website.

I have used every variation of every regimen on this website.....to include medicine, diet and behavior.....and did so for periods of up to four weeks....all of which has suppressed the breakouts in different ways.......but never stopped it.

Dermatologists could not help.......stopped going after they would eventually prescribe Accutane.

Long story short.......arrived at the following regimen that has really given me NORMAL skin, not perfect skin, but NORMAL skin....a single pimple every once in a while.....but no more BREAKOUTS.

1) SOAK once a day (twice a day if severe) in baths of SEA SALT purchased at local grocery store. Get water as hot as you can stand it, add approx 30 ounces of sea salt, and soak for 30 minutes. Do not get out until your skin begins to prune.

2) GENTLY exfoliate with synthetic brush while soaking in tub (thanks Jess).....again I said GENTLY.

I take very brief showers after the nightly soak, using Neutrogena Body Wash....but the soap I use doesn't seem to matter.

Results have been a process, not an event. Its been about eight weeks......about a 75% VISUAL improvement and about a 90% improvement in TEXTURE.......big ugly depressed scars/marks from wounds I was told would never heal are gone.

In hind sight, I believe that about 50% of the severity of my skin problems were self inflicted......with the amount and rate of chemicals I have put on my body (and the picking), it is amazing I have any left.

I, like many others on this board, noticed the amazing results of time spent in the ocean during the summer....and feel stupid that it took me this long to figure out.

Hang in there everyone.....

Ditto... I'll try this it makes sense to me.

Cognitive, just put the hot water and sea salt in a spray bottle and use it after you shower at nite and let it dry, leave on overnite and then wash off with plain water in am. Thats what I have done for the past 5 nites and it is starting to really help my skin. I break out on my neck and it seems thats the only thing to work for me so far.

Ohhh, that sounds simple, thanks. How much salt would you put into...say 22 oz?

My sprayer is only 12 ounces and I put at least half cup of sea salt in very, very hot water, and it should leave a little white on your skin where it has dried, also it should taste salty like the ocean.

Ok, well thanks for the response.

I was just wondering though, does anybody know of good places to find this stuff because I went to the local supermarket and all I found was sea salt in like small containers for like 4 bucks and I figure thats pretty expensive. What I could really use is like a large quantity for a good price

does it burn your nipples and make your pee burn? lol someone please answer i want to know before i try it tonight

Hmmm, I've never had this problem w/sea salt baths. But then, I've never had that problem from swimming in the ocean either. Maybe you're really sensitve to salt; or it's possible that something else in the ocean causes those reactions (maybe even sand stuck in your suit?) Just test out the bath one time, I guess you'll know immediately if you're going to have that reaction. If you do, then you could try the spray bottle method some others have mentioned and keep it targeted to where you need it and away from the sensitive areas.

I've been doing sea salt baths (from every day to every few days) for a bout a month, plus brush exfoliation in the shower 1x/day or every other day for nearly 2 months. I haven't been as successful as some on this board, but there is an improvement. I don't get anything cystic now, but I've had a couple of somewhat large zits on my back or shoulders, and several smaller ones. I think I'm getting less volume of breakouts now, but each one still always leaves a red mark, which still takes forever to fade away, at least in my impatient opinion.

Brush exfoliation, I must say, drastically improved the texture of my skin. The parts of my back that are not broken out are very smooth to the touch.

Does the Sea Salt have to have Iodine yes or no? thnx

hey i'm gonna do it on my face, right now i'm doing the jessfoliation and I have REALLY improved especially 2 red scars that have been there for months that havent gone away are now going away.

Anyways should I just drop the jessfoliation and do this or include this in it. I dont have acne per say but I do get occasional pimples that I dont want especially on the cheek area.

That's funny. I went fishing on sunday and got a lot of sea water on me. During the past couple days my skin has been shedding like crazy. If I gently rub it with a wet towel, all these skin easily exfoliates. Now I don't know if this is due to the sea water or the sun burn.

Has anyone had any results with using (dead) sea salt as a scrub while showering?

^^^ I live about five minutes from the beach, so what I did was fill an empty milk jug with ocean water, which I then poured into a small spray bottle. I've been spraying my face with the saltwater for the past three days or so, and I kinda like the simple, natural approach. It's too early to tell if it's working, but I'll update after a few weeks.

I haven't tried it yet actually. It's really hard, because night time seems to be the only time my skin actually absorbs anything, so i already have to alternate between tretinoin and triamcinolone every other night. I have no idea how I can fit this into my routine except to go to the beach much more...but our beach is a lake...so no salt...

Thanks RatherBeSurfing & others.

One poster wondered if a dead sea soap be beneficial, and is more practical.

Ingredients

Palm 80% , Palm Kernel Oil 20% , Dead Sea Salts , Magnesium , Sodium , Potassium , Deionized Water Aqua , Sodium Chloride , Fragrance

[Edited image out]

Maybe keep the soap on skin for few minutes then rinse.

I'll try this, but if any of you experts have an opinion please feel free to add.

*********************

Also, what if I wet my back and put sea salt directly on my skin?

I agree, but not all people live close to the beach and not all live in a country where you can go to the beach.
