I have suffered from bacne for over ten years now and happened across this thread as I was browsing the forums. I decided to use the ACV treatment. ACV is so cheap and it seems to simple so I figured why not? I have been only using it for a couple of days now. I bought a generic ACV at 5% acidity and put it in a spray bottle half ACV and half water. I use it in the AM before I shower and at night before bed. I think it is too soon to get any conclusive results, but I can say I am seeing a reduction in the redness of the blemishes on my back and am optimistic I will get some results! I will be back in a few days to update. :) Thanks so much to Mikka for posting this.

So all of the success stories led me to go out and by Rice Wine Vinegar and Tea Tree Oil.

I Purchased:

Roland Rice Wine Vinegar (Seasoned/Aged)

Hollywood Beauty Tea Tree Oil

If you guys have found better brands, please do share. I am up to try anything else.

Words of concern: Please DO NOT put SEASONED rice vinegar on your skin! Use PLAIN rice vinegar instead. Seasoned has all sorts of stuff you don't want on your skin. I hope it didn't hurt your skin when you tried it - did it turn out okay?

It actually turned out fine. I have some acne still around my back shoulder area but everything else is pretty clear. I do believe though that the main part of this regimen is the Tea Trea Oil though and therefor Seasoned/Plain ... same difference.

Phew! That's good to know. That's awesome that you're clearing! I still use diluted rice vinegar on my face as a toner to help unclog pores. Overall, my skin is a lot clearer, but I've also been making diet changes and I make sure not to touch my face.

I couldn't find any Japanese Rice Wine Vinegar anywhere. All I could find is Rice Vinegar, would it also work for this regimen? Or should I use Apple Cider Vinegar? Anyone care to share their progress with the ACV?

Hang in there!!

Hey guys! I've read through every post on this thread and I'm roaring to try this XD My bacne has been getting increasingly worse/better through time. It really fluctuates, and so this vinegar regimen seems like its a good shot, what with all the positive results ^^

I'm wondering about my face though.. is it a good idea to use straight vinegar on it, or should I dilute it 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar?

I have been using Rice Vinegar and Tea Tree Oil on my bacne for about a month now and I must say it has given me the best results! My back is mostly clear now, I only have scarring. I have been to the dermatologist, tried body washes and lotions and wipes... yet nothing has worked as well as this! I must say for the price it is well worth the try!

One side note - When I first tried this I was using Apple Cider Vinegar, however that left small red bumps on my back so I switched to Rice Vinegar and seemed to take care of the bumps.

Started today, 8 Table spoons vinegar, 2 Tablespoons Water. I think I can go straight vinegar though, it doesn't hurt/burn that much.

I'm back for an update. It has been almost a month since I started using the ACV on my back but I can tell you now, it is working!!! I was skeptical for a while, and the results did take longer than I expected, but my back is almost completely clear now! This is the best my back has looked in almost ten years. I am so excited! I can actually wear tank tops and dresses now this summer with out being paranoid. Thank you so much for posting this because it really worked! I'm going to continue using it until hopefully my bacne is ALL GONE!

I'm definitely going to give this a try.... it's almost bed time, so if we have vinegar, I'll try it now!

My boyfriend can help me apply it, though he's probably not going to be happy sleeping next to someone who smells like vinegar.

Yes! =) Dilute it a lot. At least 3 parts water, if not more. The face is much more sensitive than the back.

The rice vinegar says on the label that it is diluted to 4% acidity. Are you guys further diluting that?? Or is the vinegar you guys bought have 100% acidity??

I tried it without diluting it at all and it doesn't irritate me at all. But my skin is pretty oily so I am probably protected.

Yes, most of us are further diluting it. You probably won't find vinegar in dilutions greater than 4-5%. It would be caustic at really high concentrations.

You don't have to dilute it, but over time it might irritate your skin if you don't. If it's your face, you might want to be more gentle than your back, which has thicker skin and different oil production. You might not notice irritation at first. Acne skin is sensitive, so it's usually better to err on the weaker side, try it for a few days, and see if you get results. If it works for you, there's no reason to burn your skin with too much acid. The "acid mantle" on your skin likes a slightly acidic toner to balance out the cleansers and water that have a neutral, or more often, basic pH. But too much isn't good either.

From Google:

"Vinegar is a liquid produced from the fermentation of ethanol in a process that yields its key ingredient, acetic acid. The acetic acid concentration ranges typically from 4 to 8 percent by volume for table vinegar [1] (typically 5%) and higher concentrations for pickling (up to 18%) although in some countries the minimum strength may be less. Natural vinegars also contain smaller amounts of tartaric acid, citric acid, and other acids."

Ohkay so I've been using ACV for two days.. I've definitly seen an improvement on my scars and red marks.. My scars are not deep but barely indented and I can see that there gettibg lighter. I hope everyone tries this cause it really does work. I haven't tried it on my bacne but I've tried the gold bond powder and that has cleared my bacne so far. :)

So you're supposed to leave the vinegar on your skin for 10 min and then rinse off with just water or should I use a cleanser?

It has to be ACV or Rice Wine Vinegar, doesn't it?

We only have plain distilled vinegar.... >___<

Looks like I gotta make a trip to the store, lol.

Hi all,

Haven't been back here for a while since my acne cleared up and just wanted to recommend what I've been using. The tea tree oil/rice wine vinegar combo worked moderately well for me the first 3 weeks I used it, but after that my back acne stagnated in this annoying not awful but far from clear state. I was again ready to throw in the towel.

Enter Milk of Magnesia. My pharmacist heard about this at an "Alternatives to Accutane" discussion and suggested it to me. I highly recommend it!!!! I know this is a forum for vinegar, but if you're trying that I think you should at least give MoM a try first.

Here's why:

- cheap

- available at drug store or grocery (get the Original formula)

- doesn't bleach clothing

- absorbs excess oil all day (if you have face acne)

- smells nice, while vinegar smells kind of unpleasant

- soothes skin and reduces redness, whereas for me vinegar stung a bit and increased redness

- it worked a miracle for me and I've tried a lot of things - vinegar, BP, tea tree oil, oral medications, topical prescription meds... you name it. In fact, my doctor said we'd just about run out of things to try when I heard about MoM.

Hop over to the Milk of Magnesia thread if you want to give it a try.

This absolutely worked for me. Everyone MUST try it.

Tea tree oil can be found at Wal-Mart for about 8 bucks, apple cider vinegar at Wal Mart for about 50 cents. Right before you go to bed , rub tea tree oil on back or cleavage area where the acne is using the tips of your fingers and let dry for about 5 mins. (Smell is awful, but you get used to it). After 5 mins, it might still feel a little greasy, but that's fine...just make sure its not super wet. Next, using a cotton ball or toilet paper, apply the apple cider vinegar on the same spots. Leave it on for the night! I usually let it dry for about 15 mins before getting into my bed. The smell fades.

The bottle of tea tree oil lasts an extremely long time, so don't be afraid to buy the tiny bottle for 8 dollars, its worth it.

I've struggled with backne and cleavage acne all throughout high school, but now I'm rid of it. It works slowly but surely and in about 2 or 3 weeks (depending on the severity of the acne) it will be cleared up. When it's cleared up, obviously use it less (once or twice a weel)

*I have very sensitive skin and it was not too rough for it*

Try it. Right now. Go to the store right now and get the stuff.

Seriously.

Best of luck. :)

After reading this thread I decided to give the vinegar regimen a try. As it is cheap there is not much to loose other then a little bit of time. I started yesterday with a 1:1 mix of water and apple cider vinegar. I added a good dose of tea trea oil and apply it with a cotton pad on my (light to moderate) bacne in the morning after getting up and in the evening after shower. My skin seems to take it quite well and I think my back looks a bit better.

And here's a tip for the smell: essential oils. I just added some drops of (pure) rosemary to my mix and there is no vinegar scent whatsoever. I went for rosemary because it is quite strong (and it has to be to beat the vinegar) and it goes well with the tee trea oil.

Hi all,

I just had a quick question, if someone could help me with it that would be great. My face is clear and free of acne thanks to pro-active and possibly birth control. I still have a terrible case of bacne, however, and it is very frustrating/embarrassing. I mixed up a small bottle of mostly vinegar with a bit of tea tree oil and began the treatment yesterday, I'm hoping in two weeks I'll see the results most of you have! In the past I have been using pro-active's body wash and body lotion, both used for the treatment of body acne. I have had little to no results from those, so my question is whether I should continue to use the wash and/or the lotion while using the vinegar and tea tree oil...?

Do you think they might hinder the vinegar's results? Or the combination might provide better results? They might even be worsening the bacne, I just dont know. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys

Yea, that's a complicated one. Since we don't know about the possible side affects of mixing vinegar with benzol peroxide, the active ingredient in Proactive, the side affects could spell disaster.

BUT, if you stop using Proactiv on your bacne, be prepared for some flare ups since your back is used to being controlled by this anti-bacterial. Benzol peroxide is also an irritant, so your skin might be sensitive to the vinegar at first. I don't have personal experience from this, so i don't know.

I would vote for cutting out the Proactiv completely since it's not working for you, waiting a bit to let you skin calm down, and then using vinegar. Also, you might want to consider the temperature of your shower water - is it really hot? That can sometimes give people bacne (as well as other skin conditions).

Do you exercise and then not shower right after? I used to have chest and bacne when I was a dancer, because I would get all sweaty and then have to go to my next college class, so no time for showering. Now I don't have it anymore. You can also consider shampoo allergies, and other things.

Hope this helps! Anybody else have experience with this?

Ok so for the past four years I have suffered from back acne. I'm now 18, almost 19 and I think I finally FINALLY found what's clearing my back acne. I've tried benzoyl peroxide (works ok, but takes a long time to see results), gold bond, AHA, BHA, sea salt, baking soda, and plenty of prescription meds. So here it is...

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR!

I'm not joking people. I've been using it three days and already the zits on my back are drying out and going away and all the nasty red spots are quickly fading. I'm going to post again in a few weeks to show my results but so far I can say this is the best thing ever.

The first few times I used it hurt like HELL, but now it's pretty straight. So take my advice and try it. $3 for a month's supply of acne medication is definitely fine with me.

Cheers guys, hope this helps.

Oh and to the original poster on this thread...THANK YOU!

My experience with Vinegar and TTO

All I had was white distill vinegar, acidity 5%. So I used what I had. After a few days, I started clearing up but my back became really irritated.

So I added some water to my SPRAY BOTTLE which I recommend because it makes applying easier. I kept this up for a week or so see pretty good improvement, but nothing substantial.

A week later I was in a all natural store, and saw this cheap Tea Tree Oil anesthetic cream 5%.

I purchased it and then used it liberally after the vinegar dried or after I washed the vinegar off in the shower.

A week later I am no almost clear with some fading marks still visible. I would now be comfortable going to a swim party or the beach.

Thank god i read the original post.

Ps. do you think its better to use 100% TTO??

I've used 100% Tea Tree Oil in my face as a spot treatment, and it works at first to decrease inflammation because it acts as an anti-bacterial. But after a while, my skin in the treated areas started to get tough (almost numb) and scaly...didn't feel healthy. So now I only use it diluted, and less frequently.

Your back is more resilient than your face, but I'd say if the vinegar dilution with TTO is working, I would stick with that. My philosophy is it's best go with with the gentlest thing that actually works, rather than going strong and irritating your skin. Your skin can only handle so much, and what we're trying to do is build up to where your skin normalizes and starts to heal itself, and then we don't need acne treatments. At least that's what I'm rooting for, and it's progressively working. =)
